About the property

Demelza and Rowella Cottage are converted from a 17th century barn, which was used for farming purposes until 1986. The cottages are ideal for couples and combine comfort with all the original character of the building, including open beams, wooden lintels, small paned windows and cottage doors. The cottages have a sitting room, separate kitchen, and en-suite double bedroom. They are situated in the attractive hamlet of Tregenna at the end of a private lane with fine views over the surrounding countryside. The village of Blisland is half a mile way and is one of the most picturesque in Cornwall with a free house inn, shop and post office. Blisland village is mentioned in the writings of Sir John Betjeman. The cottages are well situated for walking, touring and visits to the beaches. The nearby Camel Trail provides a quiet and scenic route for walking and cycling.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Sorry we missed speaking to you before we left for home yesterday - just a short note on how much we enjoyed our stay in Rowella Cottage.

Although the weather was changeable, we managed to do everything we wanted to do. The countryside around Blisland is beautiful - we particularly liked the Camel Trail and Coastal Paths. We found the cottage well equipped and cosy and will recommend it to friends and family as somewhere to unwind and relax. Best wishes,

lovely property

  • 5 of 5

The property was lovely. The owners live on site and greeted us but never desturbed us. There was a lovely pack of information about the WIFI and things to do in the area as well as a local map., so we felt welcome. The cottage made a lovely peaceful retreat and I felt very at home.

The views were lovely.

Comfortable & clean with almost everything that can be expected of a self Catering Cottage.

  • 4 of 5

Although a bit off the beaten track, Rowella Cottage is close enough to Bodmin & Wadebridge to stock up with supplies and central enough to reach Tintagel and Eden Project & Bodmin Moor with an easy (but long) drive to St Michael's Mount & Lands End.. It was like home from home just a lot quieter, very relaxing. There is a good size free standing freezer, so we only needed on shop once to stock up for the week, giving us more time to sight-see. We enjoyed our stay. Margaret and Clifford are helpful and unobtrusive.

Very clean and well presented

  • 4 of 5

The only comment we would make is that the sofa was not very comfortable, and the TV was a bit small, but other than that we enjoyed our stay.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your comments. The sofa referred to is a classic Ercol model, very supportive and comfortable - certainly a contrast to the "sink into" sofa some may prefer and are more familiar with. With regard to the television, we wanted a set with a built-in CD/DVD player and this was the largest available with this facility.

Cosy, warm and inviting

  • 5 of 5

I had a lovely stay at Rowella. The cottage was perfect for my needs and was a great central base for getting out and about. Sitting on the step with a cuppa listening to birdsong was a treat. I would encourage anyone going to support the Community Shop in Blisland. It caters for all grocery needs and there is a café at the back of the store with some delicious homemade cakes. I did my best to support it by going for coffee and cake regularly!

Thank you for a lovely stay. I shall definitely return.

Period cottage set in very quiet and peaceful rural location

  • 5 of 5

The property was very well maintained and contained all the necessary resources for a home -from -home stay in rural Cornwall.

The owners were very helpful with providing information on the locality. After our warm welcome, we barely knew the owners were in the neighbouring property. Everyone was incredibly quiet!! Many thanks for sharing your property with us for the week.

Lovely little cottage, decent facilities, a great place to stay!

  • 4 of 5

The cottage was lovely, well presented and clean, and even though the converted barn hosted two cottages, they were completely separate with their own entrances, and perfectly private. The owner was very friendly and nice. She met us on arrival, showed us around the cottage and gave some helpful info and advice about the local services, before leaving us to our own devices for the remainder of the stay.

The facilities were perfectly fine for our needs - nothing amazing, but just fine for the price. Internet was decently reliable and fast, allowing us to plan our days out with no trouble (and particularly useful considering the awful mobile reception), and the washing machine was especially appreciated!

We were warned more than once by locals that satnav is not reliable in Cornwall - while this may have been true once, it doesn't seem to be any more. We relied on Google maps, in particular the 'offline maps' feature, and while we had a couple of missed turns here or there while getting around, this was down to our own error, not the navigation. We certainly had no trouble finding the cottage, where we would almost certainly have struggled following a map or directions on the tiny roads.

The cottage is well placed for access to the A30 - although not quite so much for us, since there were roadworks along the stretch where you would normally exit to Blisland, adding a few minutes to every trip - but this obviously couldn't be helped, and wasn't a huge problem anyway!

Overall a lovely little cottage, and a great place to stay. We would definitely consider coming back in future - thanks for a brilliant holiday!
