About Robin Moore

Retiring after nearly 30 years of owning award-winning pub-restaurants in the UK and with our children all grown-up with good careers, it was time to realise a long-held dream! We bought our home in 2009 and after renovations including new roofs on the house and The Rose Barn, we decided to offer holiday lets.

Our first year in 2012 saw the Barn busy for 13 weeks which was a great start. We really enjoyed our first year and met some lovely guests. We have a veg garden where we grow ingredients for our menus and we also have our own chickens for eggs. We have tried to make you a home from home.

In our spare time (not much) we enjoy walking, belong to two art clubs, and exhibit locally, attend French Lessons and Robin, as well as singing in 3 local choirs also teaches singing.

Robin Moore purchased this cottage in 2009

Why Robin Moore chose Genouillac

In the UK we lived in Fenland in East Anglia. We love pastoral scenery and in particular this area with its rolling hills and valleys and lovely deciduous woodland was a major improvement on the flatlands of Cambridgeshire. The climate is temperate and although it can be beautifully warm in the summer, it doesn't normally get to "scorchio" levels. Winters are short and despite the odd cold snap much more bearable than in the UK.

It feels remotely rural but in fact we're close to many local amenities - 10 minutes to local supermarkets and within easy driving distance on good quiet roads to all of South West France. The proximity of Limoges airport, only 35 minutes away now that the Chabanais bypass has been recently completed, means we can fly to visit family in Ely in only four hours door to door (on a good day!)

What makes this cottage unique

You'll benefit from the attention to detail that 30 years in the hospitality industry has taught us. We offer simple, comfortable clean facilities and we try to provide the equipment and comfort that you'll need on holiday - even an electric blanket!

For those of you for whom cooking the local ingredients is part of your holiday fun, you'll be pleased to know that the kitchen is well-equipped. We've all been to those places with nothing but a bent teaspoon and a blunt kitchen knife - so this time you'll not need to clog the car up with your favourite personal cooking equipment!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Lovely cottage, Lovely hosts, peaceful and tranquil location. An ideal place to unwind. Steve & Rona, Lichfield, March 2014

Fantastic Gite! Comfy bed and always a hot shower! Hosts are everything you would want a host to be - nothing is too much trouble! Would recommend to anyone for a relaxing and comforting holiday. Just lovely! Vikki & Chris, Wirral, September 2013

Thank you for being such warm, wonderful and helpful hosts. Well done with the lovely food. We hope to see you again as guests or neighbours!

Sue & Steve, Stafford, December 2012

Our hosts Robin & Heather have been lovely and helpful. The highlight of our week, apart from the wonderful weather, was the market in Piegut and Brantome which was truly idyllic. We hope to return to the area again in 2013.

A great place to relax

  • 5 of 5

Heather and Robin provide a fantastic place to relax in a traditional French style.

It is so warm and cosy you easily forget the pressure of life and slow down to a pace that has been long forgotten. The cottage is only 10 minutes away from the shops but it is another world. We visited the small villages in the area in the mornings , buying our food fresh form the local shops and spending the afternoons sipping wine ,talking to the locals and eating slowly into the night.Bliss. The hosts are a delightful couple who provide help and advice when required but never pressed... A place not to miss.

Great stay with really helpful hosts!

  • 5 of 5

We selected Rose Barn because of its location. We had a really pleasant stay in Robin and Heather's property which was an ideal size for us. All the facilities were as described. They were very helpful in recommending restaurants and places to visit locally, but were not always hanging round disturbing us - they got the balance just right. We'll be back and use the property again in the future.

Rural France Idyll

  • 5 of 5

Set in a rural idyll and ideal for discovering the surrounding “La France Profonde” La Grange aux Roses is a comfortable and very well appointed gîte. Apart from the idyllic location and welcoming hosts we were also particularly pleased with the very comfortable bed and instant hot water (with decent water pressure). We would definitely return here.

An absolutely wonderful, romantic hideaway tucked in the corner of the Charente!

Robin and Heather are great hosts and very attentive,we had everything we could ask for.Lovely cottage,to stay in,the bed was very comfy, and the shower was more like a power shower,no trickling of water at all!

Typically french, and a great location for many things as the chateaux, french markets and close to the cities of Angouleme and Limoges.Would recommend this to others in a heartbeat for a quiet, romantic getaway from it all!!
