About David Hughes

David and Helen, who own this property, both work in education. Born locally, David has an extensive knowledge of walking, canoeing, cycling and sailing in the Mournes and further afield. He would be happy to advise those interested in outdoor pursuits and has close links with key outdoor centers and qualified instructors in the area.

David Hughes purchased this bungalow in 2010

Why David Hughes chose County Down

We have 3 children and love the area because of the easy access to the mountains and beach for running, walking and just chilling out with the kids. We often use the property, and rarely have to use the car, as even walking up Donard is easily done from the house. The other advantage is that in the evening the house is only a short walk back from the many lovely restaurants and bars in the town.

The house is also a short walk from the superb links golf course 'Royal County Down'.

What makes this bungalow unique

Everyone who stays here comments on how comfortable and relaxing it is. The house has good outdoor space in the private garden for BBQs on sunny days, and cosy in the winter with the wood burning stove. It is truly a home from home with a well equipped kitchen, books, guides and games.

Comfortable clean house in quiet area

  • 5 of 5

A really nice house close to shops and beach and playgrounds. Very clean with a back garden closed suitable for small children. Photos don't do the house justice. The owner made us very welcome and was very helpful. My stay was short but I'll come back here if I can and recommend it my family and friends

Great property, well furnished with everything you'd need for your stay. Welcome pack and information on local sight seeing and other points of interest really useful. Ideal location, close to town centre and beach. Will definitely use again and more than happy to recommend! (Pictures don't do the property justice)

Exceeds expectations!

  • 5 of 5

We booked for five days and could happily have stayed longer. The property was spotlessly clean and really well equipped. The welcome pack was really thoughtful and much appreciated and David was very helpful and could not have been more flexible. The photos do not do the property justice and I would thoroughly recommend it.

Excellent holiday house

  • 5 of 5

This house was perfect for a family break in Newcastle. Very clean, comfortable and well equipped. We spent our time in the big kitchen and sun lounge at the rear. Peaceful location a few minutes walk from the shops and promenade of Newcastle. We had fantastic weather and made the most of the Mourne Mountains, Murlough beach and Tollymore Forest Park. We visit Newcastle regularly, so will definitely be back.
