'The Old Coach House' what a gem! Thank you Pam and Richard for our welcome pack of tea, coffee milk and wine! We had a wonderful time during our 9 days here, so much to see and do. Wonderful walks and places of interest with lots of pub/restaurants to choose from, our favourite being The Blacksmiths Arms at Westow. Your cottage is so perfect, very cosy and well-presented. We will be back! Mick and Chris, Whitstable, Kent.

Many thanks Pam for such a warm welcome. Your cottage is lovely and cosy and you have obviously given great thought to what your guests require- well done you!

Must 'dos' are Eden Camp, Castle Howard, National Railway Museum and steam train to Whitby. The moors are breathaking and have fabulous walks suitable for all.

This is our first visit to Yorkshire and we can't wait to come and stay with you again. Simon and Heather, South Wales.

Your cottage and your welcome have been greatly appreciated! We looked for something cosy, quaint and with all mod cons - and found it here with you! The area is magical and you even laid on the most perfect weather so views were fully appreciated! Very many thanks. Carolyn and Alistair, Surrey

Thank you Pam and Richard for the very warm welcome, the wine and provisions. Such a kind thought and much appreciated. We love Yorkshire - what a wonderful county! The perfect base and oasis to discover a little of the stunning area. We enjoyed Whitby, Scarborough, Robin Hood's Bay, but the highlights must surely be the steam train from Pickering, the drive over the moors, Dalby Forest and Eden Camp. Pam and Blair, Northampton

Had a fantastic week in your superb cottage. We did a little bit of everything from walking trips, York by train (good tip!) visit to Whitby and Scarborough to revive childhood and young family memories. Weather great and food excellent at The Jolly Farmers! Norman and Brenda, West Lothian.

Fantastic cottage and brilliant location! There is so much to do and a lot we didn't have time to explore so will definitely be back! The cottage was a great base with everything we needed. Thank you for all your local knowledge and tips for where to go and how to get there. We're off to Dalby Forest now - hope to visit again next year. Simon and Dee, Loughborough.

Another wonderful stay for New Year! This is the third time we have stayed here and it never loses it appeal. The cottage was immaculate on arrival and very cosy with all the little Christmas touches. Nicola and Mark, County Durham

Cosy and comfortable - excellent value

  • 5 of 5

The coach house was beautifully furnished but also very comfortable and homely. There was everything we needed for the weekend and the owner was very friendly and helpful. If you want a cosy retreat in the York countryside you won't find anywhere better!

Wonderful peaceful location - perfect

  • 5 of 5

We had only a couple of days stay but thoroughly enjoyed the time spent at the cottage, every detail had been thought of we couldn't have wished for more, just perfect for the two of us plus a delightful country pub opposite. The location is ideal for exploring the area also easy for getting to the coast, we can highly recommend your property and we would love to stay again. You could not have been more helpful. Thank you for everything. Best wishes Tom and Denise Blackburn

Exactly as described, cosy and perfect for two to relax in.

  • 5 of 5

Only there for a short stop, but it did allow us to 'stop the world for a day and get off'. Completely relaxing and well furnished for the two of us to find our space. Parking was dedicated and off the road, not that there is much traffic to concern oneself about. A quiet village with a short drive to local towns, where all the amenities are available. Centralised; close to the coast, the moors and the dales alike - choose your part of Yorkshire.

Lovely cottage for two in nice village

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our 3 day stay in this cosy cottage. The pub nearby is full of character with real ales, open fires and candlit tables, although no evening meals. Location is good for exploring the Wolds and has easy access to nearest shops in Malton. Cottage is well equipped for two.

Owner's Response: We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay in Burythorpe and that you were able to spend some time in the newly refurbished pub which is open all day and is now serving wonderful home-cooked lunches. Excellent evening meals are also served at The Jolly Farmers in Leavening which is only 1 mile from the cottage and The Blacksmiths Arms in Westow which is 2 miles from the cottage.

A lovely and quaint small property with lots of character and ideally situated for getting to lots of places if you don't want to stay in the hubbub of York. Pam is a very helpful host with lots of local knowledge.

Comfortable cottage in small Yorkshire village perfect for 2 people.

  • 4 of 5

This cottage is like the Tardis. Much bigger on the inside than it first appears. Small compact kitchen with built-in oven, hob, dishwasher and fridge. Shower room with recently installed shower. Spacious lounge diner with 2 very comfortable two-seater sofas. The large bedroom with king size bed is upstairs. The only recommendation we would give is to add a small plug-in night light as its pitch black when descending the stairs in the middle of the night if you don't want to switch on the light. There is a summer house which we didn't use as we went in November. The cottage is situated in a very quiet small village with a pub almost opposite which will be serving hot food from the New Year. All of East Yorkshire is easily accessible and its only 14 miles from the nearest Park and Ride for York. Perfect for 2.

Owner's Response: We are so pleased that you found the cottage cosy, comfortable and welcoming. Something we seek to achieve for all our guests. Thank you for recommending a small plug- in night light at the top of the stairs which avoids switching on a light if needing to descend the stairs during the night. This has now been done which will give future guests the choice.

Further Details:

Nestling in the pretty village of Burythorpe on the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds and ideally located for the North Yorkshire Moors, this Grade II listed detached former Coach House has been sympathetically converted and now offers lovely accommodation in a peaceful environment. This charming cottage is very well presented and tastefully furnished to a high standard, making a cosy retreat for couples. Dalby Forest on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park offers amazing Cycle Trails to suit all abilities as well as walks throughout the forest area. We are also located only a few miles from where world renowned artist David Hockney produced his vivid pictures of the Yorkshire landscape for his 'A Bigger Picture ' exhibition at the Royal Academy'. The World of James Herriot is also situated near Thirsk which is only a 40 minute drive from the village.

After a day walking and exploring this unspoilt rural region, you can relax in the lovely summerhouse or dine al fresco. Burythorpe has a renowned pub/restaurant and the market town of Malton (4 miles) offers a variety of shops, restaurants and a farmers market on the last Saturday of every month.

The cottage is situated in an historic area with the following places of interest all within easy driving distance - Castle Howard, Nunnington Hall, city of York, North Yorkshire Moors Railway to ’Heartbeat’ country departing from Pickering and the seaside resorts on the Yorkshire Coast.
