About Sarah Hewat Jaboor

We will make you very welcome and give you all the information and help you may need for a great stay. I am English and my husband is Dutch. We first came to this part of Spain forty years ago and still continue to enjoy living here in this special part of Spain.

Sarah Hewat Jaboor purchased this chateau / country house in 2004

Why Sarah Hewat Jaboor chose Turre

We built our house twelve years ago, and supervised the project every day for the two years it took. We are very proud of the result. Great attention to detail was our priority. A very special property that reflects the owners tastes acquired from years of travels in Asia and Africa.

We love this area. At home we have the peace and quiet of the countryside, and yet we are only minutes away from the coast and the villages.

Granada is a day trip away, and Cordoba and Seville are visited on an easy weekend trip.

We are well connected by Air, train, ferry and bus to the rest of Spain, Africa and Europe.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

Our beautiful Andaluz/ Moorish style country house has panoramic views over the olive and citrus groves.

Great for hiking . Mountains and beach close by.

There is nothing to beat the taste of freshly picked oranges and mandarins! Help yourself!

See the almond groves in blossom nearby in the early spring.Help with the Olive harvest in November.

We are five minutes from the village of Turre with small shops and supermarkets, and ten from the low rise beach area which is well known for its local beach bars, restaurants, shopping center. We also have beautiful natural unspoilt beaches nearby.

The unique whitewashed moorish village of Mojacar is steeped in history.

Local villages have weekly farmers markets.

Fabulous 2 weeks - wish we didn't have to leave...

  • 5 of 5

El Olivar is an idyllic villa, set away from it all and still within easy reach of everything you could want. Spotlessly clean and very well equipped (especially the kitchen if you like to cook), the house is a joy to stay in both inside and out. In the 2 weeks we were there, I don't think we managed to sit in all the available little spaces around the garden and courtyard, despite our best efforts. The pool is spectacular and very well kept (3 visits in 2 weeks by unobtrusive pool men) and the outside terrace is a great place to eat or just sit about. The boys enjoyed the eerily silent trampoline! Locally, the Super Turre supermarket is really well stocked (especially if you yearn for English things!) but we found the Mercadona in Garrucha really good and a bit quieter than the one in Mojacar Playa. Loads of places to eat, wander and people watch in both Playa and Garrucha too and plenty of touristy shopping all over Mojacar Pueblo. Almeria old town is a good place to visit should you want to venture further afield.

Sarah was very welcoming and it was easy to meet up on our way to the villa. I have no hesitation in recommending El Olivar and was genuinely sad to leave.

Fantastic stay!

  • 5 of 5

This is the second time we have stayed here and we are planning for a third. I wrote a review last fall about how gorgeous the property is. We spent a month here last summer and it was fantastic.

There are three bedrooms and as a group we mostly sat outside, either on the lovely terrace, or by the pool. One of the 'bedrooms' is literally a separate apartment, perfect for in-laws, although we personally liked the main bedroom with the outdoor (very private) shower and Moroccan bath. The kitchen is easy to use. The pool is large and private. The very few surrounding houses are at a real distance. My mother, who has trouble walking and and is partially blind, had no problem getting in and out of the water- or getting around the property.

We never used the air conditioning, only the fans in each room because of the fabulous cross breeze. The house is itself is very private, surrounded by orange, lemon and olive trees, and off the beaten path. The house has Moroccan design elements to it, mixed with colonial India- very elegant- and it has an inner courtyard with orange and olive trees.

The house is seemingly removed from civilization in the 'campo' (countryside) but it is actually close to everything. Mojacar village is 7 minutes or so away- and Turre even closer (you will want to go to the Super Turre supermarket, which is well stocked with anything you might need.) Mojacar is a charming white-washed village with lots restaurants and shops. The beach is about 10 minutes away, maybe 12 if there is any traffic. The beaches are lovely in Mojacar and the beach bars and restaurants a highlight. The Aku Aku beach bar and restaurant has good paella and it's fun for people watching. Tito's bar and restaurant is also super. I liked the Esencia jewelry shop at the crossroad mall- Parque Comercial Mojácar. Kasbah is right down the road and has beautiful Moroccan clothing, household decorative items and jewelry.

We highly recommend Casa Adelina restaurant in Turre. Their pork dishes (Iberian press or pork loin with salmon and Roquefort) make me wish I were there, right now! They are super-friendly.

Hiking in the mountains behind the house and up the road is also worthwhile. The water cascading down through the mountains behind the house (for irrigation purposes) is lovely. You have to hike up there to see it, and you will not regret it. The sunsets are beautiful from the house. You might hear some goat bells off in the distance. Incredible place!

A charming villa in a great setting

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent two glorious weeks in this lovely property. We did get out and about but we were happiest simply spending time by the large pool or the expansive central courtyard. At times we felt as though we were transported into the orient. We were sorry to say goodbye. Thank you Sarah.

Peaceful & beautiful

  • 5 of 5

This was the 2nd time we have stayed at this property. It is a beautiful and peaceful place to be. The villa is packed full of character. It feels like home...but with a warmer climate! My partner and I have twin boys aged 10 and it works well for both our age groups. The swimming pool is perfect and a really good size. The villa is large and homely. The decor is great...not at all naff or modern. It is earthly and feels loved. The trampoline is large and safe. The local amenities are fine...good, not great but friendly and pretty much all you need whilst on holiday. The villa has an annexe (perfect for friends or parents etc)...we didn't use it but it could be brilliant if needed. The owner was really helpful and kind. She was around if needed or nowhere to be seen if not. Which I think is very thoughtful. We shall be booking again.

Blissful tranquility

  • 5 of 5

El Olivar is a lovely house and it's a real treat to stay there. The place is so comfortable and lived in; not like so many rental homes, this is a real home.

The abiding memory is of blissful peace, interrupted only by the sound of the bells around the necks of the goats or the occasional braying of a donkey.

All the facilities are excellent and the outside shower is something else - a real joy to shower in the open air.

Bliss!
