Top Traveller Review

About the Owner

We are both Polish living in The UK. My wife comes from Masurian Lake district and we found this property on one of our visits there, we loved it after seeing the photograph of a beautiful stone barn in an advertisement. We were determined to purchase the property straight away. Derelict farm house and outbuildings have taken many years and many holidays to refurbish. Guests accommodation have been completed, our house which is completely separate from the cottages stil requires some finishing touches.

Great Holidays

  • 5 of 5

We spend two wonderful weeks at this cottage in Mierki, enjoying the peace and quiet of the beautiful countryside, the many lakes, the sights and the cottage itself ... Our kids loved the comfortable room they shared, the yard, the barn, the swing, the bonfire and the many activities, like horse riding, kayaking, swimming etc...

We are very grateful to the owners for being so kind and helpful!!!

Entspannung, Ruhe, Natur

  • 5 of 5

Relaxen, Ausspannen, Abschalten-Best holidays ever

  • 5 of 5

Location

From the Owner

This used to be an old farm located on the verge of the village Mierki just by the forest wall, walking distance from the lake and local holiday resort where swimming, water pedal boats and other activities are available. Our children love horse riding provided by a few local farms, some of them are run by qualified riding instructors and horse breeders, and it all happens in the beautiful unspoilt countryside where a competent horse rider can roam freely by himself. The surrounding forests and lakes are easy to fall in love with. It is secluded, but close to all local conveniences, shops, restaurants etc.

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

Freely accessible hotel/leisure centre by the lake with private beach, indoor swimming pool, restaurant and other holiday facilities are a walking distance from the cottages.

Beaches on massive “Pluszne” lake are a short drive away. See Google satellite view.

Travel:

Arriving from Warszawa the cottages are approximately 190km north. Travel along the E-77 towards Gdansk turning east at Olsztynek onto route 58 towards Jedwabno. We are located 10 mins from Olsztynek along this road past the village of Mierki.

Distances:

The nearest town Olsztynek is 4km away with its supermarkets and restaurants and open air folk museum “Skansen Olsztynek”. Olsztyn which is the major town in the area with its beautiful old town and medieval castle is 30km away. The Castle of the Teutonic Order in Malbork, 130km away, is the largest castle in the world by surface area, and the largest brick building in Europe.

Facilities

From the Owner

We have converted an old stone barn into two self-contained semidetached cottages, with all modern comforts and old fashioned cosy fireplaces. There is a lot of space outside for barbecues, for children to play, or just a lazy afternoon outside in the sun and fresh air. Masuria and the Masurian Lake District are known in Polish as the "land of a thousand lakes." From our 16 year old daughter’s point of view this is one of the most beautiful places on earth. The country side is unspoilt and you can lose yourself in the surrounding forests. Go for a walk and you might stumble upon a deer, wild boar, storks nesting and countless lakes.
