About the Owner

I fell in love with France as a teenager on a school trip to Dordogne. The following year I came to Normandy on a school exchange trip (my penfriend lived near Brionne) and when I left school I just came over here to improve my French and enjoy life. Over 35 years later I'm still here !

Lovely, comfortable home from home

  • 5 of 5

A very comfortable, warm gîte, very clean and all basics provided. A fabulous new shower unit has recently been fitted which was a nice surprise! Freshly laid eggs from the hens at the end of the garden made the welcome pack just perfect. It was relatively easy to find but is close to main road networks making visiting areas of interest very straight forward. We would definitely recommend it as a holiday home & look forward to staying there again.

Just enjoyed a good stay at Le Batison

  • 4 of 5

A friend and I have just spent a long weekend at Le Batison. The property is situated in a nice village, is clean and well equipped and provides for a very comfortable stay. A short drive ( c 2 miles ) takes you into Brionne where you will find the usual shops including a Carrefour supermarket. We travelled to Normandy for a cycling break and found the neighboring countryside very enjoyable cycling territory.

Great family getaway

  • 5 of 5

What a lovely time we had in both le Batison and la Maisment - plenty of room with our family of four (a 7 and a 9 year old) in one property and granny and grandad right next door in the other. The outdoor area is lovely, we dined al fresco every day of our stay. The children had plenty to play with and the pet goat down next door was a huge hit with our animal loving daughter.

Maddie and Bruno are super hosts, always on hand if needed and so friendly and helpful. We had a super week and wholeheartedly recommend staying in the village of Aclou (very quickly re-named by our children to "Give us a..."). There are lots of interesting things to do and see in Normandy. Our children still talk about the butterfly house in Honfleur - one of the best! It is also a not-too-long-a drive from Calais, which is great when travelling with kids.

The cottages are both spotless and very well equipped and with a bottle of local cider waiting in the fridge when you arrive, what more could you ask for!

Location

From the Owner

I have lived in the Brionne area for over 35 years since I left the UK and just love the laid back way of life here in Normandy. There's so much space, too, with fields and forests all around, and the people are very friendly, on the whole. When I met and married Bruno over 20 years ago I knew I'd made my mind up to stay here for good. We bought our own house then went on to build the holiday homes, hoping to provide comfortable, clean places to stay - just what we like to find when we travel with our two children. We've equipped them with cots, high chairs, stair gates, etc and many toys and games inside and out (swings + playhouse). We live just up the road should you need any help during your stay but we respect our guests' privacy at all times.

Facilities

From the Owner

Here in the village, it's very quiet and peaceful, but a five-minute drive takes you into Brionne where there are 2 supermarkets, lots of small shops, a twice-weekly market and several bars and restaurants. Not to mention the great lake with its sandy beach, children's play area, barbecues, peddle boats, canoes and mini-golf course. Honfleur + Deauville are just an hour's drive as is Monet's Garden and Cerza - a great wildlife park. There are several chateaux within a 20-minute drive, one with an 18-hole golf course. Tha landing beaches are about a one and a half hour-drive as is Paris, or just one hour by train. However you'll find plenty of interesting towns and villages a lot closer to home.

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: We have tried to make our holiday homes just what you would like to find when you go away. All bed linen is provided and beds will be made up for your arrival. You'll also find a "Welcome Starter Pack" including your first breakfast : tea, coffee, milk, sugar, fruit juice, eggs from our hens, bread, butter + homemade jam, toilet paper, salt, pepper, kitchen towels, soap, washing-up liquid, dish-washer + washing machine tablets, charcoal for the barbecue etc. There's lots to do in the area and both holiday homes have plenty of brochures, or you can collect some from the local tourist office in Brionne where there's also free wi-fi. We live just up the road so are on hand if you need any help and we often call at the holiday homes especially in the summer season to water the garden and feed the hens, but we respect our guests' privacy AT ALL TIMES. Outside: The enclosed garden has two parts: a large lawn in front of Le Batison with a fenced pond and another lawn in front of La Maisment. There's a shared play area for children with a play house, swing set and toys and games. French boules for adults : You can also join the locals for a game in front of the village hall most evenings in the summer. Both houses have private patios (one south facing, the other west facing) with barbecues, tables, chairs, sunloungers + sunshades. Next to the secure car park is the hen run and feeding them proves to be a big hit with children. Help yourselves to fruit (raspberries, peaches, apples, kiwis) and we'll provide you with tomatoes + cucumber in season, and fresh eggs when our hens oblige...
