Cosy, well-equipped, 2 bedroom cottage close to the Yorkshire Dales National Park

Lodge End is a charming cottage, in the centre of Cononley. It has one double bedroom and one twin room. There is a large light open plan lounge and dining area and a well equipped fully fitted modern kitchen and bathroom. In recent years it has been modernised resulting in a stylish relaxing cottage providing an ideal base for a country get away, walking or sightseeing. The front of the cottage has impressive panoramic views of the Airedale valley with its meadows, woodlands and heathland, while the back of the cottage receives a lot of sun and overlooks mature fruit trees and the hills beyond. Curlew, Lapwing and Tawny Owl are just three birds that can often be seen or heard from the back door. Lodge End is very well located for travelling by rail, bus, and car. It is also close to long distance walking routes, national and regional cycling routes, bridleways and the Leeds-Liverpool canal. We provide freshly cut flowers from our garden in the cottage to welcome you when you arrive.

About the Owner

We are a retired couple who live in England and have family in Cononley. We love the outdoors especially walking. Through our daughter's insider knowledge (she works in the Yorkshire Dales National Park) we have enjoyed a wealth of new walks and experiences off the beaten track in the Yorkshire Dales. We think this area is a little known gem and since we can only use the cottage 10 weeks a year we would like to share it with others.

This has been a lovely base for our first (but not last) visit to the Dales. The cottage, done with so much thought, has been a perfect base and we will come back again for another stay. Very clean, well equipped cottage. I can't think of anything it didn't have. The station is really close if you want to leave the car behind (car parking was our only problem).

It's a shame it will no longer be up for rental as it is a little gem

A Brilliant Awesome place to stay

A lovely cosy cottage on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales. The owner was really helpful and we felt very welcome. The cottage was clean, well maintained and had a nice yard at the back just right for a Gin & Tonic in the afternoons!

Cononley is a nice little village with a shop / post office, two decent pubs and a lovely play area. It was a good base from which to explore - Skipton is only six minutes away by train and has lots of shops / restaurants, there's a nearby Steam Railway, Bolton Abbey made a wonderful day out and there are fabulous walks around the dales (eg Malham Cove).

All in all a lovely cottage in which to relax, set in beautiful surroundings. Thoroughly recommended.

A hidden Yorkshire gem

A comfortable, characterful, extremely well equipped cottage. Well placed for exploring the surrounding area - in all directions. Very clean and well maintained. Had a bit of trouble with the keysafe, but got there in the end. Would recommend this cottage to anyone. Only problem is parking - some days we were parked some distance away. Can recommend Brody's pizzeria in Skipton for a good Italian meal. Would recommend Fountains Abbey, rather than overpriced, extremely busy Bolton Abbey. Also Malham, Wensleydale and Gargrave to visit and walk, Gargrave has a particularly nice tea room tucked away off the main street. Delicious bakewell tart and freshly brewed coffee

A great cottage in a very convenient location

We stayed for a week in this lovely cottage. It was exactly as the photos indicated and we had plenty of space. The owners also very kindly organised for us to keep our bikes in their shed.

The location of the cottage is really super. The village is on a train line between Bradford and Skipton which means there are regular trains in both directions. The trains run late enough that we went into Skipton for dinner several evenings (about 8 mins by train). It also meant we could use the trains to start and end walks/bike rides at convenient locations. The landscape is absolutely stunning and provides access to both easy walks (e.g. along the canal or valley) as well as much more challenging routes.

The village has two pubs which were both very welcoming and convenient. The local shop also provided a good range of basics (including a very good selection of ales!)

The cottage itself has everything needed for a week. It was clean and well-maintained. The owners contacted us promptly on booking and departure.

We would certainly recommend this property to friends and relatives.

Excellent and comfortable cottage

Our second visit to this lovely and comfortable cottage. We don't normally go back to the same location but last time it was wonderful and this year we just wanted somewhere where we could relax and enjoy and Lodge End certainly lived up to our expectations. The cottage was spotless and so welcoming and the people in the village are so friendly.

Lovely cottage, great play area nearby

Lovely cottage in a great location.

Fabulous children's play area very close which was a big hit with the kids (turn left out of the cottage, then right at the T-junction and it's on your right).

Highlights were Skipton Castle and a walk to Malham's Cove via Janet's Foss waterfall.

Cononley has the best of both worlds; set in the stunning countryside of the Yorkshire Dales, within easy reach of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, the Forest of Bowland AONB, the Nidderdale AONB and yet with with vibrant cities just a stones throw away. It is very well located for travelling by rail, bus, and car. It is also close to long distance walking routes, national and regional cycling routes (including the Pennine Bridleway) and the Leeds-Liverpool canal.The joy of visiting this area is that every season has its own special qualities, activities and experiences to enjoy.

Lodge End is situated on the boundary of West and North Yorkshire with excellent transport links and very close to Yorkshire Dales National Park, Forest of Bowland and Nidderdale Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The property is in the centre of the village of Cononley. It is five minutes walk from the village shop, post office, real ale pub plus a fabulous park with childrens play area, skate park and football pitch. It is 4 miles from the medieval market town of Skipton, 10 miles from Haworth featured in many Bronte novels, 11 miles from Ilkley home of Betty's tearooms, 12 miles from Saltaire World Heritage Site, 14 miles from Grassington home of the Grassington Festival, 25 miles from Leeds and 27 miles from Harrogate Spa.

Lodge End is a fabulous base for enjoying the outdoors whether it be just enjoying the natural beauty of the area, geocaching, walking the network of local public footpaths, hiking the 3 peaks in the Yorkshire Dales, road biking the route of the Tour de France grand depart, mountain biking in the Forest of Bowland, fell running in the local events throughout the season, or canoeing along the Leeds-Liverpool canal.

Locally sourced meat is sold in New Laithe Farm Butchers in Crosshills 2 miles away and there are several good butchers in Skipton. The nearest supermarkets are in Crosshills and Skipton (Aldi, Co-op, Tesco, Morrisons).

The centre of Leeds and Bradford are only 40 minutes from Cononley railway station with services every 15 minutes. Highlights of Leeds apart from the shopping include the Corn Exchange for its architecture and restaurants, Leeds Art Gallery (the tiled hall café is a must), Opera North and the Northern Ballet as well as contemporary music venues such as the O2. Bradford is great for the Alhambra Threatre, the National Film Museum (including IMAX cinema) and some very good Indian restaurants. Closer to Cononley is Saltaire world heritage site including Salts Mill. Then of course there is Fountains Abbey, the Wright Wine Company, Harrogate Turkish Baths and Health Spa, Eureka the national children's museum in Halifax, local food producers and the list goes on.

I can only scratch the surface here. Whether you want to just sit back and relax, have a family friendly holiday or love extreme sports there is something for everyone. Why not come and discover it for yourself?

Period of Hire
Letting starts at 4pm on the day of arrival and finishes at 10am on the day of departure. Lets more than 6 weeks in advance are for a minimum of 7 nights and the maximum period of let is 4 weeks, unless by special arrangement.

Occupancy
We are unable to accept any Hen or Stag Parties. We, or our representatives reserve the right to remove person or persons from the property due to unreasonable behaviour, damage to the property. In this case refund will be at the discretion of the owners.

Care of Property
The hirer is responsible for the property during the hire period and shall take reasonable and proper care of it.

Breakage or Damages
Please report any problems, breakages or damage as soon as it may occur; accidents will happen. We reserve the right to charge for damage that would not be considered to result from normal wear and tear.

Right of Entry
We, or our representatives reserve the right of entry to the property at all reasonable times for the purposes of inspection or to carry out essential repairs or maintenance.

Liability
The use of the property and its equipment is entirely at the Hirer's and their party's risk; the owners of Lodge End shall have no liability for any death,personal injury, damage or loss of personal property including motor vehicles.

Cancellation
If you wish to cancel a reservation we must be notified. In the event of a cancellation all reasonable efforts will be made to re-let the house for that period, and if re-letting is achieved you will be reimbursed in full (minus a £35 administration charge). If the property is not re-let the 25% initial payment will be withheld. If the cancellation occurs less than 6 weeks in advance then the entire fee will be forfeited.

Contract
The Contract of Hire is between the Hirer and Mrs J Claxton, the Owner of Lodge End.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund for cancellations more than 30 days before check-in date.
  • 100% refund for cancellations more than 60 days before check-in date.

  • Family-friendly: A folding stair gate is provided at the top of the stairs for families. Other items of baby/ toddler equipment are available on request. Outside: The colourful south-facing yard with its picket fence and gate, has a table and chairs, surrounded by colourful planters, aromatic herbs and Blueberry bushes. There a shed for secure bike storage with bike hooks for 2 bikes provided. There is a retractable washing line provided. For the adventurous there is a second seating area surrounded by mature fruit trees and bushes accessed by ladder steps. Cleaning / Towels / Bed linen: Freshly laundered towels and bed linen are included and beds are made up ready for your arrival. The property is thoroughly cleaned between each letting. Parking: On-street parking only. Other: There is a full set of up to date OS explorer maps for the area that you are welcome to use during your stay as well as books, and local information.
