About Duncan Harvie

We are a young couple who live in central Scotland but our family is from the islands.

Duncan Harvie purchased this in 1991

Why Duncan Harvie chose Staffin

This cottage has been in our family since it was built over 100 years ago. It was passed to us in 1991 and we have been updating it ever since.

It is the favourite holiday location for us and our two children.

What makes this unique

The ideal place to get away from it all and relax. The only noises are the local farm animals and the waves breaking on the sea shore. On a clear night, the lack of light pollution rewards you with spectacular starry skies.

Authentic relaxing beautiful experience

  • 5 of 5

My family and I just adored this property.

From the lovely cosy interior to the extensive information provided in a handy folder to the well stocked kitchen.

We took our favourite board games and settled in for a relaxing time beside the fire.

We wanted a trip of family time and beautiful scenic outdoors and that is what we got.

Fantastic helpful owners gave us a very positive experience. We will defiantly be returning as soon as possible!

Needs upgrading.

  • 3 of 5

This is a nice enough cottage, but requires upgrading and a deep clean. No cleaning fluids, washing up liquid, clothes pegs etc. The clothes horse is no longer serviceable, the chimney needs cleaning and smokes horribly. The emersion heater keeps tripping. Although there is a bucket or two of coal; no fire lighters or matches. A DVD player, but no DVDs. If you choose this property, take a shed load of stuff with you, including a board for the Trivial Pursuit. A generous 3/5.

Loved it !

  • 5 of 5

30th September - 7th October. Warm and cosy croft, very welcoming after the long drive. Stunning views. Well equipped and in a lovely location for exploring Skye. It has an excellent fenced garden for the dogs. Given the time of year, we were very lucky with the weather even if a little blowy, we regularly saw seals on the beach and watched the ganets near Dunvegan. We recommend the fresh fish from Just Hooked in Portree,, The Oyster Hut near Talisker and Columba 1400 for good food and wifi!

Basic cottage but comfortable and well equipped

  • 4 of 5

Good value and well situated for a self catering holiday. We were just a couple though it sleeps five. Good views of the quinag and staffin bay. A week of mostly good weather made it a great base for local exploration and walks. Only negatives are it is a bit dark as garden is shaded by trees.. and it is up a fairly steep drive and garden path which could be a problem if you are unfit and have heavy luggage.

Charming and authentic croft, wonderful views

  • 4 of 5

My family and I loved our stay in this cottage. It was very authentic, also the surrounding.

The views to the Quriraing are impressive and from the little garden you have also a wonderful view to the sea. It is renovated but you still have an impression of how the crofts used to be in former times. Everything was fine. There is a wonderful walking way, that starts near the house and leads to the sea with spectacular views. On your way you can meet cows that walk there free, which my daughters found really nice. We also had a wonderful day walking the Quiraing, which is very close to the croft. It was breathtaking. We also went on the SkyeXplorer Boat Trip from Uig and saw a whale directly next to the boat. And very cute puffins.

My children missed the time we had at this house afterwards and would have liked to stay longer (so have I)
