Villa Leonardo is a located on the outskirts of Bucchianico overlooking the Alento valley. The villa consists of 3 apartments 2 of which are available to rent individually or together. Both apartments have been elegantly finished, have private balconies & share a terrace & secluded courtyard. The courtyard, provides guests with a large plunge pool, sun-loungers, tables, chairs & BBQ.The villa is situated in an acre of olive grove, also accessible to guests. The English/Italian speaking owners are on hand to provide assistance, guidance and local knowledge when needed. Every window has a different beautiful view of the valley/mountains. The balconies are ideal for breakfast & the terrace & courtyard are perfect for evening meals, drinks and relaxing. Hammocks in the olive grove are the perfect spot from which to watch the sun set. The typical Italian town of Bucchianico has an extensive calendar of festas and events throughout the year.

Fantastic property

Joe and Frankie were great hosts, right from our initial enquiry, through booking, on arrival and throughout our stay. Supplies of fresh fruit and veg from their own garden were a particular treat. The property is incredibly clean and well equipped.

The splash pool too was great with amazing views out across the countryside.

Villa Leonardo/La Majella apartment is a stunning property in a great location for tranquility and views.

The town of Bucchianico is quiet and non-touristy, with frequent festivals and fairly quiet at other times. There are several good restaurants to choose from, although being a good 30-40 min uphill walk, a car is preferable.

The car is also essential for getting around as public transport is minimal. The nearest beaches are around 30 mins away, with a similar drive required for the nearest mountain day out. A good road map and satnav are required as the Italian signposting is not great. The roads were not busy in August, but finding our way around did provide a challenge at times.

An ideal location for those who want to escape the tourist trail and develop their Italian language skills.

Great location. Great hosts

We stayed here last year. Lovely apartment with balcony views across olive grove to mountains. Great hosts providing us with their produce- fresh melon, sun warmed tomatoes. They organised a BBQ one evening by the pool. Lovely location near three national parks. We enjoyed exploring tiny mountain villages and swimming in lake Largo. You need a car but the roads were almost empty. Fantastic holiday

Something for everyone!

I arrived for a long weekend with my sister, with us both very much looking forward to eating lots of fresh food and drinking lots of coffee! Frankie and Joe were extremely welcoming and were even kind enough to give us a few ideas of which towns to visit and where to go and eat. From pizza, pasta and salad to cheese, meats and wine, everywhere we went we weren't disappointed, especially with the local cost - no inflated tourist costs - it was great. There was a medieval festival on nearby whilst we stayed and it was such a treat. Great shows and costumes as well as medieval food! Great fun for adults and children. Nothing was too much trouble for either of them and we were lucky enough to be able to taste some of the home-grown fruits from their garden - the cherries were absolutely amazing!

The apartment itself had all the utilities required, was incredibly clean and the decor was beautiful. I wasn't brave enough to sample the pool but my sister thoroughly enjoyed it - again - so clean.

Be sure to visit the local towns and take in the beautiful surroundings of where you are, there is so much to see and do. Thoroughly recommended - we've even booked our winter trip for the skiing!

Excellent value in great location

We first stayed with Frankie and Joe soon after they opened and have been back every year since. The apartments are spotlessly clean, comfortably furnished, very well equipped and with stupendous views of the countryside. The lovely little town with bars and some very good restaurants is close enough to walk and the sea is only 20 minutes away by car. You couldn't ask for a better location and Frankie and Joe make you feel so welcome and we hope to return once again this year.

The location of the property was also a deciding factor: walking distance to a town but also in the country, hilltop location with stunning views, close to transport links and larger cities whilst maintaining a small town feel and charm. The property is a short 20 minute drive to the beach and sits near the boundaries of The Majella National Park.

The town of Bucchianico is a mere 800 metre walk away. The historic town of Chieti is only a 10min drive away. The vibrant city of Pescara is 25km away. Many other mountain villages are easily accessible

Further Details:

The local area has many towns and villages yearning to be explored. The summer months overflow with a different festa every night. The local cuisine is excellent and the town itself has many restaurants serving traditional Abruzzese fare waiting to be sampled.

Villa Leonardo is in a perfect location, close to Pescara Airport and transport links to Rome. It is easy walking distance to town for shops, cafes and restaurants however it enjoys the tranquility and ambience of being in a rural location. The best thing about the area is that there is something for everyone all year round. The national parks provide choices all year for hiking, biking, sight-seeing, snow sports, history, wildlife watching, local crafts, and picnics.

  • Notes on accommodation: Both apartments are non-smoking inside. Access to washing machine, iron & ironing board on request. To ensure availability, families with young children should notify owners in advance should they require a high chair or cot. Ample car parking within the villa grounds. Open all year round. This area is popular at all times of the year: summer on the beach, winter on the ski slopes and at any time there are many opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, biking and climbing. Outside: All balconies have 'bistro' table and chairs. The sun terrace has partial shading for non sun-bathers. Sun terrace has dining table, chairs and sun loungers. Hammocks located in olive grove. Private courtyard on the grounds of Villa Leonardo has an ample plunge pool, sun loungers, dining area and BBQ. The courtyard area provides a perfectly secluded area whilst allowing stunning views of the nearby Majella mountains. Plunge pool is open from the end of May until the end of September, weather permitting.
