About the property

Cottages in Thwaite, upper Swaledale, Yorkshire Dales, England - Beautifully decorated and spacious houses in spectacular scenery

Joiner' s Cottage is a fabulous 18th century cottage set in the tiny, pretty village of Thwaite, in upper Swaledale, Joiner's Cottage is a high-quality haven from the cares of your workaday life. Originally the joiner's shop, the cottage is a spacious, lovely home with character touches such as old beams and a stone fireplace. New windows and doors to the revamped south-facing terrace (now enclosed), multi-fuel stove and contemporary furnishings make the cottage welcoming and snug (all coal included). Fresh decor, a lovely kitchen with high-quality granite surfaces and luxury bath/shower rooms complete the feeling of a home from home.

The living room has comfortable leather sofas, where you can relax in front of the multi-fuel stove, and the dining kitchen is well-equipped. The three bedrooms are upstairs, a double and two twins, along with the family bathroom, with a shower over the bath. Downstairs is a utility/shower room, with a large shower, washing machinen and tumble dryer.

Marvellous views from the living room and suntrap (enclosed) terrace look to the wonderful hills nearby. Sit and relax to the soothing murmur of Stockdale Beck after exploring one of the many walks from the door including the Coast to Coast and Pennine Way walks. As Wainwright said, "...the promised land of Swaledale, the foot of our personal rainbow, journey's end." Sorry, no smoking. Sleeps 6 . Pet-friendly! Free Wifi! Joine'rs Cottage bookings run from Friday to Friday.

A 2 person discount (one bedroom) of 10% is available on week bookings (sorry, not during peak periods) and short breaks are available (2 nts are £15 less than 3 nt price).

.Stockdale Cottage is a charming cottage in pretty Thwaite and makes a good base for exploring exquisite Swaledale. Perfect for families, Stockdale Cottage has two living rooms, each with TV and an open fire, thus avoiding arguments (all coal included)! A spacious dining kitchen and three roomy bedrooms complete the picture of a comfortable family home. The master bedroom is a roomy kingsize bedroom, and there is another twin bedroom at the front, and a cosy double bedroom at the rear. The bathroom has a bath and separate shower, and is very spacious. The cottage has electric storage heaters, as well as the open fires.

Lovely views of Kisdon to the rear and the old chapel to the front remind you of Swaledale's unique beauty and character. About Judith Dower

Joiner's Cottage belonged to my parents and was originally the joiner's shop. I inherited the cottage and have updated it over the years, to make it a comfy and homely cottage, perfect for Dales holidays.

Judith Dower purchased this cottage in 1949

Why Judith Dower chose Muker

There are many walks direct from the door, all amid the stunning landscape of Swaledale. The only crowds you'll find here are flocks of sheep and a few cows! Breathe in the invigorating air and admire the wonderful meadow flowers and stone barns and walls. Explore the single-track roads with amazing views overlooking the dale and relax with a pint of locally-brewed real ale at one of the cosy nearby pubs.

"Very nice cottage and well-equipped. Everything you need for a holiday in this part of the country. Sorry to leave, lovely open fires."

"How fabulous, our 2nd visit, the first being nearly 20 years ago. Exactly as we remembered - charming, kitchen bigger, though! We will be back - not in 19 years next time, but next year, we hope. Thank-you so much, we love it!!"

"Lovely cottage in stunning location. Good walks, canny pubs, weather!!"
