Tranquil Rural Casa Set In Own Olive Grove With Sierra Views + Own Plunge Pool

Updated: 08-Dec-2016
2 bed Casita In Mountains of Almedinilla and Priego de Cordoba, Andalucia, Spain. Where 3 Provinces Meet: Cordoba, Granada & Jaen. On The Edge Of Friendly Las Navas Village

Debbie and Jay spent a year renovating their "forever" home in this very special and little known corner of Andalucia and are proud of every stone and paint stroke.

Whilst Casa Girasol is ideally located for easy day trips to Jaen, Cordoba and Granada there is much to explore in the local area.

Visit a plethora of whitewashed Spanish villages with locals snoozing outside tapas bars, goats walking along the country roads and mules carrying panniers of olives to the local mill.

Almedinilla (8km) boasts a Roman villa, museum and coliseum.

Priego de Cordoba itself has amazing baroque architecture, fountains and acclaimed Moorish quarter of geranium clad whitewashed streets.

Casa Girasol - The fully private casita adjoins the main house and is situated in its own olive grove with private plunge pool.

The Casita is accessed by a gravel path of approx 50 metres.

The front door opens out onto a private sun terrace with outside furniture and BBQ.

The bedroom, living room and sun terrace all have breathtaking sierra views of mountains covered in olive trees for as far as the eye can see. Seeing is believing!

Parking is off road.

Wildlife includes the illusive genet, wild boar and hares.

Bird life abounds with Hoopoes, Bee Eaters, Kites, Scops owls, Nightingale's and Bonelli Eagle.

For wild flowers, come in April and May for the best display.

About the Owner

Debbie and Jay relocated from Cornwall in November 2010 to live permanently in Spain. Jay speaks fluent Spanish and Debbie is happy to chat about pretty much anything! They spent twelve months renovating an old cortijo and animal stables set in their own olive grove on the outskirts of the spread-out village of Las Navas in rural Andalucia. The community is incredibly welcoming and neighbours often call round with gifts of fruit and vegetables... and being as self sufficient as possible (the cortijo even has its own well!) Debbie and Jay delight in reciprocating. Having lovingly restored much of the guest accommodation themselves, Jay and Debbie have literally put their DNA into the fabric of the building and are proud of every stone and brushstroke. A very warm welcome awaits you at Casa Girasol.

Guestbook comments from the manager

This is our second visit to Debbie and Jay’s Casa Girasol casita and guess what - it beat the first! Which I did not think possible! Once again, the casita blew us away with how pretty and well equipped it was, with such a relaxing atmosphere and the awesome patio looking out across the outstanding landscape with your own luxury sun loungers! I could spend hours lying in the olive groves, dipping in the plunge pool , and listening to the wildlife that surrounds you. Aside from just happily relaxing and spending eh evenings sipping delicious Spanish wine (which can be bough for 6 Euros for 5 liters from the local supermarket! More than enough to get us through 10 days and share with friends!), we were blown away by trips to the local waterfalls (we felt like we were in a movie) and the beautiful little villages and towns that are no more than 10 minutes away. And we spent the most fabulous night in Granada as a treat, as that is only 45 minutes down the road. I cannot express enough that this place is a hidden gem - people who are at all considering holidaying in Spain, let alone the Andalucía region, should immediately consider booking in here. And to top it all, you are hosted by two of the loveliest people I have ever met who will do anything they can to make your stay the best you could possible want it to be. I am jealous of anyone who is booking a holiday from reading this review - I wish I were going back tomorrow! Thank you Debbie and Jay

Absolutely brilliant.

  • 5 of 5

Debbie and Jay have thought of everything. The delicious welcome pack, information about the surrounding area, maps to borrow, books, DVDs, even some art stuff. The little cottage is well equipped and they are quite happy to lend anything not there, including some tape to mend my glasses that I managed to break on the first day! The view from the patio is beautiful, I could have sat there all day (we did simply chill for a couple of days!) and the surrounding countryside is stunning. You really need a car/motorbike to get there but don't need to travel far to experience the 'real' Spanish feel of the local towns and villages. Priego is beautiful, the waterfalls refreshing, the castle at Alcala la Real very impressive, the lake and town of Aznajar very picturesque and all within a 45 minute drive. On the way we stocked up at a huge Carrefour just off the roundabout at Lucena which doesn't close during the day luckily. Google street view so you don't take a wrong turn. Shopping isn't a problem though with good facilities in Priego and Alcala. We stopped off at Antequera on the way back to Malaga which is also very pretty with stunning views from the top of the hill. We are definitely coming back to the area soon, maybe even to live the dream like Debbie and Jay.

Picturesque, cosy and magical

  • 5 of 5

The rural property is absolutely picturesque and magical. The property was so cosy and comfortable. On arrival the fire was lit in the fireplace and the house was warm and lovely. Casa Girasol is cute, charming and well-kept. It truly feels like you are staying at an old Andalucian rural house. During the following days we explored the land on the property and around the olive groves, and it was incredibly beautiful. The terrace is a lovely spot to sit and have your morning breakfast in the sun overlooking the olive groves. It is very well situated as well as Priego de Cordoba and Alcala de Real are just a short drive away, which are very interesting and both worth a visit. Debbie and Jay are very welcoming and friendly. I can't wait to return back to Casa Girasol. I would definatly recommend booking Casa Girasol.

From the Owner

Jay had lived in various parts of Spain before and knew that Andalucia would be a perfect location to put down permanent roots. Having researched literally hundreds of properties on the Internet, the couple rented in the province of Jaen for six months whilst they thoroughly investigated the area and visited many properties. Casa Girasol in the pretty valley of Las Navas, 3000ft (900m) above sea level, ticked all of the boxes. Set in its own olive grove on the edge of the village, the cortijo had rich soil to grow vegetables and drew water from its own well. Debbie and Jay were well on their way to becoming self sufficient and living the Good Life! Whilst Casa Girasol is tranquil, it is not remote! The roads to the village are easy to drive and the main A339 highway is close by.

From the Owner

Strangely we are not running our guest accommodation to make an immense profit! We merely need enough income to supplement our self sufficient life style. Rains permitting, our aim is to create an organic garden amongst the olive trees - organic in terms of materials as well as looking as natural as possible. As a nod to the hot temperatures in the main summer months, we have a deliciously refreshing above ground plunge pool. Come and visit us soon and see for yourself!
