Elm cottage - Perfection!

  • 5 of 5

Wow! What a find this cottage was!!!

My husband and I were blessed with a very rare weekend away from the children and wanted a relaxed getaway - what we found was a little piece of heaven......

We arrived Friday afternoon and were greeted by a very smiley and helpful Carol who even offered us a lift to our wine tasting at nearby Tinwood, we politely declined as the weather was beautiful and we fancied a walk to explore the nearby area. What a walk it turned out to be, it took us about 45 minutes but it was a nice picturesque walk and meant we could familiarise ourselves with the local area.

Upon our return we ended up spending a very enjoyable evening with our hosts, definitely one of the highlights of our weekend!!!

Carol and Jasper really are hosts with the most! Always on hand for anything you may need and incredibly helpful but you don't ever feel that they are encroaching on you (probably just us on them haha).

One of the things we loved about this cottage was it's location, the whole area is beautiful, and our weekend was helped by glorious sunshine so we felt like we were abroad.

On Saturday we chose to drive a short distance to the stunning West Wittering beach and from there we walked to East Wittering for a wonderful selection of butchers, greengrocers and fish mongers. We headed back 'home' and cooked dinner on the fantastic BBQ in the cottage garden with coals provided. As it was getting late we decided to eat at the picnic table which is just the other side of the back garden gate as it gets the evening sun - very idyllic!

That evening we took a short stroll to nearby Goodwood House for a few drinks at the bar. It's an added bonus that this cottage has a great bar and restaurant within a short walking distance.

We enjoyed a lazy Sunday morning before check out with no rush from our hosts which was lovely and made the whole experience even better, if that's possible.

The cottage itself is equipped with everything you could possibly need, the decor is extremely homely and pretty, everything was spotlessly clean, a wonderful hamper was there on our arrival which included a small bottle of wine, fresh bread, homemade biscuits etc, the bathroom is stocked with bath towlels, beach towels, dog towels, toiletries etc - literally everything has been thought of! The bed was extremely comfortable and the shower was wonderful - two things that are so key to a fantastic stay yet so scarcely found these days!

Pretty, cosy, dog friendly, owners lovely

  • 5 of 5

Arrived to find a welcome pack and added touches that were really lovely such as chocolates and toiletries. We wanted to stay in the area for a wedding and decided to make a holiday of it. The owners looked after our dog while we were at the wedding and this helped us so much to enjoy the day. The garden is private and pretty and secure for the dog. The cottage is small but pretty and everything there you need and very comfortable. The location was excellent and we wished we had more time as we could have seen so much more. West Wittering beach is not too far and Chichester is lovely. We also explore Emsworth and Porstmouth as both close by. Perfect 6 nights and would love to come here again and recommend it.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your lovely review of Elm Cottage. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay and found the cottage to be a relaxing retreat from the almost inevitable traffic chaos that occurs over a sunny Bank Holiday weekend! We would love to welcome you both back sometime soon. Best wishes Carol & Jasper
