About the property

Privately located with views.

Offering so much more than the usual caravan experience, the two bedroom Atlas caravan and 1958 Bluebird caravan have been refurbished to a high standard and are both in fabulous private positions on our 35 acre farm in the Marshwood Vale near Bridport. Ideal for relaxation or spending time your family. Perfect for walkers, cyclists, artists, bookworms, birdwatchers.

Less than a mile down the lane is the Shave Cross Inn, serving great food and drinks. Dogs are welcome in the bar and garden.

Both caravans offer complete privacy separately but are also near each other, making them perfect for friends or family who wish to holiday together.

In Atlas the stylish decor gives a modern and fresh feel, a laminated floor makes the caravan suitable for guests with a dog. With breathtaking views from the wooden deck and enclosed garden which faces South and West and has a gate out onto Purcombe Hill where you are free to walk your dog, run, play or just to sit on the bench on the top and to enjoy the fabulous views over the Marshwood Vale.

The 1959 Bluebird caravan has been restored to its original vintage condition with a modern shower-room a step away, it has a secluded courtyard garden with lovely views to the West.

Hot water is provided by our biomass burner which is fuelled by hay from our 35 acre farm. We keep free-range hens and geese and always have fresh eggs available to buy.

The Shave Cross Inn is a great pub (under new ownership from October 2018) and is less than a mile down the lane. The food is locally sourced and delicious.

There is a lovely garden to sit in on summer evenings, children and dogs welcome too.

There are numerous and varied restaurants, cafes and bars in Bridport, West Bay and Lyme Regis for eating out during your stay. You will find a guide in the information folder in each caravan.

The caravans have sun chairs to sit in to savour the sunsets and a barbecue/firebowl to cook on and keep you warm in the evenings. We also provide fire extinguishers and smoke alarms for peace of mind. Charmouth Beach is 7 miles away, it is a safe beach for swimming and also great for fossil enthusiasts, a visit to the Heritage Coast Centre by the car park is fascinating too. Fossil walks take place regularly from Charmouth and Lyme Regis.

An ideal location for getting away from the bustle of everyday life. There is little light or noise pollution giving ideal conditions for stargazing and other countryside pursuits - walking, watching wildlife and enjoying the birdsong! The barn owls are regularly spotted hunting at dusk or you may see a hare speeding across the fields!

Our meadows are managed to provide a habitat for wildlife and are full of butterflies, insects and wildflowers. You are welcome to walk around the meadows, we provide a map and mow paths around the farm. Wellies are a good idea, even in summer when the grass may be long off the footpaths.

About Georgina Bailey

Nicholas and Georgina Bailey live at Purcombe Farm, Pilsdon with their three sons. Nicholas was born and brought up near Bridport and has a wealth of local knowledge. The family have lived together in and around Bridport for over 20 years and would be happy to help you during your stay.

"We live in a beautiful, peaceful place and enjoy sharing it with you during your precious time away from the pressures of life. It is important to us that you are comfortable and have a lovely time while your are staying with us. Please ask if there is anything that we can do to make your holiday enjoyable. We hope to see you soon." Georgina

Georgina Bailey purchased this mobile home in 2009

Why Georgina Bailey chose Marshwood

We bought Purcombe Farm in September 2009, moving from another farm near Charmouth. We were attracted to the peace and quiet of Pilsdon and to the fabulous views and open skies. We find that Bridport is easy to get to and we enjoy being away from the busy coast, especially during the summer months. The farm had three caravans sited on it when we bought it, two of which were being rented out for holidays. We have improved and updated the first, Atlas, and our vintage 1959 Sun Regent Bluebird is now also available to rent either on its own or to provide extended accommodation for family and friends holidaying together, both are very private and have wonderful views.

Our next project is our 1979 Bedford Bus which we are converting to provide an unusual holiday home for guests who are looking for a quirky place to stay.

We are also renovating our Grade II* listed farmhouse and a vintage Aveling Road Traction steam engine both of which are on-going, long term projects!

What makes this mobile home unique

The rural location of the caravan allows you to enjoy the peace and quiet of the Dorset countryside whilst still being only a short drive from Bridport and the coast.

There are many things to do nearby...walking, flying a kite, fishing, bird watching, collecting fossils, building sandcastles and rock-pooling, enjoying live shows and art in Bridport, horse riding, fishing or just eating fish and chips on the beach and watching the world go by...

You couldn’t ask for a more beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

This little caravan was perfect for our stay in Dorset. It was equipped with everything you thought you’d need and more and was cosy, warm and comfortable. The panoramic view outside was breathtaking even when the rain was pouring down and it was lovely to wake up and hear the birds singing outside. The setting was ideal - we enjoyed visits to both Bridport and West Bay on the coast - but also the walking available locally meant we could leave the car and walk from the farm. A quick mention for the Shave Cross Inn - we enjoyed the food and beer in equal measure! Thank you, Georgina, for a lovely stay (and a delicious goose egg,). You are a very welcoming host and we had a lovely, relaxing time.

Lovely caravan, lovely place, lovely owner!

  • 5 of 5

The caravan is great fun, a blast from the past for those over ahem 40 and has everything you could need. A lovely little outdoor area with a wet room so close it might as well be in the caravan. It's in a lovely quiet spot on a proper Dorset thatched farm handy for lots of attractions. To top it off, Georgina and her husband were wonderful too. And the kids loved it as well.

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful stay in the Blue Bird Vintage Caravan. Lovely fresh flowers on arrival with milk and eggs in the fridge, biscuits by the kettle and even some dog treats for our Irish Terrier. Very pretty, clean and comfy with stunning views of the countryside. Our stayed was thoroughly enjoyed but parents and children. Would definitely stay again.

Peaceful and breathtaking views

  • 5 of 5

We had an absolutely lovely stay in the caravan. It was very clean and quirky with beautiful personal touches added.

A bowl of the eggs from the farm and a bottle of milk was in the fridge. Tea and biscuits were in the kitchen.

I took my 8yr old son and two nieces aged 8 & 10 away for the 3 nights. We absolutely loved the country side and it was lovely to have the children running around, enjoying their freedom.

Georgina who owns the caravan is so lovely, she is very helpful and patient. She showed the children the chickens which were on the farm and allowed my son to take one of the eggs.

There is so much to do in the area. Everything is within a 25minutes drive, we did so much during our stay.

I would, without a doubt, stay there again.

Happy Vintage Holiday!

  • 5 of 5

My girls and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Purcombe Farm. I would recommend staying in Bluebird wholeheartedly. It has been very sympathetically restored, maintaining most of its original features. The milk, biscuits and flowers were a lovely touch. We had mixed weather with rain on the first night but Bluebird kept us cosy and dry! The location is idyllic and the views beautiful. The facilities were clean, functional and private. This is Dorset at its best. We loved it and will definitely be returning.
