Lower Dean farmhouse is big, spacious and comfortable and benefits from the fact that the upstairs was completely redecorated just two years ago. It is situated in the heart of the hamlet with front and rear gardens so you can get the sun all day!
But Lower Dean is fabulous for year-round holidays as the large wood burning stove provides a wonderful welcome when you return from wintery walks! And the comfortable dining room makes it a great place to come and celebrate Christmas or the New Year!
There is private parking for up to three cars and a separate entrance.
Lower Dean is a great base from which to explore the wonders of Exmoor and the stunning North Devon coastline, with spectacular walks right from the front door. In addition, if you fancy exploring the countryside on horseback, then the riding stables are right next door!
Lower Dean is the major wing of an imposing and very beautiful stone Devon farmhouse. Ideal for riding holidays in Exmoor National Park, the house has bedrooms and bathrooms that have recently been completely redecorated to a very high standard and the large sitting room has a wood burning stove for cosy winter days! Lower Dean has a lawned front garden and the use of a larger back garden with garden furniture - ideal for 'sundowners' in the summer. The small BHS/ABRS accredited riding stables next door offers lessons as well as wonderful hacks across the Exmoor countryside. Riding holidays and short breaks are available on request.
My husband and I live with our two children (11 and 13), three dogs, one cat, ten chickens and 2 ducks. We run a green energy company from our office on the farm, developing anaerobic digesters and wind turbines. I am also a cookery writer and have written two cookery books. We enjoy outdoor pursuits such as walking on the moors, riding, surfing and fishing, as well as swimming, tennis and skiing. My children are very active and constantly on their bikes or on the trampoline.
My husband is a DIY demon which is fantastic around the house. I enjoy my garden although I am no expert. I tend to concentrate on my vegetable garden and we are lucky enough to have a wide selection of fruit trees on our property.
Dogs are welcome, we charge £20 per dog per week.

Excellent family accommodation. We were 8 in total including a baby and bedrooms were ideal. Nephew and wife stayed in Mini Dean which was very convenient. Well equipped and everything you need for family holiday, including beach items in Ashley`s large shed as well as sports stuff. Dogs also made welcome. We were able to enjoy the holiday despite the weather. Stables next door and two of the girls enjoyed a riding lesson.
Would highly recommend Black Venus Pub at Chalcombe and Squires Fish and Chip restaurant at Braunton
We had a wonderful week staying in this beautiful house in a small village tucked away in North Devon. The owners next door are lovely and very welcoming and we enjoyed the close proximity to the riding stables for lessons and a quick hello to the ponies when we got back from the beach. The location is ideal, a short drive to spectacular beaches, lots of family friendly activities and scenic walks. The house was very well stocked with masses of crockery and cutlery, pots, pans and serving bowls and the bedrooms were spacious and peaceful. The whole property is decorated to a very high spec and we even managed to fit 11 people around the dining table for one meal! We would highly recommend this property to anyone looking to enjoy the beauty and fun of North Devon from a peaceful and comfortable base.
