About the property

Lodge Nr. Greystoke / Penrith, Lake District, Cumbria, England - Perfect For Walking, Cycling Or Just Relaxing! Nr Greystoke A Picture Perfect Lakeland Village

Dukes Meadow is located midway between Keswick and Penrith and within a short drive of Lake Ullswater. The lodge is located on the edge of Greystoke Forest, with views looking towards Blencathra and the Northern Fells of the Lake District National Park. It is in one of the quietest and least known areas in the Lake District, somehow Cumbrians have successfully kept this area very much to themselves and jealously protect its peace and tranquility. This beautiful area is best described as being quiet, unspoilt and un-commercialized yet is very accessible from the motorway system, the M6 (Junctions 40 and 41) are 15 and 10 minutes drive away respectively. This makes 29 Dukes Meadow ideally located to explore not only the Lake District but the superb countryside of the Eden Valley, Northern Pennines, Hadrians Wall and the Scottish Borders.

Didn't want to leave :)

The lodge is very cosy, well equipped, clean. We only stayed there for 3 nights and the weather wasn't very nice, but we enjoyed it a lot.

I could just stay there for good. Will definitely recommend the lodge and Lake District in general - it's just stunning!!!!

Great weekend

  • 5 of 5

The lodge was perfect, had everything we needed as a family of 5, including the little things that I forgot to take such as tin foil. We all really enjoyed ourselves - it is the ideal winter retreat and we will be back.

Lovely lodge in perfect striking distance for the Lakes

  • 5 of 5

4 of us (Mum, Dad + 2 daughters aged 10 and 7) stayed 3 nights in this lodge in October. It was very spacious and had all the domestic appliances and equipment that we needed. It was also warm and cosy - which was very necessary after some bracing days in the Lakes!

The 15-20 mins drive to get to Keswick was no bother and, actually, added to the anticipation of each day out as we drove through the beautiful scenery. Obviously there was loads to do in the Lake District and we were out and about all day, everyday - the girls had a whale of a time and didn't want to leave our lodge behind when we left!

Dukes Meadow itself is quite isolated so we only used the lodge for eating and sleeping - you need to get out early and come home late because there are no outdoor activities or amenities anywhere nearby. The lodge does, however, have a range of books, games and DVDs in case you are stuck indoors for any period of time.

Overall, it was the perfect lodge in the perfect location for a perfect half-term break!!

Perfect weekend retreat

  • 5 of 5

The lodge was so well equipped with everything you could possibly think of. My daughters especially liked to have a tv in their bedrooms. It is in a very quiet location that was a little hard to find as it was getting dark but when we arrived we felt very welcome as the fire was made up ready to be lit and there was milk in the fridge. We used the lodge as a base to visit Ullswater and Whinlatter forest and Keswick.

we enjoyed our stay. the location was peaceful and in a good location for exploring the lake district. The lodge was spacious and light. It was well equipped clean and comfortable. with complimentary tea coffee milk biscuits and wine provided. We enjoyed the afternoon sun and sunsets on the decking area at the back. We used the open air pool at Greystokes village and had a good meal at the 'boot and shoe' village pub.

About Joyce Ford

My wife and I are retired and live in the north east of England.

Joyce Ford purchased this cottage in 2002

Why Joyce Ford chose Penrith

29 Dukes Meadow has been owned and loved by our family for 12 years. We have enjoyed the beauty, tranquility and adventure of this beautiful lodge in this stunning area.

What makes this cottage unique

From the classic Lakeland village down the road, beautiful walks and bike rides right out of the door and amazing sunsets viewed from the dining table; my wife and I, our children and now grandchildren have made many wonderful memories of visits to "the lake district house" and we invite you to do the same!

Guestbook comments from the manager

"The place is amazing - absolutely beautiful and so well placed for visits all around. Absolutely delighted with the accommodation."

"We found this property to be very clean and well equipped. We loved the fact that it was peaceful and had good gardens for the children to play out in the sunshine. It is a great location for exploring the lake district. We have stayed here before and will definitely be coming again."

"I recently stayed here with a group of friends (all teachers) who needed a quiet getaway. The log cabin itself is ideally situated 20 mins from Penrith and Keswick, it is also really close to Lake Ullswater which is well worth a visit! It is situated in a quiet area which is perfect for those who want a relaxing time. The log fire is perfect for an autumn evening and makes the cabin feel homely whilst you are there. Thankyou for a lovely holiday I will be back!"
