Normandy-style gite providing comfortable, clean, homely accommodation for 6. Extremely child-friendly: Spacious mezzanine bedroom/playroom and a fully-equipped play area outside in an enclosed garden. Lots of baby/toddlers' equipment + plenty of toys, books, DVDs + games. There are 2 swimming pools, both a 15-minute drive. Ideal for sightseeing: Honfleur + Deauville on the coast 1-hour away, the D-day beaches slightly further. Several local chateaux (4 within a 20-minute drive) one with an 18-hole golf course. For sport-lovers: cycling, canoeing, kayaking, wind-surfing, fishing, golf, tennis, horse-riding and swimming. Or just relax in the garden or down at the sandy, lakeside beach in Brionne. Stroll in the local shops, mingle with the population, and even practise your French! Walk in the countryside, grab a bargain at a Brocante (Street Fair), play French boules with the locals, or just sip a glass of wine on a terrace café as you watch the world go by.
I fell in love with France as a teenager on a school trip to Dordogne. The following year I came to Normandy on a school exchange trip (my penfriend lived near Brionne) and when I left school I just came over here to improve my French and enjoy life. Over 35 years later I'm still here !
Maddie purchased this cottage in 2008
I have lived in the Brionne area for over 35 years since I left the UK and just love the laid back way of life here in Normandy. There's so much space, too, with fields and forests all around, and the people are very friendly, on the whole.
When I met and married Bruno over 20 years ago I knew I'd made my mind up to stay here for good. We bought our own house then went on to build the holiday homes, hoping to provide comfortable, clean places to stay - just what we like to find when we travel with our two children. We've equipped them with cots, high chairs, stair gates, etc and many toys and games inside and out (swings + playhouse).
We live in the village should you need any advice/help during your stay but we respect our guests' privacy at all times.
Here in the village, it's very quiet and peaceful, but a five-minute drive takes you into Brionne where there are 2 supermarkets, lots of small shops, a twice-weekly market and several bars and restaurants. Not to mention the great lake with its sandy beach, children's play area, barbecues, peddle boats, canoes and mini-golf course.
Honfleur + Deauville are just an hour's drive as is Monet's Garden and Cerza - a great wildlife park. There are several chateaux within a 20-minute drive, one with an 18-hole golf course. Tha landing beaches are about a one and a half hour-drive as is Paris, or just one hour by train. However you'll find plenty of interesting towns and villages a lot closer to home.
We could not have asked for a better holiday. La Maisment easily accommodated parents, grandparents and a busy 2 year old! Maddie and Bruno are excellent hosts providing a lovely welcome pack and invaluable information in a handy folder, about the local area. We did venture to Arromanches, Rouen and Honfleur but also found plenty to do in the local area such as the lake at Brionne, Harcourt, Bec Hellouin and a chateau. The Leclerc supermarket on the road to Bernay was huge and had everything we needed in terms of food shopping!
Our toddler loved the garden, especially the slide and feeding the chickens! La Maisment is great for families. Thank you so much for a brilliant holiday.
We had a fantastic week here. La Maisment has everything you need and is fantastic for keeping kids occupied - heaps of toys / games / books. Great welcome pack and the best homemade jam I have ever tasted!
Surroundings are lovely and it is a great base for exploring places like Honfleur / Deauville / Rouen.
We really enjoyed our stay. The gite has all we needed. Very well equipped and comfortable. Maddie and Bruno really went out of their way to help us.
We would recommend it to all.
The weather helped and there is plenty of garden furniture for sitting out in it, with a drink of course.
We didn't really eat out in the locality so can't comment on that aspect.
We enjoyed the market in Brionne and the car boot sale at Nassandres.
We had a wonderful week staying in La Maisment. This is by far the most comfortable clean gite we have stayed in over many years of renting in France. Maddie and Bruno have thought of everything you could need to make your stay enjoyable whether you are a family or a couple (as we are) including a welcome pack to ensure you get settled in. Aclou is a good central location to visit all of Normandy with the advantage of the local main town of Brionne and all its amenities a 5 min drive away. Nothing to beat sitting in the lovely garden enjoying an aperitif after a day out. We highly recommend a stay though perhaps it would be to our advantage to keep it a secret!
Our stay at La Maisment was very enjoyable, the gite is set in a quiet village with easy access to a range of interesting towns, villages and chateaux. A week wasn't really long enough to tour the surroundings as well as lounge about in the garden. There was a family with two little girls next door and the facilities for young children were superb.Overall we thought La Maisment was well equipped , comfortable and good value. We greatly appreciated Maddie's welcome.
