About ANGELA PORTER

Having both worked in the creative worlds of design and advertising, we now work in the healing arts. I am a five Element Acupuncturist and Lawrence a craniosacral and massage therapist.

We wanted to find a piece of heaven to rest and recharge. We found it here in Puglia in a beautiful olive grove, where we have renovated a two cone trullo and stone lamia to create Casale Dell' Oliveto.

ANGELA PORTER purchased this villa in 2010

Why ANGELA PORTER chose Brindisi area

Puglia was a revelation to us back in 2010. A beautiful and unspoiled part of Italy with a wonderful climate, great food, beautiful coastline, friendly people and so, so much to explore and enjoy. From the UK, it is easy to get to all year round.

Property and land is still available to anyone who enjoys a project and has the vision to create something unique and beautiful.

What makes this villa unique

It's so very peaceful here in the countryside and yet nearby there are beautiful villages with exciting markets, wonderful architecture, beaches, restaurants and more.

The villa has a lot of room – private corners here and there to read or relax. A big pool, a choice of eating areas, the BBQ and a kitchen fit for a chef.

The garden is getting well established, especially the walled herb and citrus garden. Parsley, basil, rosemary, thyme and chillis are plentiful and, we've just had our first lemons!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Fantastic place, better than the photographs, made for a wonderful holiday. We are a family of five, with two teenage children & one student. We had the most wonderful holiday here. The house was better than we could have expected.Everything was perfect. Sid

We thoroughly recommend this place. Just to say we had a fantastic time at the villa - kids loved the pool, house is beautifully done and we really enjoyed Puglia. Will definitely be back. Jonathan.

The house itself is very well laid out and all of the furniture and furnishings are very tasteful. The pool was also really wonderful, especially with the great hot days that we had. It made for a most relaxing holiday. You have obviously thought through very well what is needed, and you made it one of our best holidays. Thank you. Jon.

This is a seriously stylish villa with an incredible pool... We could not recommend this villa highly enough... The owners have thought of everything to ensure a memorable holiday.

Further Details:

Puglia's whitewashed ancient towns rising from acres of silver olive groves, to some make it look more like Greece or even Morocco than other parts of Italy. But here you can have an authentic experience of southern Italy. The land today is cultivated for it's olives, fruits and vines, as it has been for centuries. Narrow lanes twist through a landscape of ancient olive groves, vineyards, orchards and pasture land. Towns and villages stud this landscape, often upon rocky outcrops. Among the most striking and worth a visit, are nearby Ostuni, Cisternino, Locorotondo, Alberobello and Martina Franca, all have beautiful old cathedrals, churches and ancient houses.

Nearby Ostuni (10km) is regarded as an architectural jewel, commonly referred to as "the White Town" (La Città Bianca). In the summer months it is a sophisticated tourist destination. The most popular activity here, is to just stroll around watching and greeting people, shopping for souvenirs (olive oil), occasionally stopping at the numerous cool bars for a drink and then maybe, ending up at an intimate restaurant or outdoor pizzeria for a delicious lunch or dinner. There is a huge food and clothes market every Saturday and a delightful antiques market on the second Sunday of every month.

Ceglie Messapica (4.5km) is dominated by the medieval castle and is a gastronomic center. It has a quite provincial feel, but is home to some of the best restaurants in the area. There is an excellent food market every Saturday morning. There are also numerous small, very reasonably priced Osteria to discover, tucked away in Ceglie's ancient winding narrow streets. Delicious rustic food is the specialty here, washed down with the local Primitivo or Negroamaro wine.

Further afield there are many possibilities for excursions. Among our favorites is the spectacular baroque city of Lecce, the UNESCO World Heritage site of Matera and the beautiful coastal towns of Polignano a Mare, Monopoli, Gallipoli and Otranto.

Fantastic stay at Casale dell 'Oliveto

  • 5 of 5

We've had a fantastic stay at Casale dell 'Oliveto. The property was even better than the pictures suggested and had everything needed to make our holiday as enjoyable as possible. The pool area was amazing.

The arrangements went very smoothly, Ottavio met us as arranged and took us to the property, showed us how to use everything, even changed my hire car satnav to English!

Ostuni was great in the evening, very bustly with bars, restaurants and shops. Lots of lovely towns and villages to visit, make sure you head for the historical centres. We'd definitely recommend this property and area to others.

Beautiful

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic rural location, beautifully designed and finished trullo with a great attention to detail. Angela and Lawrence are clearly foodies with everything a cook needs (including a traditional wood-fired pizza oven!). The landscaping and outside areas are stunning with a huge terrace that we took full use of every evening during our stay. Can't recommend it highly enough.

Spectacular stay

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful place Casale dell'Oliveto is. It is beautifully furnished and decorated both inside and out whilst never losing sight of its main purpose: as a place to relax in comfort within stunning surroundings. The pool is a great size; allowing adults to swim lengths in a futile attempt to work off the local (utterly delicious) food, and children to splash around on the steps in the shallow end. It was also a perfect temperature in early August.

The outside seating and dining area, the verandah, the rooftop and the walled garden offered plenty of variety over our two week stay to lounge and eat in different spots around the house. In fact one is regularly discovering new aspects of it - all thought through with admirable foresight and indeed taste by the owners.

Inside the house stays fairly cool even in the mid-summer Puglian temperatures whilst the vast bathrooms and walk-in showers are the perfect place to cool down before one's sundowners.

Ceglie Messapica is only a 10 minute drive away and provides supermarkets as well as pretty cobbled streets and mouth watering gastronomy. Ostuni and Martina Franca are both extremely picturesque and very close. The coast is no more than 30 minutes away and there are some pretty stylish beach clubs, especially near Savalletri. However when you've got a pool like the one at Casale dell'Oliveto to go back to, the sand, pebbles and swathes of people are often left behind rather quickly!

Beautiful Villa in amazing Italian countryside

  • 5 of 5

To say that we were excited about our stay was an understatement.

The villa had been a recommendation from a friend who had enjoyed their stay immensely as well.

We were there to celebrate my wife's (significant age) birthday with the bonus of it also being mine and my Father in Laws whilst we were there, three birthday celebrations in all.

The owners agent Ottavio met us in the center of town and we then followed him to the villa in our rental car.

After a pleasant drive on some lovely windy roads we arrived on the gravel road leading to the villa.

Charming is a complete understatement and the first views of the property were all we hoped it would be.

Ottavio then went through all the security and features of the house, gave us a bottle of local fizz and left us to it.

All I can say is that the pictures whilst lovely dont do the property justice until you see it with your own eyes!

Everything was as described and the house was clean, with all modern conveniences yet still with all the old world 'trullo' charm.

There are many sofas, nooks and places to 'hide' from the sun and where a 2yr old daughters schedule will allow plenty of opportunities for peaceful afternoon naps.

Its location leant itself to plenty of day trips to all the local (and not so local) towns and we found many amazing restaurants (great recommendation guidebook put together by the owners) and sight seeing opportunities.

The Italians love children and were so welcoming to us and our toddler.

Angela and Laurence were even able to locate a travel crib for our daughter to sleep in.

Overall the villa was amazing, in an amazing location and in an amazing part of southern Italy.

Totally recommended!!!

Birthday celebrations

  • 5 of 5

Having spend a week in this beautiful villa with our daughter, husband and grand daughter. This was to celebrate our daughters 40th birthday.

The villa was everything and more as the description sated. Perfect to relax and enjoy the beautiful countryside. The villa was spotlessly clean well maintained and furnished to a high standard (lovely antiques!). We were very lucky with the weather so we visited local towns and villages.

Would highly recommend this for a family holiday or just adults.

We would love to go back to explore more of beautiful Italy.
