About the Owner

Louise spent two years converting this fascinating old Cider Barn. She has previously worked in property but has never taken on such a large but ultimately rewarding project. Was she mad, fool hardy or just brave? Louise loves the final finished beamed Cider Barn - her guests say it is peaceful, spiritual and they feel refreshed. Her children Will, James and Rose are all working elsewhere but they visit regularly, and love the walks and runs along the River Tone and the little spring flower clad lanes. Louise has worked abroad three times and travelled alot, but she is happy in this special corner of the West Country - accompanied by Sika her charming, black cocker. She will recommend and book local pubs for you.

Fantastic New Year Break

  • 5 of 5

We were a group of 8 friends who rented Cider Barn for the New Year.

The beds were comfortable and the living space was large enough to accommodate all of us with additional spaces for those who wanted a quiet moment to read.

The kitchen was very well equipped and large enough for us all to cook a 4 course meal on New Year’s Eve.

Louise made us feel very welcome and was most helpful in providing details of walks and pubs in the area.

Thanks for making New Year 2016 a memorable occasion.

Owner's Response: I am so pleased you found Cider Barn comfortable and well-equipped - that is what I hope my guests will all feel. I hope also that you all sleep well here and finish your stay feeling rested. Thank you so much for writing a super review and for the Fizzy left for me in the kitchen.

A wonderful place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We rented the whole of the Cider Barn for a family gathering over a weekend, and it couldn't have been more ideal. The bedrooms were wonderfully comfortable and peaceful, with lovely views from each one. The upstairs living area - wow! - it was such a dramatic yet homely space, we felt instantly relaxed and very welcome. The kitchen had everything in it that we could possibly need, and it was lovely to have Louise's family photos and treasures all around us, it truly felt like we were staying with an old friend. Thank you so much Louise for letting us share your wonderful home.

[Small note: The stairs are fairly steep, had my children been any younger than they were, a temporary stairgate at the top would have been a welcome addition.]

From the Owner

Wonderful, uplifting, tall Cider Barn, in such a quiet, pretty location. Amazingly convenient, 1 mile lovely small town of Wellington, with all facilities, yet only 2.5 miles M5. I adore the walks along River Tone and footpaths in all directions, it is so peaceful and the River is tranquil and beautiful. We are surrounded by special wooded glades, undulating hills and at present spring flowers. I love it.

From the Owner

So easy, I can walk into Wellington across the River and fields. I can walk to the local pub, it is quiet and tranquil but only 2.5 miles to M5. Nearby small, quaint town has a great Community run lido type swimming pool and cafe in Wiveliscombe - also with tennis club, kids play area, cricket pitch and good shops - all about 3 miles away. Wellington Sports Centre is 1.5 miles for indoor pool, gym, and more. What a dramatic building the Cider Barn is - how often can you enjoy such a wonderful, beamed space with its open roof and 7 king posts on display. My guests tell me they sleep like babies all night through, is not that wonderful? I want them to feel refreshed and chilled out - they say they are in Cider Barn.

  • Notes on accommodation: This Cider Barn is light, airy, and solid with huge beams to the first and ground floors. There is a central stair well creating a dramatic rise up the staircase, with its striped carpet and fun 'trickle' lights, leading to the main living area. Sustainably heated using air source heat pump and efficient, lively flamed woodburner, which does need lighting each day in winter. Outside: We have a pretty, South West facing, sunny courtyard garden with tables and chairs. White iceberg roses flower across the front of the barn, flowering till December and any frosts. It is a quiet, peaceful spot in which to read a book or set out for a walk on one of the many footpaths.
