We are a working Organic Farm in a stunning location deep in the Avon Valley near Kingsbridge. There are lovely walks through the valley and there is the River Avon to enjoy a barbecue by our little beach, paddle, or watch the trout rise. The houses are set comfortably apart, and are set in 80 acres of lush unspoilt pasture and ancient woodland, with 1/2 mile of the river Avon running through it. A key feature of our location is that you can stay at home in the rural idyll described above, or use it as a base for you to explore the beautiful beaches, scenery and picturesque towns of the South Hams. For those wanting benefits of city life, Exeter and Plymouth are both within 45 minutes easy drive. The wilds of Dartmoor are a mere twenty minutes by car.

A17th century south facing Farmhouse, hung with wisteria and jasmine, has its own private enclosed garden with summerhouse and an outside eating area, with barbecue .Level grassy area, also enclosed, is accessed from this garden. Lovely views over the valley and hills beyond. It is attached to,but very private from, the small annexe in which the friendly owners live (own access). Spacious dining room with oak table seating ten, Georgian dresser and sofa. A cozy living room with huge original fireplace with wood burning stove. There is a 32" flat screen TV with Sky and DVD player. Well appointed kitchen with TV and bespoke built-in units. Utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer, through to a small bathroom (hip bath, shower, WC and basin). Also on ground floor, a single bedroom 3'6" antique bed. Upstairs (stairgate) there is a master bedroom with en suite bathroom and TV. A second double + TV, curtained doorway to small twin room (3ft beds). Plus twin rm, and family bathroom.

About the Owner

We have been very privileged to have lived in this beautiful Devon river valley for about 25 years. We have managed to raise 5 daughters in this time without contemplating serious self harm- which we consider quite an achievement! Crannacombe is the home of a long established herd of South Devon cows and their calves. We also established Heron Valley organic Cider and Apple Juices on the farm to utilize the apple orchards here. We are lucky that all our girls share our love of this area- so much so that they have remained either in this valley or very close by. We love this location, we are within easy reach of myriad stunning and unspoiled beaches, beautiful country and coastal walks and interesting towns and pretty villages, e.g. Salcombe, Dartmouth, Totnes and Hope Cove.

Tranquil and Relaxing Yet close to sightseeing

Have made a home from home for anyone who chooses to stay in this beautiful 17th century property. It has all the amenities and comforts you would wish to have for a relaxing stay.Rustic and very clean. Beautiful views into the vale and further from within the property and the garden alike. The farm produces organic fruit juices and Cider which can be purchased direct from them. It is within a short distance of many locations and attractions. Supermarkets and farm shops are close by. There is also a Chilli farm producing many lovely products at the end of the lane which is worth a visit.......... We had a great time.. :-) Thank you Shirley & Steve for being so welcoming and friendly.

They mentioned us and the chilli farm as food producers , indeed there are many other artisan food producers in the South Hams and especially near here, so it is also a very good location for foodies to take a holiday!

Lovely Christmas House

We had a lovely time at Crannacombe Farm hosting family and friends for two weeks over Christmas and New Year. Shirley & Steve were great hosts and super-welcoming and we arrived to find fresh flowers and a ready decorated Xmas tree, as well as lots of help with ideas for places to go, local caterers etc. The house is stylish, warm, cosy and characterful and we enjoyed the lovely dining room with huge long table - perfect for all our guests - and the cosy sitting room with an uber-efficient new wood burning stove. We had small children and grannies and even a dog with us at one point, and was fine for all. The valley is just magical - a very special place - and it was great to be able to walk from the house - quick walks to get some air - and longer jaunts. There's a great walk along the river to the Avon Mill Garden center which has a nice cafe - perfect for a walk then lunch and walk home again. I'm sure it's lovely in the summer-time here, but it was magical being there even in the midst of a wet and cold winter. The beach is only a short drive away too. We love Devon in the winter time - although you need to bring your wellies! Thank you Shirley & Steve for all your help.

The valley is indeed pretty special, the farmhouse is in a quiet, very unspoilt, situation, good for walking, but also easily accessible for trips to the stunning local coastline, unspoilt rolling countryside but also central to all the main well known Towns in the beautiful South Hams. It is lovely to hear all your group had such a good time in not that good weather!

Crannacoombe Farm House

We would like to say a big Thank You to Steve & Shirley Bradley for renting out their Beautiful farm house to our family, it was perfect for all of us including my Husbands 97 year old Grandma. The farmhouse was in an idillic location & not too far from lovely beaches & not far from the local amenities. We felt very welcomed from the moment we arrived to the day we left Thank You so much for a wonderful stay, we would definitely reccomend you to friends & family in the future!

Great farmhouse

We had a very warm welcome and helpful walk through the property and it's facilities. We quickly settled in and walked down to the River Avon through three fields, still a little wet after two very wet months. The good weather during our stay enabled us to go down with our grandchildren each day. All 9 of us made good use of the accommodation. It was very clean and well maintained, both inside and out. We made good use of our time, visiting Bigbury on Sea with Burgh Island and Salcombe and Kingsbridge, eating out but also cooking and eating at the farmhouse. An ideal break for a family get together.

Beautiful setting

We only used the farm house for two nights but found the inside beautifully decorated and exceptionally furnished. The bedrooms and sitting room were well laid out and there was even milk,towels and shortbread provided !

The views were stunning / just a shame that the south Devon chilli farm was closed on this occasion

Location

From the Owner

We stumbled across this farm, in a hidden valley, on a hot summers day while delivering cider to customers in Salcombe. It was empty for two years having been part of a country estate which seemed from another era. We wandered down through the meadows and sat on the river bank watching the fish jump in the dappled sunlight and thought what a beautiful and unspoiled place to live. Years later it is still the same but we have now appreciated that we also have a perfect peaceful base for enjoying the area but also on a rainy day in winter when the beach doesn't beckon we are 35-40 minutes drive of civilization in Exeter, Plymouth or Torquay or our local towns of Kingsbridge Totnes, Dartmouth and Salcombe. Great places to eat out, an abundance of local food producers, a foodie heaven!

Coast/Beach:

Bigbury, Bantham and Thurlestone are within 9 mile radius with the beaches of Salcombe within 11 miles. Our property is approx. 5miles from the sea at Kingsbridge and Bantham.

Travel:

The nearest airport is Exeter 25 miles away or Bristol airport approx. 100 miles away. Car hire is essential to enjoy the area here as public transport is limited.

Distances:

Loddiswell is 2 miles from here, Kingsbridge 5, Salcombe 11 miles and Dartmouth 9 miles.

Further Details:

Banks, restaurants, supermarkets etc in Kingsbridge 5 miles away, approx. 10 minutes drive. Many beautiful gardens, some subtropical, and National Trust houses to visit. Sharpham Vineyard in the Dark Valley, National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth, Woodlands Leisure Park and Pennywell Farm for the children. Riverford Farm Shop and Farm restaurant for organic food and farm visit.

Changeover day is Saturday, unless by prior agreement. We can be flexible in low and mid season. Email or phone us to discuss your requirements Arrivals not before 3pm, departures by 10am. Short breaks in low season may be more flexible with regards to changeover days and times.

Notes on prices:
Short breaks and possible reductions for significantly reduced occupancy will be considered out of high season. Please note our minimum charge applicable for the rental of this property in the paragraph above.

Staying at Crannacombe gives you an ideal base for exploring all the lovely river valleys, beaches and the stunning unspoilt landscape of the beautiful South Hams. But you can also remain here, lazing by the river, wandering round the farmland or visiting the cider company and the South Devon Chilli Farm that are in our little lane. There are footpaths by which you can stroll down the valley through ancient woodlands. If you want to go further afield we are a modest drive from the lovely South Devon Coastal Path, also from the wild landscape of Dartmoor. You can learn to surf at Bantham, sail at Salcombe or take one of the many sea fishing trips offered locally.There are some beautiful National Trust gardens and houses which are within 30 minutes drive, eg; Overbecks & Collaton Fishacre.
