About the property

House in Lieurey, Eure-Calvados border, Normandy, France - Peaceful Country Location, 10 Minutes Walk Of Boulangeries, Boucherie, Pharmacie And Newsstand

Sleeps 10. 5 bedroom house surrounded by apple and pear orchards in a 6 acres ground. The building dates back in the 18th century. Very peaceful location at the edge of the market village of Lieurey. Perfect base for exploring the lovely Normandy countryside with family or friends. Deauville and Trouville with their beaches are 35 min. away. The village is 2 minutes away by car and you can find all the amenities as grocerie, butcher , pharmacy, newsstand, two bakeries and more. There is also a doctor, a dentist and nurses!

The house has a study, a living room with a piano, a dining room with a hudge fire place (wood provided) a kitchen, and a bathroom on the ground floor.

The kitchen opens to the outside directly which is very convenient to take your meals around the table under the apple trees. In the kitchen you will find a gas hub, fridge, oven, dish washer and everything you need to cook for a large family. The freezer is in the utility room, on the other side of the house.

Two stair cases lead to the bedrooms and the two bathrooms. The first bedroom with queen size bed has an ensuite bathroom. The second one had a Californian king size bed. The three other bedrooms have one or two single bed each. All the rooms are independant from each other. Those three bedrooms lead to a large corridor with a lot of books and games and opening to the third bathroom.

The outside of the house is very large and you can play soccer as well as jump on the trampoline or just lay in the grass watching the stars. No other house is overlooking the property.

From the house you can walk or ride a bike to the village where you can play tennis and a little further practice horseback riding. With you car you can play Golf in Pont l'Evêque or go spend the day on the beautiful beach of Deauville.

Whether you like History or/and Art, we are at same distance of the WWII memorials and the Giverny gardens where Monet painted the Nymphéas.

A perfectly charming property

  • 5 of 5

If you like French "shabby chic" then this property has it all. The photos really don't do the property justice. It is picture perfect and oozes charm from the wonderful smell of old timber beams to the apple and plum trees laden with fruit in the 6 acres of garden. The children were in their element on the trampoline, feeding the horses in the neighbouring field and building a den in the trees.Lots of games and dressing up stuff too plus loads of space to run around both inside and outside. We were in our element savouring the warm sunshine whilst sharing a meal in the garden and the wine and local cider. We also baked with the fruit!

The property is an excellent base for the beaches, the world war 2 cemeteries and monuments and also a trip to Paris to see the sights. However if you want to just relax or take a quiet walk then there is no better place to do it and we did plenty of that too.

We cant find any negatives about this property and will be looking to return next year. If however you like pristine paintwork and modern surroundings this is not the place for you.

Ideal for a relaxing holiday

  • 5 of 5

We have spent a lovely fortnight in this old Normandy property and the owner was friendly and very helpful. The house was well equipped and comfortable with everything we needed for cooking inside and BBQing - in fact the weather was so nice we ate most of our meals outside! The beds and linens were good quality and the house was spacious, especially for five people.

We have enjoyed Normandy and particularly liked Pont-Audemer, the Chateau and Arboretum at Harcourt (lovely for a picnic) and the gardens of Champs de Bataille. Honfleur, the coast and the Seine valley are all within easy reach for a day out.

The farm of Nicholas Pinel, south of Lieurey at Morainville-Jouveaux, sells delicious jus de pomme, cider and Eau de Vie.

Perfect house for our family holiday!

  • 5 of 5

We’ve just returned from staying here last week and we cannot recommend the house enough!

The house has so much character and is filled with charm. The rooms are stylishly decorated and comfortable and the kitchen is well equipped with a dishwasher and microwave.

The washing machine and freezer in the utility room came in very handy too, and the downstairs shower is brilliant and powerful.

The garden is huge which allowed us lots of space for the children to play rounders and football (and for us to enjoy late suppers in the warm evening sunshine!)

The area is so pretty with lots of beautiful timbered properties (we loved the town of Bernay!).

The village of Lieurey is within walking distance (about 20 minutes walk) with great amenities: 2 bakeries, cafe tabac, restaurant, florists, post office etc. The beautiful white sandy beaches of Deauville & Trouville are just 40 minutes away.

The owner, Frederica, was so helpful and patient with our endless questions before booking.

The only point to raise is that the 2 end bedrooms are directly at the top of the stairs (there are 2 staircases) and the doors open to a drop over the top steps so these 2 rooms are not suitable for young children. However the other 3 bedrooms are child-friendly with lots of toys and games available. All very welcoming and homely.

Fantastic value for money. Loved it here – we will definitely return!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your nice review and thank you for leaving the house so perfectly cleaned. Unfortunatly we cannot do anything for the rooms leading in the staircase, it is how it has been built! Nobody ever felt or had any problem, but I understand your concern. We would be very happy to have you and your lovely family back. Frederica.

  • 5 of 5

We just had a wonderful week in Lieurey.

The house is full of charm and very comfortable.

Kids enjoyed playing in the huge garden.

The village has all amenities you require, boulangerie, pharmacy, newspaper shop and a little supermarket.

We will certainly consider staying again.

Rustic, comfortable & beautiful

  • 3 of 5

The cottage is very spacious, with ample room for our large party which included several small children. Plenty of wonderful space outside for the kids to run; great space to sit outside and enjoy long summer evening meals.

The house is well-furnished; bedrooms are comfortable and clean & leave an great impression of rustic old-world charm.

For families with really small children it would be good to point out the two staircases - the house would benefit from either having permanent stair gates fitted or by some being made available if needed.

We enjoyed the use of the very well furnished kitchen and dining room, but thought that it might be good for a few of the more personal bits of (family) furniture and artifacts to be taken out of the cottage.

We loved our stay and will certainly consider staying again if we were looking for somewhere in that area of Normandy.

A Beautiful House

  • 4 of 5

We have just had 2 wonderful weeks at this house, which is full of character and charm. The owner, Frederica, who could not have been more accommodating, has restored it with great care; ensuring that the authenticity of the building has been preserved and its history felt in every room.

Although there were only the two of us it is a pefect place to fill with children and adults. The salon (piano room) is extremely elegant and comfortable. The dining room is ideal for long meals around the table in front of a huge fire. Or, alternatively, you can sit outside, under the fruit trees and pretend that the whole place is yours - which is what we did.
