About Sam Colborne

Having grown up in Cornwall, it was only natural to come back as an adult to have my own family. I work locally, and know how much the area has to offer. My wife, two daughters and I love our home, and we are delighted to share it with you.

Why Sam Colborne chose Mawgan-in-Pydar

The North Coast of Cornwall is a spectacularly beautiful area to live in! With dozens of beaches within striking distance, it offers a great range of activities from relaxing walks to extreme sports, such as surfing or coasteering. It is possible to be on a quiet cove one day, cycling the Camel Trail the next and exploring the tropical biome at the Eden Project on another, depending on your interests. Cornwall is at its best in the summer, with fresh air, cleans seas and great locally produced food available in numerous restaurants. Whilst seemingly remote, Cornwall is well connected to all areas of the UK via road, rail and air links.

What makes this cottage unique

Lilac Cottage is a cosy, comfortable cottage in which one can unwind after a day on the beach. There are several beaches. (In fact you could visit a different beach every day of a seven day visit and never drive more than 5 miles to get to them!) Whilst retaining several of its original features, Lilac Cottage is modern and well equipped for visitors.

Fantastic house in a wonderful location - exceeded all expectations

  • 5 of 5

The house exceeded all expections, there was everything that we needed and more. The photos cannot do the house justice - it's incredibly spacious, comfortable and very welcoming. Lovely to come back to after a day on the beach.

It is ideally located for walking to the beach at Mawgan Porth or Watergate Bay. Stunning coastal walks too.

We all had a fantastic time and have some very special memories of Lilac Cottage and our holiday in Cornwall.

Lovely seaside cottage

  • 4 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday here - it's like staying in a friend's house rather than a standard holiday let, and our two girls (5 & 7) in particular loved the the decor, books and gardens. The cottage is old, but has all the facilities you would need (towels would have been nice though). We were very comfortable inside, with enough space for visitors too. The local village is quite small, but the pub is friendly and well run, and the food was good when we ate there. Mawgan Porth is the local beach and very good - it's not an easy to walk , but 3 mins by car, and the property is within reach of many other great beaches. On the two wet days we went to Newquay and the Eden project which are both a fairly easy drive. Overall we were delighted to stay here - it's a genuine historic Cornish cottage, and a great location for a holiday. We will try to book again when we return to Cornwall.

Wonderful, cosy cottage

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed staying here. There is absolutely everything you could ever need for a family holiday, including childrens cutlery and plastic plates/bowls, stacks of books, fantastic wifi... The list is endless! This cottage is well situated - just a short 10 minute drive from Newquay and right next doir to watergate Bay, a beautiful although very busy beach. Inside Lilac cottage is more spacious than portrayed in the photos, with a huge kitchen/diner. plenty of space for clothes and luggage, a secure bike shed, quiet surroundings and close-by access to the north Cornwall coastal path. My children loved it here. In fact, they were as happy staying in as going out!! It was a real adventure for them. Can't recommend this property and it's owner enough.

Beautiful cottage with lots and lots of character, plenty of room. For 5 people, so much so you could of even squeezed an extra bed in one of the rooms and a sofa bed in the downstairs living room there was that much space. My son particular enjoyed playing the piano in the living room as he plays the keyboard already. Very cosy at night. Location is excellent for everything! Slap in the middle of two awesome beaches with amenities at both. Very convenient pub just round the corner, serving excellent food and drink. I can't fault it. Garden is compact but not a problem as the beaches are so near and you stay on them until late, so no need to spend time in it. Does have seating in the back a swing and seating in The front as well which is a nice sunny spot to have a cup of tea in. Very pretty garden. We would defo recommend it, Only downfall for me is having such a big family only one part of our family would be able to stay, need two lilac cottages lol!
