Gorgeous Stylish Villa In Convenient Yet Quiet Corner Of Kalkan Old Town

Updated: 30-Jul-2016
Villa in Kalkan Old Town, Mediterranean Region, Turkey - In The Best Location, The Old Town, Quiet Yet Within 5 Mins Walk Of All Conveniences And The Beach

This lovely villa has recently had a style upgrade. It has always been well-loved but now this charming villa boasts a new softer colour palette with whitewashed wood in the bedrooms and a lovely white wooden kitchen. It has a simply stunning HUGE FURNISHED ROOF TERRACE with fridge/sink/lounge seating/sunbathing/360deg views. Rooms are situated over 2 floors giving generosity of light and space and the open-plan living area is full of light and windows. It is such a treat to also enjoy so many outside spaces – the ottoman area for sundowners, the shaded 'al fresco' table for breakfast, the indoor dining table for dinner, early morning coffee for two on the master bedroom terrace or star gazing late into the night, and drinks around the pool at any time! All bedrooms either have private balconies or a door to the private pool, the kitchen opens directly onto the pool terrace. The antique pinks of the pool terrace and internal mosaic floors and the thick hedges of oleander, fragrant thyme and trailing bougainvillea complete the picture of perfect place for your holiday. All these enviable features and yet so close to the beloved old town of Kalkan, step out of the door and within minutes you can be at your favourite restaurant or be tripping down to the beach for the day through the winding back streets of town. Heaven!

About the Owner

I fell in love with Kalkan in 2001 on a family holiday but was unable to return until several years later by which time I was single and looking to make my mark on new territory! I met the right people to help guide me to my first Turkish property purchase in 2004.Completion of the house I call 'Home' at Club Patara was on Christmas day, what a fabulous present!Year on year the pull to Kalkan got stronger and by 2008 I had purchased penthouse Ada Manzara, and then Ottoman Garden completed my trio of properties. I was then working in Kalkan. Many years ago during my first holidays to Turkey I experienced a very strong vision of myself sitting on fuchsia-coloured cushions in a white villa-and look what happened! No fuchsia cushions but I got the white villa and orange cushions.Dream come true?

Top location in Kalkan

  • 5 of 5

I researched Kalkan thoroughly before we went as we wanted to be close to the town as we had 6 teenagers with us! We were not disappointed. Absolutely great location. Five minutes walk in to old town, three minutes from very reasonably priced Carrefour supermarket.

Villa was very clean, spacious and very well furnished.

Pool cleaned every day.

Amazing roof terrace with great views over Kalkan, which we used every evening chilling out on the comfy sofas playing cards.

The kids loved it.

Although the pool area had no view and feels overlooked, we felt that this was a small price to pay.

Kalkan is INCREDIBLY steep, and we felt that although some of the properties further up the hill would have had all round better views, it would have been a real hike into town, and a definite taxi ride back. We didn't even bother to hire a car as everything was on our doorstep.

Definitely recommend it for people with older kids who want some freedom.

Kalkan felt very safe and is beautiful.

Could go on more but hopefully you get the picture

Owner's Response: Thanks so much to the France family for a resoundingly positive and complimentary appraisal of my Villa Ottoman Garden. Your review extols all its virtues perfectly! Sounds like you all had a GREAT holiday and spent plenty of time on the roof terrace enjoying those SPECTACULAR views of Kalkan. It was great to meet you all and sounds like you'll be back, look forward to catching up with you again then! Stay in touch....

We adored villa ottoman garden. It is exceptionally well located three minutes from the buzzy old town and harbour and fabulous restaurants but yet sooo quiet at night. The pool is delicious and the roof top terrace is just stunning with views across the bay. The interior of the villa is spacious, well equipped, user friendly and very tastefully decorated. We have high expectations and they were met! The owner is extremely responsive and provided great assistance booking transfers etc and the ' guy on the ground' who checks you in etc was great. Great for a family break or a group holiday. So much to do in the area too with boat trips , beach clubs, beaches galore, gorges, shopping....Highly recommended - just don't book for when we want to go again!

From the Owner

Kalkan is simply the most beautiful coastal spot on the Turkish Mediterranean, sometimes dubbed the Turkish Riviera and Kalkan is its jewel. It is definitely worth the hour or so's journey from Dalaman. As you climb the approach road your anticipation heightens and then suddenly the panorama of the sweeping bay of Kalkan comes into sight with the majestic backdrop of the Taurus mountains and Mouse and Snake islands shimmering in the distance. Simply breathtaking! There is so much to do and see in the area, sandy beaches, historic sights, beach clubs, untouched rural villages, water sports, boat trips, great shopping, local crafts on offer,an incredible array of excellent restaurants at various price levels, the choice is endless. You’ll need to return to get through the list.

Activity and Interests

Car: not necessary

The well-loved town beach is 5 minutes walk through the Old Town and the same distance to the beautiful harbour full of gulets and fishing boats, with all its array of attractive restaurants and cafes.Town beach is pebbly but shallow enough for children to play in but deeper for adults as you swim out further. One of the town's beach clubs is within walking distance as is the shuttle boat point for departure to the many beach clubs dotted around the bay.Sandy Patara Beach is a 20 mins drive away

Dalaman airport is nearest and 1 hr 40 mins from Kalkan. It is not essential to hire a car but it is possible to have one delivered to the airport if you choose. There are many Kalkan companies who will do transfers to and from the airport. Currently it will cost £60 each way for 1-3 persons. Antalya airport is 2 1/2 hrs away. Please enquire if you require help in making these arrangements.

The village of Islamlar famous for trout farms and fish restaurants is 20 minutes drive from Kalkan, the county town of Kas to see ancient Antiphellos takes 25 minutes, Fethiye to visit the ghost town of Kayakoy about 50 mins, Patara ancient Lycian site 20 mins, the pretty Greek Island of Meis by boat from Kas about half an hour, the untouched villages of Bezirgan and Saribelen 20 mins, Simena the sunken city about an hour by road. Saklikent Gorge is a fun activity trip about 30 minutes away.

Further Details:

Kalkan is a charming former fishing village which used to be called kalamaki before the turks changed places with the greeks! It has a very special atmosphere especially in the evenings when everyone is drawn to the town by the irresistibly delicious aromas coming from the huge choice of restaurants offering everything from modern to traditional cuisine in all price ranges. For your shopping convenience there are several supermarkets about 10 mins walk from villa and other supermarkets - yali, smile, kartin, tesko, bim are about 10 mins walk as are the butchers and greengrocers. The banks and post office are also 10 minutes walk away -Carrefour is the nearest, just round the corner, Kipa, Migros, Yali and A101, Bim is a bit further. Restaurants, cafes, boutiques, jewellery shops, carpet bazaars, tailors are all to be found in the maze of cobbled streets of the old town. There really is so much to do in and around kalkan that guests return time and time again to do what they missed last time! There are 8 beach clubs where you can enjoy everything 'on tap' from lazy lunches and drinks brought to your sunbed, to diving into the mediterranean or simply gazing at the unendingly beautiful scenery of the taurus mountains and the majestic sweep of kalkan bay and the harbour. The area is rich in historical sites, pinara, xanthos, letoon, patara and more. A lazy day at sea on one of the many day boats is a must do activity for swimming, snorkelling, bbq lunch cooked on the rocks with the boat moored up nearby and meeting new friends over a glass of wine on deck - bliss! White water rafting, horse-riding on Patara beach, village tours, a visit to a fish farm at islamlar, a day trip to the Greek island of Meis - all these and more trips can be organised by tour agencies in the town.

From the Owner

Ottoman Garden is very special because of its excellent location, convenient yet quiet, just outside Kalkan Old Town conservation area. It can sleep 10 but is often enjoyed by just one or two couples or a family. The downstairs bedroom offers a little more privacy away from upstairs bedrooms and appeals to grandparents with family groups and has its own access door direct to the pool. The pool is great for young children as it is not too deep and has shallow steps, great for those early attempts at swimming! The 4 areas, pool, villa,Ottoman area and new 2014 furnished roof terrace mean everyone can find their own space. There's a well-equipped kitchen for experimenting with local fresh produce, and sundowners and stargazing from the master bed balcony and roof terrace are a must!Irresistible!
