Guestbook comments from the owner

'The Old Coach House' what a gem! Thank you Pam and Richard for our welcome pack of tea, coffee milk and wine! We had a wonderful time during our 9 days here, so much to see and do. Wonderful walks and places of interest with lots of pub/restaurants to choose from, our favourite being The Blacksmiths Arms at Westow. Your cottage is so perfect, very cosy and well-presented. We will be back! Mick and Chris, Whitstable, Kent.

Many thanks Pam for such a warm welcome. Your cottage is lovely and cosy and you have obviously given great thought to what your guests require- well done you!

Must 'dos' are Eden Camp, Castle Howard, National Railway Museum and steam train to Whitby. The moors are breathaking and have fabulous walks suitable for all.

This is our first visit to Yorkshire and we can't wait to come and stay with you again. Simon and Heather, South Wales.

Your cottage and your welcome have been greatly appreciated! We looked for something cosy, quaint and with all mod cons - and found it here with you! The area is magical and you even laid on the most perfect weather so views were fully appreciated! Very many thanks. Carolyn and Alistair, Surrey

Thank you Pam and Richard for the very warm welcome, the wine and provisions. Such a kind thought and much appreciated. We love Yorkshire - what a wonderful county! The perfect base and oasis to discover a little of the stunning area. We enjoyed Whitby, Scarborough, Robin Hood's Bay, but the highlights must surely be the steam train from Pickering, the drive over the moors, Dalby Forest and Eden Camp. Pam and Blair, Northampton

Had a fantastic week in your superb cottage. We did a little bit of everything from walking trips, York by train (good tip!) visit to Whitby and Scarborough to revive childhood and young family memories. Weather great and food excellent at The Jolly Farmers! Norman and Brenda, West Lothian.

Fantastic cottage and brilliant location! There is so much to do and a lot we didn't have time to explore so will definitely be back! The cottage was a great base with everything we needed. Thank you for all your local knowledge and tips for where to go and how to get there. We're off to Dalby Forest now - hope to visit again next year. Simon and Dee, Loughborough.

Another wonderful stay for New Year! This is the third time we have stayed here and it never loses it appeal. The cottage was immaculate on arrival and very cosy with all the little Christmas touches. Nicola and Mark, County Durham

A lovely and quaint small property with lots of character and ideally situated for getting to lots of places if you don't want to stay in the hubbub of York. Pam is a very helpful host with lots of local knowledge.

Comfortable cottage in small Yorkshire village perfect for 2 people.

This cottage is like the Tardis. Much bigger on the inside than it first appears. Small compact kitchen with built-in oven, hob, dishwasher and fridge. Shower room with recently installed shower. Spacious lounge diner with 2 very comfortable two-seater sofas. The large bedroom with king size bed is upstairs. The only recommendation we would give is to add a small plug-in night light as its pitch black when descending the stairs in the middle of the night if you don't want to switch on the light. There is a summer house which we didn't use as we went in November. The cottage is situated in a very quiet small village with a pub almost opposite which will be serving hot food from the New Year. All of East Yorkshire is easily accessible and its only 14 miles from the nearest Park and Ride for York. Perfect for 2.

Owner's Response: We are so pleased that you found the cottage cosy, comfortable and welcoming. Something we seek to achieve for all our guests. Thank you for recommending a small plug- in night light at the top of the stairs which avoids switching on a light if needing to descend the stairs during the night. This has now been done which will give future guests the choice.

Welcoming, cosy, well equipped. Quiet and lucky to have some clear night skies

Pam gave us a warm welcome and showed us around this lovely coach house. Warm, well equipped and ideal for the two of us. We have no complaints, everything was working and plenty of local and regional information to browse through while enjoying the Sauvignon Pam and Richard kindly supplied. Bed very comfy indeed and very quiet. The Bay Horse across the road had just opened for drinks to start with but they will be bringing in menus soon. Very friendly, very good beer and a beautiful job in restoring this old pub. Helmesly Rieveaulx well worth a visit as well of course York. Park and ride from Monks Cross at £2.50 each will save you the nightmare of finding somewhere to park. Many signposted walks in Dalby forest. £8.00 toll entry but well worth it for the huge open space and views that you can enjoy all day. Week tickets available also and plenty of tracks for biking. Stamford Bridge nearby, the last battle Harold won before he had to head down to Hastings, houses a lovely malt whiskey shop, a show house for Whiskeys.co.uk and a guy who knows all there is to know about whiskeys. A beautiful area and our thanks to Pam and Richard for letting us share their lovely cottage so that we could explore and enjoy this part of England.

Pam was a lovely host and very knowledgable about the local area. The cottage was just as lovely and the perfect size for our little family of three. We were attending a wedding at Sandburn Hall which was less than 20 minutes away.

Deceptively specious, cosy little cottage in a lovely setting

We had a fantastic stay in the cottage. Pam was a lovely host, who was happy to help and provided lots of useful bits of information and advice when we needed it but left us alone to relax and enjoy the holiday.

Burythorpe is only a few miles from Malton and a great base to do lots of things. We had a great time walking, cycling and shopping locally and in and around York (25 min by train). Steam trains from Pickering to Whitby for a day out to the seaside and before we knew it, 2 weeks were over far too soon.

Just perfect!

Another very enjoyable stay at this lovely cottage. It really did have everything I could possibly require - even down to a pearl headed pin for my wedding buttonhole! I was desperate not having brought a pin with me and there in the bathroom cabinet was a small sewing kit - day saved. The weather was beautiful so sitting in the summer house was just perfect with tons of butterflies at the door around the buddleia bush. Very peaceful and quiet, thank-you.
