About Sara

I have been studying abroad and spending in Scandinavia my first post graduated I came back to my family town and I fell in love with the historical centre and the is why I got some traditional old house which I renewed with my love for colours nature and wood.

My houses have a special touch, they tend to be intimate and romantic, I run them with the help of my sister.

Why Sara chose Castellammare

Very central, in the middle of everything, yet secluded, green and peaceful, as only monasteries can be in Italy. The house has 2 balconies on a Monastery Garden. No more nuns but trees, flowers, birds.

Great location - staircase will keep you fit !

  • 3 of 5

We arrived late at night and were met by Sara at the apartment to be advised that we would not be staying in the booked apartment but instead in a larger, two-terrace apartment above it. We were not told why but didn’t ask as we were led to believe this was an upgrade. We cannot judge if this is true as we didn’t see the booked apartment but the one we stayed in was not as nicely decorated as the one pictured on the website appeared to be.

Sara gave us an interesting back-story on the building and some advice on places to visit and to eat. The two-terrace apartment is certainly huge, with 3 double-beds, but is reached by climbing 4 flights of narrow stairs up from street-level and then another very steep, very narrow, twisted wooden staircase once you get inside the apartment. Anyone a little unfit or infirm would find access very difficult. The two terraces are also split, the upper one accessed by another steep, narrow flight of steps from the lower one which you need to be careful on. The terrace edge is bordered by large potted trees and shrubs. There are bright fabrics and colours around the apartment but the furnishings and equipment are all well-worn – and some of the light switches are confusing.

Having said all that, it was nice to sit out in the fresh air on the terraces and the location is perfect for exploring Palermo - all the interesting places in Kalsa, Vucciria and Capo etc are walkable and there is a lovely square adjacent with church, cafes and dept store with a terrace bar.

We stayed in the flat at the top of the house. Two lovely terraces and plenty of room. Excellent central location and very quiet. Definitely recommended.

Quiet, secure, comfortable and perfect position with helpful host.

  • 5 of 5

The flat was airy and comfortable with everything we needed in safe quiet street near lovely square and old vegetable market. Sara was really helpful in showing us how to keep safe and we had no problems exploring tiny twisting streets. There is so much to do in the city in a week we felt no need to travel further although a bus trip to Monreale was wonderful, and a bus to Castello Zisa well worth while. The station is nearby if you do want to explore the coast. Something new and surprising turns up each day if you keep your eyes open and all the churches are amazing . Everyone is really friendly and helpful. There are delightful backstreet restaurants nearby across via Roma with plates of wonderful vegetable specialities as well as fish , no problems for vegetarians. Beyond the via Maqueda ( usually pedestrianised) and Corso Vittorio Emanuele are good for evening passeggiata, street food ( arancini ), gelato and granite; in our 8 days we had a free puppet festival in a square, a beautiful religious procession ( fireworks doves and bands) and free musical concerts. We enjoyed the Puppet Museum , the Opera House Tour, Piazza Marina Gardens, and do ask Sara about the fabulous private tile museum Stanza al Genio in a small palace - you need to book in and the long guided tour ( in English) is full of fascinating history with time to browse and take photos. It's not in the guide books and worth telling everyone about. There is so much history in every wall in the street once you get your eye in and the graffiti is wonderful - as good as an art gallery. Sharing streets with traffic seems to work even when they look hectic and busy but watch out - it comes both ways when least expected. An evening drink on the roof garden of the big store by the flat is quite an experience. The flat is in a brilliant position and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend it and Sara will make sure you have everything you need - she was so kind( Thank you so much Sara!)

Cenral beautiful location -real italy

  • 5 of 5

On arriving we were not sure - thin alley street - aged a little rugged - up stairs and through a tiny door. Then beautiful little apartment - think vintage - discovering the aquare right next door, lovely markets and great resturants in the street behind - we loved palermo and this little quiet hide away in the mid old town made it more special - sara is lovely and very helpful - if we go back to palermo we want to stay there - book it!!
