Fantastic house

The Lairds House is a fantastic holiday cottage. We spent a lovely week there. The open plan living area is great and all with under floor heating, which was a brilliant area for our newly walking little boy. The kitchen has everything that you could possibly need. Both the bedrooms are very spacious and extremely comfortable. It was lovely to stay in a working farm and being able to go around the farm and see all the animals is brilliant. Overall this is a wonderful place to stay and the surrounding area is fantastic to explore.

Amazing holiday

Home from Home

Just returned from our 4th visit, 5th already booked for September 2015 and will then plan 2016 visits. House is just like the title but with the benefits of no ringing doorbells or telephone calls. The Location, views and surounding areas are all worth the visit alone. The new walkway around Castle Loch is worth a visit and also Dock Park in Dumfies. The Hightae Inn is well worth a visit for an excellent meal.

Lastly do not forget to watch the stars, according to Angie their is an App you an get on your I-Pad which names the stars when held up to the sky. Thanks to the Ross family for another excellent Holiday.

Super Family Cottage

Laird House is a great family cottage in a really nice rural location.

The Property had everything we needed, (as described in the listing) we made good use of the washing machine and dishwasher, as well as the WIFI, which came in handy for planning day trips, and posting photos!

The property was clean and well maintained, and the owners were friendly and helpful.

The area is rich with activities for days out, and we left feeling that we could easily have spent an extra week.

We loved the beaches at Sandyhills and Rockliffe, but everyone's favourite day out was the Cream of Galloway Ice Cream Factory. Here the family can enjoy not only fantastic ice cream but lots of outdoor activities including "Go Boing" and a quality (pedal) Go Kart Course.

We would (and already have) recommended this holiday to anyone.

Very comfortable accommodation, lots of room to move about , a real home from home. Angie and family very helpful and always available for advice and assistance and the welcome pack on arrival was very welcome. Lots of places to visit, Glasgow, rock and crystal museum, chocolate factory and Smiths restaurant in Gretna highly recommended! Interesting too, to stay on a working farm watching the animals, especially the lambs.

A great place to stay for all age groups.

From the Owner

We are all born and bred in the local area and know every last square inch like the back of our hands. We cannot rate Dumfriesshire highly enough for visitors and can recommend days out to suit any age - all of which have been tried and tested by our own family first! The cottage is a labour of love and has been converted from our old dairy. Most of the renovation work was done ourselves and we have some excellent testimonials from guests returning again and again.

Special interest holidays:

Many visitors enjoy feeding the poultry and collecting and eating the eggs from the farm. At certain times of year we have calves and lambs to feed. The farm ponies can also be ridden by arrangement.


There are many beaches along our Solway Coast, the nearest of which is Powfoot at 20 minutes drive by car.


Ideally located as a base for touring South West Scotland, Cumbria, the Lake District and the Borders you can find us just ten minutes from the main M74 moterway at Lockerbie. Although in a very accessible location, with all the necessary amenities within a five mile drive, Laird House has a distinctly rural, tranquil feel.

International airports at Glasgow, Prestwick and Newcastle can be found less than 2 hours' drive away.

Car essential.


Situated just off the main route west from the M74, Laird House is within extremely easy access of many local market towns including Lockerbie (four miles) and Dumfries (five miles) as well as the smaller towns of Lochmaben (one mile), Gretna, Annan and Moffat.

Laird House is a mere 10 minute drive from the main M74 connecting England and Scotland. We are in a quiet rural location however the nearby town of Lochmaben (1 mile) has all the amenities you will ever need. Together with a bakers shop, post office, italian ice-cream cafe and greengrocers there is also the local sailing club, golf course, a few pubs and you will be within a 10 minute drive of many of the 7Stanes mountain bike trails.   • Notes on accommodation: A wood burining stove allows for cosy nights in by the fire and the house also has under floor heating for instant warmth and a fully heated conservatory from which to enjoy the surrounding countryside in luxury. The conservatory doubles as a games room, complete with air hockey table and many other games for evening entertainment. The decor throughout the house is light and airy and creates a relaxed feel from the moment you walk through the door. The long tree lined avenue leading to the farm opens into an expanse of green fields, a working farm steading and Laird House itself, nestled not far from the main farmhouse. It sits within its own grounds and has its own private access with parking for two cars. The excellent disabled access allows guests to be independent and the enclosed garden is child friendly and safe. Outside: The private and secure garden is ideal for children and pets and includes a large sand pit. The raised patio area with furniture has stunning views of the surrounding countryside and is ideal for summer barbeques. Utility Room: Washing machine Tumble drier Clother airer Iorn and ironing board Cleaning / Towels / Linen: Linen and towels are included in the price.
