Cottage in Ludon Hill, Crackington Haven, Nr Bude, North Cornwall - Splendid Views Of The Sea And Surrounding Countryside

Mays Cottage is set on the side of a hill above Crackington Haven. It is a new and exciting loft-style conversion, light and airy, with sliding doors that lead out to a balcony for eating outside and enjoying views of the sea, sunsets, the oak wood and Ludon Valley.

About Annie Robinson

We have lived in Crackington Haven for the last 25 years and feel fotunate to have brought up our family in this beautiful area of North Cornwall. I am a retired teacher and my husband, Johnny is a retired conservator of historic buildings.

Annie Robinson purchased this cottage in 1980

Why Annie Robinson chose Crackington Haven

We had lived in Corwall for many years when we eventually bought this house with it's stunning views of the Atlantic ocean and the surrounding countryside. It is set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is quiet at any time of the year although there is a lively pub and two cafes beside the sea which is only 300 metres away. We love the leafy lane that leads down from the garden. At the bottom of the hill it forks: one way takes you - in a minute or two - down to a sheltered beach and the South West coastal path the other takes you into East Wood where a footpath follows the stream through oaks, ferns, primroses, bluebells and wood anenomes in the spring; eventually leading to another beach at Strangles or the Coastal Path to Boscastle.

What makes this cottage unique

We call our holiday-let Mays Cottage. Perched on the side of a hill, Mays Cottage is quiet and relaxing and enjoys splendid views of the Ludon valley and the sea. It is ideal for a holiday at any time of the year: a romantic retreat or a walking holiday along the many beautiful footpaths in the parish, some visitors take the bus to Boscastle or Bude and walk back along the coast path, some surf the Atlantic waves or explore the rock pools and sandy beaches. At the end of the day enjoy watching the sunset from the balcony of Mays Cottage or sit outside the pub and watch the sun sink into the sea.

There is a tennis court beside the beach, a choice of five golf courses within twenty miles and Cornwall boasts many beautiful gardens.

Wonderful location.

  • 4 of 5

Wonderful location, very close to fabulous beach and cliffs of Crackington Haven, excellent for walking and views. Facilities in the cottage adequate - probably best for a couple, so that sofa-bed not required (a drag to be unfolding and folding it up every day, as it's in the middle of sitting room). Annie and John very kind and helpful.

Relaxing and revitalising - an ideal spot from which to walk the spectacular coast path and explore this beautiful part of Cornwall. A lovely cottage with great views, very peaceful, and equipped with everything I needed. John and Annie are welcoming and solicitous hosts. Brilliant! Thank you.

Owner's Response: It was a pleasure to host Clare. She really made the most of a short break even though the weather was sunshine and showers: taking buses to Bude or Boscastle and walking back along the coast path.

Such a beautiful home, so welcoming, amazing views.

  • 5 of 5

Annie and Johnnie were welcoming and helpful but not at all intrusive. They have created a beautiful home and garden together, which they were generous in sharing. The annexe/apartment allowed privacy for us as guests with the convenience of the hosts being available at a moment's notice - can't help feeling we got the best of the deal! Really close to the beach but even when the weather was stormy the home was cosy and we enjoyed watching the rain sweep across the valley. Can't recommend this highly enough

300 metres to a sandy beach with rockpools. Surfing all year and lifeguards in July and August. Other secluded beaches within the parish or at larger resorts such as Bude.

Newquay Airport approx, 30 miles. A car is useful but there is a bus service to and from Boscastle and Bude, from where you can catch a bus to Exeter.

Boscastle is about five miles away; Bodmin Moor with it's ponies and wildlife is 6 miles and Bude, a larger resort is 8 miles away and Port Isaac twenty. There are many good restauraunts in the area. Walking the coastal path you will discover secluded valleys and waterfalls, ancient woodlands with flowers, birds and animals, remote beaches and strands.

Further Details:

Crackington offers good catering, with two cafes and a public house beside the beach with an extensive menu. There are two beach shops and a post office and stores supplying fresh vegetables and bread. There is a riding stables and visitors can hire the tennis courts by the sea.
