Shell Cottage Sleeps 4 (2 Bedrooms)

The largest of our 2-bed cottages, Shell’s spirit pays homage to the Shell Gallery that was formerly sited in the west barn of Sharrington Hall. The colours are a sophisticated soft blend of oyster, silver and taupe, and subtle playful shell motifs decorate the house in the form of lampshades and mirrors.

The large kitchen has a hand-built painted kitchen and antique French refectory table and chairs. There is open access to a separate sitting room, with large open fireplace, log burning stove and seating for four.

There are two ensuite double bedrooms. One has a four-poster bed, antique chest, hanging space and grand doors opening into an ensuite bathroom with cast iron roll top bath, WC and basin. The second bedroom offers twin or superking bed with large doors opening into bathroom with WC, basin and walk-in shower tiled in oyster-coloured pebbles.

Shell is a great base from which to head to the seashore van at Morston for a plate of fresh local oysters.

About the property

Cartshed Cottages at Sharrington Hall are both stylish and comfortable. A mix of vintage and contemporary furniture, oak floors, natural materials and Farrow & Ball colour palette create a relaxed mood befitting of the local North Norfolk environment. Each cottage is inspired by something that for us, exudes the essence of North Norfolk – Seal, Salt, Samphire, Sky and Shell. The interior of each cottage evokes its name through the colour palette with which it is designed. Winner, Best UK Rental, i-escape Guest Awards 2013.

Here's what the press say:

"The country crash pads on your Pinterest page, the holiday hideaways of a rainy day's plan." - Conde Nast Traveller

"Soak off stress in the roll top baths before cuddling up in front of the wood-burner" - The Times

"Slate and oak floors, cotton, linen and reindeer skins echoing the sand and ink colours of the walls" - The Guardian

"Slip away to the super-chic Cartshed Cottages" - Marie Claire

"Possibly the most tasteful and stylish self-catering stay in the UK" - Evening Standard

About Stephen King

Our history is in creative industries, one of us is an interior designer and we renovated the Hall and cottages to create our home and holiday cottages for people to get the most out of North Norfolk, a truly special area.

Why Stephen King chose Brinton

The location is ideal for exploring North Norfolk, and are perfect for an experience that is both rural and coastal.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottages are designed to be holiday cottages with only our guests in mind - i.e. they are not someone's second home!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Conde Nast Traveller, Best British Holiday Houses, “The four cottages at Sharrington Hall - Shell, Sky, Seal and Samphire - are like a Farrow & Ball colour chart. Each comes with its own palette of soft greys, pale lilacs and dusty pinks, muted and chic. With painted floorboards, claw-footed baths, deep butler's sinks and French linens on the beds, they're the country crashpads on your Pinterest page, the holiday hideaways of a rainy day's plans.”

The Times, UK’s 50 Best Winter Weekends, “North Norfolk is wonderful in the winter, with its blustery coastal walks under big skies on empty beaches. Set in the grounds of Sharrington Hall, a Jacobean manor house, is this quartet of one- and two-bedroom cottages with a rustic-chic feel including beamed ceilings, oak floors covered in animal skins and a soft palette of greys, lilacs and greens. Soak off stress in the roll-top baths before cuddling up in front of the wood-burner, then wrap up in blankets to stargaze as night falls.”

Marie Claire, “Slip away to the super-chic Cartshed Cottages near Holt, where you’ll find beamed ceilings, wood fires, scented candles, designer four-poster beds – and no children under ten.”

The Guardian, Cool Cottages, "[Seal Cottage] is close to Holkham beach and the seal colony at Blakeney but that’s not where this place gets its name. It’s a reference to the interior colour scheme, with slate and oak floors, cotton, linen and reindeer skins echoing the sand and ink colours of the walls. One of a small collection of cottages in the grounds of a Jacobean manor house, it comes with a private terrace and a custom-built kitchen."

The 2-bed cottages work well for groups of 3/4 or couples and carry couple rates. Outside: The Cartshed Cottages are situated in the grounds of a Jacobean manor house, Sharrington Hall. All cottages have their own terraces to the front, with table and chairs, which gives onto a shared garden. The garden has mature roses and lavender, with laylandii and cherry blossoms opposite the cottages. Salt is slightly separate with private terrace with views of the Hall. Views to the front are across the garden onto open fields, the back are of the Hall and west barn. Salt views are the Hall and green. There is off-road parking.
