Barn Owl Cottage could not have been more perfect. We traveled to England from the US to visit with family and friends. We have 2 primary age children and wanted a comfortable, peaceful cottage with room for the kids to play. That is exactly what we got. The cottage itself is beautiful, fresh and new. The upstairs layout with 2 bedrooms on the same level with a bathroom in between was perfect for our family. Downstairs we had loads of room and enjoyed having a fully equipped kitchen for light meals. Helen and Martin were the most gracious of hosts. Although we had complete privacy, we also enjoyed getting to know Helen, Martin and Fly :) We look forward to staying here again when we return to England next. You couldn't pick a better cottage to stay in. Fresh, clean, spacious, in a beautiful private location, with the best hosts! Thank you for sharing your space with us, Helen and Martin! We truly enjoyed our visit, meeting you both and staying at Barn Owl Cottage.

Wonderfully peaceful, idyllic Devon cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay in this stunning Devon cottage. You couldn't ask for more from the location! It was a real pleasure to meet the owners who were there to meet us on arrival and were so helpful getting us settled in. The cottage has everything you could need and is absolutely beautiful, we slept so well! We loved seeing the ducks, chickens and horses every day.

I really hope we will be back in the not too distant future.

Delightful and idyllic retreat

  • 5 of 5

We had the loveliest time staying at the Old Orchard cottage. The cottage itself is beautifully presented, spacious and full of character and charm. There's heaps of space both inside and out, and we made most of the Devon sunshine and the barbecue by eating out on the patio most evenings whilst watching the ponies in the field, and the other animals going about their business. The girls loved the ducks and the hens and Michael very kindly allowed them to help with feeding, which they really enjoyed. There is so much to do immediately around the farm - we loved the meadow behind the farm, as well as the walk up through the woods. Colyton, with all of it's amenities is very nearby, and yet the setting is such that you very much feel as if you're truly away from it all in the heart of the countryside. The cottage was a fabulous base for excursions to the beaches and coastal villages and towns, as well as Dartmoor. We would have loved to have stayed longer and will definitely be returning!

Peaceful, Idyllic holiday retreat

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was beautiful just as the website and review said it would be, a wonderful quiet setting where you can enjoy life.. Its location was also great for easy access to the coast where Sue and myself did a lot of walking as did our dog (Reece) He loved it either being at the cottage or out walking the coast line in a wonderful part of the country.

We would definately go back just because there is more to see and its a wonderful place to stay. Thank you Michael we all enjoyed our stay at the cottage.

Peaceful, beautiful, warm and welcoming

  • 5 of 5

My sister and I were searching for a peaceful spot to take our 70-year old mother to, after a tiring year. We also had my three-year old too, so we needed a serene retreat with kid-friendly entertainment. Michael and Fiona's orchard cottage was perfect for our stay. It is even more spacious than the pictures suggest, and the layout allows for family members to nap or rest, while others play. Also the outdoor access to the patio, meadow and garden gives kids plenty to explore and to look at. We found that four nights were not enough as so many beaches, points of interest and good restaurants are within reach. We'll come back again and stay for two weeks if we can. Lastly, for anyone with reduced mobility, this is a good spot, as all of the ground floor (including master bedroom and bathroom) is wheelchair accessible. Thanks Fiona and Michael for being such responsive, informative hosts and for giving us such a friendly welcome.
