Nestled privately in a lovely valley, LE ROCHER is surrounded by the beautiful Normandy countryside but is still only half a kilometre from the tiny village of Yvrandes and five minutes by car from the fascinating mediaeval small town of Tinchebray. Le Rocher is a Norman farmhouse (termed a longère) built a little over 160 years ago. It retains all the features of it’s construction but we have renovated it entirely to provide a guest house of great character with all the modern features you may wish for!
We have two double bedrooms, both provided with superior en-suite facilities. Each room is decorated and furnished to a high standard. Quality linen and towels are, of course, provided for our guests and tea and coffee-making facilities are available in each room. Our guests have a stunning living room and dining room entirely for their own use and breakfast is served in the dining room. You can also sample Linda’s fabulous evening meals there with delicious food prepared from local produce if you so require. The entrance door is also entirely for the use of our guests so you have private access to your rooms etc..
Le Rocher sits in approximately three acres of ground, all landscaped beautifully with grass, beds and, in the season, hanging baskets and planters galore. This reflects our earlier life as plant nursery proprietors! Our guests have free access to all of our land and you would be welcome to sunbathe, perhaps while taking an apperitif which, being fully licenced, we can properly supply! If it’s too warm, use the shade parasol at the outside table (where you can take breakfast if the weather suits) or even better, sit under one of our lovely trees. Whether your requirements are a centre for exploring Normandy or a tranquil break from the stress of your life, Le Rocher is perfect.
Having been professional horticulturists in Scotland for many years, Normandy, with its kinder climate, seemed a good idea. We found our beautiful house and moved here nine years ago, giving ourselves one year to renovate the house and learn French. Nine years later, the house is just about how we want it but the French still raises eyebrows from time to time! With our guests taking priority, there is much to do in the house but we both still manage to find time for the garden and other on-going projects. We were both a little wary of starting a whole new business here but we have never regretted it. Without exception, our guests have all been really nice people and a positive delight to welcome into our home. This little corner of France is such a pleasure to be in that I'm sure we infect our guests with our own enthusiasm. We thoroughly enjoy the company of our guests, both British and French (and Austrian, Australian, Swiss, Italian, Chinese and Japanese!) and we are happy to say they seemed to be reluctant to leave!
Linda Keating purchased this farmhouse in 2007
Le Rocher was the first property we looked at and, after searching for a while, inevitably we came back and bought it. Though the building needed substantial work, the kind and warm feel to the house and lands couldn’t be ignored and the potential charm was irrisistable. Situated at the end of a quiet lane (leading only to our property) half a mile from the village, we are tranquil without being isolated. We decided we had to have easy access to ferry ports and airports. With Caen an hour away and Dinard and Rennes airports well under two hours, Le Rocher fits the bill.
Le Rocher is an ideal base for exploring our wonderful region. We are centrally situated in the area which means all the various attractions of Normandy are perfectly accessible. If you love to wander the countryside, there are innumerable signposted cycle and footpaths within easy reach, some starting almost on our doorstep. For those in need of relaxation, the ambiance of Le Rocher is second to none and we will do all in our power to make your stay exactly what you want it to be. We are delighted to share our expertise in plants with those of our guests who have a similar interest.
Fantastic house in a fantastic setting with wonderful hosts. We would certainly recommend you

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with you two in this oasis of calm and serenity. I only wish we could stay for longer and soak in some of the peacefulness before heading back to work. Thank you for a lovely meal and your hospitality. We think you've got it just right.

This is the best B & B we have ever stayed in! The property is old but internally is beautifully equipped, it also has delightful gardens. Linda and Alastair are exceptionally good hosts, attending to - and anticipating - the needs of tourists. The bed was comfortable and the en-suite facilities are good. The breakfast provided was excellent. As the heading says, the property is secluded, well away from the nearest town which means you cannot walk to a nearby restaurant for example. However Linda can provide a very good evening meal given notice in the morning, and they are both fine dinner companions. It is worth pointing out that the Sat Nav in my car wanted to take us to another place also called Le Rocher a few miles away but the instructions provided on the website took us straight to Linda and Alastair without any problem. Be sure to have these instructions with you.
We would recommend this B&B to anyone looking for a quiet and comfortable stopover. We were using the Ouistreham/Caen ferry and this is less than an hour and half away. We would certainly go again!
Even before we set off for France, Alistair the owner had called us to gather information on what he and Linda could provide for our two sons, aged 5 and 1.
Upon our arrival after a long drive from further south we were greeted with the sight of the secluded farmhouse of Le Rocher, and then by Alistair and Linda themselves with a cup of tea ready for us. Our boys immediately set about exploring the beautiful gardens while we relaxed and got to know our hosts.
There followed an evening of settling in to our spotless, superbly appointed rooms, enjoying our exclusive access to the sitting room (with very useful UK FreeSat TV to entertain the youngsters), a bespoke children's meal wolfed down by the boys and finally sitting down to a marvellous adults-only home-cooked dinner with Alistair and LInda.
Using the farmhouse as a base for the next 3 days, we were happy to try out our hosts' recommendations for activities, each of which was perfect. We'd especially recommend Le Village Enchanté in Bellefontaine in good weather for a children's activity. There is also plenty to do around Flers.
Each evening we chose to eat in, partly for simplicity, as Linda was happy to cook the boys' meal to our schedule. but mainly because we couldn't imagine eating so well elsewhere! On top of that, Alistair and Linda were great company.
We can't praise Le Rocher highly enough, if that wasn't already obvious. For a great base to enjoy Normandy and a relaxing place to come back to each evening, we would recommend this to any type of traveller.
You could not find a more peaceful rural retreat than Le Rocher. The accommodation is first class: beautifully decorated, clean, comfortable and with all the facilities you could wish for. A real home from home. The owners; Linda and Alastair could not have been more welcoming and hospitable sharing a cup of tea with us on our arrival. We opted to have a meal too and that was a real treat both from the delicious food as well as delightful company.
this is B&B at its very best and outstanding value for money too. I cannot recommend it too highly.
After three hours of driving into the wee hours we were greeted by the smiling face of our host, Alastair, not a hint of tiredness, it was nearly 2am. Of course I don't recommend that everyone does this, but we were shown our rooms - heavenly - and made a cup of tea and given the best of attention until we went off to our beds.
The view on waking was breath-taking, an exquisitely kept garden with nothing but the sounds of birds and the distant call of a shepherd to his dog.
Breakfast was immense and 'naughty' - a selection of croissant and pastries with endless tea or coffee and friendly but discreet service.
I would love to go back when Normandy is a bit more lively as the towns were a bit sleepy in late October, and we had to eat on Sunday with the family. Delightful, of course, just kidding. I loved Linda's cooking!
A perfect writers retreat or honeymoon or diving board to explore Normandy. I give them all the stars out of five and one extra. Felt like home. Thank you Linda and Alastair.
We had the pleasure of staying at Le Rocher for 3 nights at the beginning of June and our stay exceeded all expectations. The hosts Linda and Alistair could not do enough to make our stay special and memorable and in fact we didn't want to leave to continue on the rest of our journey.
The breakfasts and evening meals were superb and the whole ambience of Le Rocher, its grounds and its very special owners will stay with us for a very long time.
This is a place you should make a point of visiting and we will be returning ourselves as soon as we can. The owners are very special people.
This wonderful B&B set in such a beautiful part of Normandy is not to be missed! Linda and Alastair made me feel at home from the moment I arrived. The bedroom was spotlessly clean, the bed so comfy, and every need was catered for with a tea and coffee tray with biscuits and even down to an English adaptor. I had arranged to have dinner there and so joined Linda and Alastair for an apéritif which was followed by a delicious meal cooked by Linda and accompanied by some lovely wine - fantastic value at 16€. Breakfast was equally as impressive with orange juice, fresh fruit salad, yoghurts, bread, croissants, various pastries and delicious home made jams. I was so impressed with Le Rocher that I booked again for my return journey the following week and also for our next visit to the area in July. Thank you Linda and Alastair for being such perfect hosts. À bientôt!
