Perfect for relaxing in tranquil surroundings, yet close to all amenities

Located in little Pueblo Jerez, this villa is very charming & offers peaceful & relaxing accommodation while being close to all amenities. Its gardens are full of colour & the birdsong is very enchanting. The villa has two large terraces/balconies and has garden to the front, side and rear. The large pool is surrounded by terrace for relaxation. The traditional town of Nerja, with its shops, restaurants & bars is about 20 minutes walk away and has several beaches, coves & spectacular cliffs. Nerja has retained much of its charm & is a popular destination for both Spanish and foreign tourists. The Almijara Mountains further inland can be seen clearly from the villa. Views towards the sea complete the panorama. The motorway behind Nerja provides easy access to Malaga, Granada and the ski resorts of the Sierra Nevada. The award-winning Moorish town of Frigiliana is a short drive into the mountains. The famous Nerja Caves are a 5 minute drive away.

About Jane Hearn

I am a holistic therapist and live on the south coast of England with my husband and cat, Molly. I love travelling, and have always had a soft spot for Spain, especially Nerja, which is my favourite holiday destination. I am very house-proud and meticulous, and enjoy home improvements, interior design and gardening. My other hobbies include Gym, swimming, walking, flamenco dancing and, of course, sun-bathing.

Why Jane Hearn chose Axarquia (Costa del Sol)

We have been visiting Nerja since about 1990. We first wanted to buy a place in Frigiliana, in the hills above Nerja, but soon realised that proximity to Nerja itself, & especially its beaches were paramount to us. There is a 'buzz' in Nerja that springs from the fact that it is a favoured location amongst the Spanish, as well as with foreign tourists. Its a traditional town, with very little high-rise, & there is a huge choice of restaurants & bars. We have a short list of favourites that serve excellent food at resonable prices. We spent years looking for our ideal villa; it had to tick all of our boxes. Here, in Pueblo Jerez, we found our dream home.

What makes this villa unique

The property is quiet, peaceful, away from busy traffic, and yet within walking distance to everything we need. We feel safe here. We get plenty of sun as well as a seasonal supply of oranges. We have small lawns and flower borders, and the place feels like home. It is light and airy, quite spacious, well equipped, and with interesting views. We like the fact that we can walk a hundred yards or so up the road to one of our favourite restaurants, and also the convenience of the well stocked supermarket, just two minutes walk away. Most of all we like the natural beauty of our surroundings: the flowers in the garden; the mountains behind us; the beautiful seascapes and the mix of cultures. We love to listen to the birds and watch the swallows as they fly like spitfires around the back garden.

Notes:
Notes on accommodation: The main door to the villa opens into the lounge/dining room. The kitchen is open-plan to this area and has good views through to the terrace and to the courtyard at the side. A staircase allows access to the 1st floor where there is a spacious landing, and 2 en-suite bedrooms. The décor is light and airey and both bedrooms have double-glazed sliding doors to terrace/balcony. One of the many attractive features of this property is the wealth of terraces, balconies & garden areas that allow the direction of sun to be enjoyed for virtually the entire day. The lower level terraces and the orange tree provide shade from the afternoon sun while still providing the benefits of outdoor living. The property is managed by a British agent living locally. Outside: The villa is located in a secure and very private, walled garden. The front gate opens into a garden with small lawn, hibiscus, rose and other flower and shrub borders and table & chairs. From this garden, there are steps down to the pool area with flower beds, small areas of lawn and an olive and orange tree the latter usually providing abundant fruit from November to February. The garden wall to the rear of the property backs onto the green valley that runs down towards the sea. There are also numerous pots containing geraniums, weeping fig, yucca and hibiscus. The pool terrace receives sun throughout the day until early evening (about 7pm in mid summer). Sun loungers and parasol are provided. There is an outside cold shower to refresh yourself & to use before entering the pool to help keep it crystal clear for your enjoyment. The villa, pool & gardens are for the sole use of our guests. Utility Room: Outside courtyard for clothes drying. Iron & ironing board in cupboard. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are provided (please bring your own beach/pool towels). Weekly linen change.

Outstanding Villa

The villa is immaculate, with everything you could possibly need. Exceptionally clean and with all mod cons. The pool area is fantastic, and the air con is first class. The villa is located within a quiet residential area, one minutes walk from a large supermarket, and with a few eating/drinking spots nearby. It's a 15 minute walk downhill to the beach, and 25 minutes walk down into the centre of Nerja. We would suggest taxis back from both, especially during August, as its hard work walking back during the hottest periods. The taxi from town to the villa was 7€. Overall we had a fantastic time. Nerja is a lovely traditional spanish town, and the villa is first class. We would have no hesitation recommending the villa to friends, and we will book it again in the future. One word of warning. The door lock is a Yale lock, and therefore it's very easy to lock the keys inside unless all of your party are aware of this! We did this on our first day, and after contacting the owners, Jane and Gareth, they resolved our mini-crisis within 30 minutes. They were both extremely helpful throughout the booking process, and quickly responded when we needed urgent assistance. Thank you to both of you.

Peaceful and perfect

Our first experience of a villa holiday and we found it perfect for our week long stay in June.

The villa was spotlessly clean and comfortable and felt more than spacious enough for the 4 of us.

There`s a very well equipped kitchen, and with a supermarket literally round the corner for all your fresh supplies (and a cheeky bottle or two of gin!), we prepared and enjoyed many lazy lunches out on the large terrace area.

The pool area is lovely and well maintained, with sun loungers, chairs and parasol, plus a magnificent orange tree providing a shaded area.

We`d hired a car for our stay and made trips to Frigiliana, Granada and the Alhambra and were able to park right outside the villa.

We found numerous restaurants withing walking distance and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Lovely villa, great location

We stayed here the first 2 weeks of July and really enjoyed our time in the villa. The space was great and it is definitely the best equipped villa we've stayed in. Loved the balconies which caught the sun most of the day and the pool was well used by all of us to cool down! Location great-huge supermarket across the road which made eating in a doddle and about a 10 minute walk down to Burriana beach where there are shops, bars and restaurants (would recommend the Burriana Steak House). The centre of Nerja itself is perhaps a 20/25 min stroll away. We enjoyed having the best of both worlds - peace in the villa but hustle and bustle when we wanted it. We didn't hire a car but it's an easy walk to the Nerja Caves and we also got a bus to the Aquavelis Water Park in Torre del Mar which our 8 year old (and us!) really enjoyed. All in all, would recommend this lovely villa as a great place to stay in Nerja.

Lovely villa for a holiday in the sun

Nice comfortable villa in a quiet part of town. The pool area is fantastic. Bit of a walk back from town but it's not too bad. Our only mistake was choosing Record Go car rental - it is cheaper than the others for a reason!

Fantastic

The Villa had everything we needed for a perfect holiday . Lovely and clean and it is well maintained.

Lovely views from the Balcony . In a quiet area. A short walk to Main town, but not far from bars and restaurants.

Great sized pool complete with sun beds and sunshade for chilling out.

Would definetly recommend for a families and for adults only.

Coast/Beach:

The Blue Flag Burriana Beach is 10-15 min walk via small streets with plenty to see on the way.

Burriana is the largest of Nerja's beaches & is backed by sandstone cliffs at its ends. Behind the central part of the beach are restaurants & bars, offering fish & paella just off the sand. The other beaches of Nerja to the west are smaller and are mostly edged by cliffs & are very picturesque. The 'balcon' of Nerja town juts into the sea & provides spectacular views of the coastline to the east.

Travel:

Malaga airport is approximately 1 hour drive from Nerja. Alternatively, a bus or train can be caught from the airport to Malaga bus station where there is a frequent bus service to Nerja and the caves. The total journey by public transport can take up to 2.5 hours, depending upon timings. A taxi from the airport to Nerja costs about 70E. Car hire is not essential though will allow you to explore the whitewashed towns nestling in the mountains immediately inland more easily.

Distances:

Nerja town with its famous 'Balcon de Europa' is approx 5 minutes drive or 20 minutes walk away.

Malaga town is approximately 45 minutes by car or 90 minutes by bus and has many attractions.

Granada and its Alhambra Palace is 1.5-2 hours drive while the coastal hill town of Salobrena with its ancient castle and museum is approx 1 hour drive.

The whitewashed award-winning mountain village of Frigiliana is approx 20 minutes by car or can be accessed by local bus service.

Further Details:

Nerja is located very close to Natural Parks with their established walks through lush valleys, gorges & rural scenery. There is a horse-riding centre west of Nerja with excursions to the Almijara mountains. Other pursuits include include hiking, caving, mountain biking, kayaking & canyoning. Scuba diving can be organised from Burriana Beach. The famous caves at Maro are among the most popular of Spain's natural attractions. There are facilities in Nerja that offer Spanish language & Flamenco dance classes & several bars provide live Spanish guitar music & dancing. Nerja town is 5 mins by car. There are restaurants & hotels within 3-5 minutes walk from the villa that provide evening entertainment for non-residents, including weekly flamenco shows. Tennis courts & paddle are about 5 minutes walk away. The nearest banks are in Nerja town & there are money-changing & cash-point facilities in the local hotels & at Burriana Beach. The nearest supermarket is about five minutes walk away. WiFi is available at the hotel on the main road 3 minutes walk away & there are several sports bars within walking distance. There are weekly markets & car boot sales (Tuesdays & Sundays respectively) & a public swimming pool close to the supermarket, again within walking distance. Day trips can be organised to Malaga, Marbella, Gibraltar, Ronda, Sevilla, Cordoba, Granada, Almeria & the Alpujarras. There is an aquapark at Torre del Mar, just along the coast to the west, & the coves to the east of Maro accessed via the old road offer secluded beaches. There is also plenty of local historical interest, including the now disused sugar factory & the Roman aquaduct between Nerja & Maro. The picturesque 17C church of El Salvador located in the square off the Balcon is popular for weddings, for both Spanish &, more recently, foreign couples.

For animal-lovers the Nerja Donkey Sanctuary is on the western side of the town, housing not just donkeys, and has an entrance fee of a bag of carrots.
