A 17th Century Barn Converted Into Two Cottages, Ideal For Couples - Rowella Cottage Sleeps 2 (1 Bedroom)

Overview

Property

Updated: 05-Nov-2016
Rural Cottages in Blisland, Cornwall, England - At the end of a Private Lane With Fine Views Of The Surrounding Countryside

Demelza and Rowella Cottage are converted from a 17th century barn, which was used for farming purposes until 1986. The cottages are ideal for couples and combine comfort with all the original character of the building, including open beams, wooden lintels, small paned windows and cottage doors. The cottages have a sitting room, separate kitchen, and en-suite double bedroom. They are situated in the attractive hamlet of Tregenna at the end of a private lane with fine views over the surrounding countryside. The village of Blisland is half a mile way and is one of the most picturesque in Cornwall with a free house inn, shop and post office. Blisland village is mentioned in the writings of Sir John Betjeman. The cottages are well situated for walking, touring and visits to the beaches. The nearby Camel Trail provides a quiet and scenic route for walking and cycling.

Sorry we missed speaking to you before we left for home yesterday - just a short note on how much we enjoyed our stay in Rowella Cottage.

Although the weather was changeable, we managed to do everything we wanted to do. The countryside around Blisland is beautiful - we particularly liked the Camel Trail and Coastal Paths. We found the cottage well equipped and cosy and will recommend it to friends and family as somewhere to unwind and relax. Best wishes,

Period cottage set in very quiet and peaceful rural location

  • 5 of 5

The property was very well maintained and contained all the necessary resources for a home -from -home stay in rural Cornwall.

The owners were very helpful with providing information on the locality. After our warm welcome, we barely knew the owners were in the neighbouring property. Everyone was incredibly quiet!! Many thanks for sharing your property with us for the week.

Lovely little cottage, decent facilities, a great place to stay!

  • 4 of 5

The cottage was lovely, well presented and clean, and even though the converted barn hosted two cottages, they were completely separate with their own entrances, and perfectly private. The owner was very friendly and nice. She met us on arrival, showed us around the cottage and gave some helpful info and advice about the local services, before leaving us to our own devices for the remainder of the stay.

The facilities were perfectly fine for our needs - nothing amazing, but just fine for the price. Internet was decently reliable and fast, allowing us to plan our days out with no trouble (and particularly useful considering the awful mobile reception), and the washing machine was especially appreciated!

We were warned more than once by locals that satnav is not reliable in Cornwall - while this may have been true once, it doesn't seem to be any more. We relied on Google maps, in particular the 'offline maps' feature, and while we had a couple of missed turns here or there while getting around, this was down to our own error, not the navigation. We certainly had no trouble finding the cottage, where we would almost certainly have struggled following a map or directions on the tiny roads.

The cottage is well placed for access to the A30 - although not quite so much for us, since there were roadworks along the stretch where you would normally exit to Blisland, adding a few minutes to every trip - but this obviously couldn't be helped, and wasn't a huge problem anyway!

Overall a lovely little cottage, and a great place to stay. We would definitely consider coming back in future - thanks for a brilliant holiday!

Good subject to previous comments

Very clean . storage heating was turned down to minimum so very cold second day.controls not explained so took another day to heat up.1/2 mile walk to a good pub with a selection of real ales but down very narrow lanes -quite dangerous with respect to traffic. The bedroom is located under the living room which makes it noisy if you don't go to bed at the same time as your partner. Overall 3 stars keep up the good work. Surroundings great if you enjoy peace and quiet

Lovely Cottage in a Lovely Location

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is in a lovely peaceful location, but within easy walking distance of Blisland with its pub and shop/post office. Due to the time of year and weather we didn't actually walk to the pub because of the lack of lighting and a pavement, but in the Summer it would be very walkable with maybe a torch for the walk back should that be in the dark.

The cottage is everything we were looking, lots of character, very cosy and everything we needed for an enjoyable stay.

I would recommend checking for likely delays on the A30 westwards near Blisland and possibly avoiding that section of the A30.

Peaceful rural location

  • 3 of 5

A traditionally furnished, two storey cottage in a shared barn conversion with sister cottage Demelza. Peaceful, rural location within walking distance of the lovely village of Blisland with excellent pub/restaurant and village shop/post office.

The owner was helpful when we arrived (although prior warning of the ongoing road works and road closures would have been appreciated) and lent us local OS maps which were invaluable.

Rowella cottage is north facing and rather dark, but there is private seating outside which catches the sun most of the day.

The cottage is furnished as described, clean, practical and well maintained, but the kitchen only has basic equipment.

We enjoyed the Camel Trail and Snail Trail Cafe at Wenford Bridge. Also Lanhydrock House and local walks around the area. Blisland to Lavethan Woods particularly recommended. See iWalkCornwall website.
