This is a luxury furnished 3 bedroom 4th floor apartment, decorated to the highest standard, fully equipped with a large L shaped balcony (catches the sun all day long) with table, chairs, sun loungers and parasols, for sunshine in the morning for breakfast and for evening sun with your BBQ. Large lounge with TV, PS3/Bluray player, games and FREE WIFI. Full remote controlled air-conditioned cooling and heating. Windows are double glazed with electric blackout shutters (useful when resting during hottest part of the day). Located in a prime position of Olhao just a short walk to the 5* marina hotel facilities. Take the hotel ferry or a private taxi to the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve where the islands of Armona, Culatra and Farol provide expansive uncluttered sandy beaches with quality restaurants and bars. Main ferry to islands also a walk away. The town has a thriving fishing fleet which supports the extremely varied menus found in its many bars and restaurants. There is also plenty of opportunity to shop in the weekly markets or search for bargains in the narrow streets of the town centre.

About the Owner
We live on the edge of London and first holidayed in the Algarve in 1981 and but didn't visit Eastern Algarve until 2007. We are very pleased we decided to invest in this location. We enjoy all that Olhao has to offer, plenty of fresh food especially fish, lovely restaurants, cafes and bars and their relaxing atmosphere. Excellent beaches which are beautiful and relatively empty and stretch for miles and easily accessible together with their lovely restaurants for long tranquil afternoon lunches are something we love.

Fantastic apt for family
We had an amazing 9 days in Olhao, there were 4 adults and 1 two year old. The apt is huge and has everything you could need. The bedrooms are a really generous size and the beds are very comfortable. The electric blinds are an added bonus for anyone who has children who sleep during the day. We had the roof top pool to ourselves, it had loads of space for our two year old to run around and play and the wooden style floor is perfect as it doesn't get slippy like most tiles are the pool.
We had a huge choice of channels and there was everything you could ask for in the apt, there was even a rolling shopping cart with Lidi only a little over 5 min walk away.
Mary was a pleasure to deal with and nothing was a problem. She couldn't have been more helpful. We have probable stayed in 7/8 different apt around Portugal and this was by far the nicest apt i have ever stayed in.

The apartment is very spacious, clean and has all you need for a relaxing stay. The beautiful sea view was very relaxing and the atmosphere peaceful. It is in an ideal location for both the airport and catching boats out to the lovely island beaches. The islands are a must with many to choose from. The manager provided a great service on arrival and we will be recommending the property to friends and family.
Stunning, clean and fully equipped apartment
The whole experience of booking this apartment was seamless. Excellent communication with the owner throughout. It is exactly as listed, the rooms are open and spacious ensuring a home from home feel. It is clean and well maintained and we really appreciated the broadband and Sky TV - the Olympics were on during our visit so it was nice to keep up to date with events.
We particularly enjoyed the island visits with Amora being our top venue. Think unspoiled beaches, it felt like the Maldives - heaven.
We hired bikes for a few hours in the cool of the evening and cycled out to the Natural Park which was awash with sea birds and inland species (a real twitchers delight - maybe take binoculars if this is your thing).
A walk around the Ria Formosa is a revelation - flamingos, millions of Fiddler Crabs scuppering for cover in the mud banks, salt flats drying out and being processed. It really is a fascinating ever changing landscape.
When we were there the annual Shellfish Festival took place so consider the timing of your holiday if fishy food is your bag. Think freshly cooked shell/fish, live bands and a real community spirit as locals and tourists came together to eat at long trestle tables and enjoy the atmosphere.
Our favourite restaurants were Steak and Co for meats and Emotions for a yummy breakfast or club sandwich - The staff were very friendly despite working long hours and made a special effort to ask us about our day and if we were enjoying Portugal. Handily they were the closest venues to the apartment so it was easy to sway our way home after a fine gin (hubby) or lovely sav blanc (me). If you prefer tapas I would recommend Bar 62 - there was a very nice selection especially if you are not a fish lover.
This is not a clubbin' it venue but a more 'mature take time to people watch and enjoy a live band' kind of location. If you want lively bars and 4am finishes I would consider somewhere else. If like us you are happy to chat, watch the world go by, enjoy a more authentic Portuguese experience then Olhao would be an ideal location. Ensure you take to your walking shoes and investigate the old town... fascinating tiled buildings and narrow cobbled streets. A photographers delight.
Faro is close by and has a plethora of modern shops, cinema with English movies and every kind of eatery you could wish for.
All in all we had two weeks of wall to wall sunshine and the roof top pool to ourselves!
This is our 2nd visit to this property and it was everything we remembered and more. The spec of this apartment is fantastic with the extras of good WIFI, a barbecue, PS3 and having the pool all to ourselves providing the icing on the cake for us. We found everything first class from placing our initial query with Mary, dealing with Mars Algarve (who were very helpful organising airport transfers), the welcome meeting at the apartment right through to the follow up emails on our return home.
Like last year, we did not bother with car hire as everything is within easy walking distance but we did use the train this year and took a day trip to Tavira which is really worth seeing. We also tried stand up paddle boarding (SUP) in Fuzeta with our teenage sons which I would also highly recommend.
This apartment is the perfect base for all the activities and restaurants Olhao has to offer but also ideal because of the easy connections to everything else close by. We certainly would love to return again and explore more.

“We love Olhao because of the fantastic facilities in the area. There are some beautiful beaches and the marina boasts a great range of bars and restaurants. There really is something for everyone here. The area is easily accessible with Faro airport less than an 20 minutes drive away. Eastern Algarve still retains the traditional Portuguese feel and charm. Eating out is very reasonably priced and represents excellent value for money for a good night out. The locals are very friendly and welcoming. The beaches on the islands make a refreshing change from over-crowded beaches elsewhere. On the doorstep is the countryside which is mountainous and beautiful and offering many excellent restaurants etc.”

The apartment overlooks the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve and the sea. The bird life on view is amazing.
The unspoilt, white sandy beaches and clear waters of the offshore sandpit islands of Ilha da Armona and Ilha da Culatra are easily reached by ferries that run from the quayside to the eastern end of Olhao's waterfront. Ihla da Armona is the closest to Olhao and has a few restaurants and holiday chalets. Ihla do Farol, where the lighthouse is, at the western end of Culatra, also has a beautiful sandy beach and a few cafes and a restaurant. All of the beaches hold the EEC blue flag.
Faro Airport is 8 km away, approximately a 15-minute drive. Trains and buses run between Faro and Olhao. Olhao bus and train stations are both within walking distance of the apartment. Car hire is not essential as the apartment is so conveniently located for all amenities, including the ferries to the offshore islands. If car hire is required recommendations can be provided. Recommendations for airport transfers/local taxi service for trips during stay are available.
Olhao village with markets, shops, restaurants and bars, ferry, bus and train station is 10 minutes walk away. The marina is on the doorstep and offers fishing and cruising trips.
The lovely city of Tavira is only 8km away and Faro is 9 kms away and has a large shopping centre and a large sandy beach with cafe bars.
50 kms to the Spanish border which makes for an interesting day out. 30-40km to the more traditional resorts of the western Algarve.
Olhao is a traditional Portuguese fishing town, full of character with its Moorish-style houses and winding, cobbled back streets. In the heart of the historic town there are graceful buildings with wrought iron balconies, carved stonework & decorative tiled exteriors. At the centre of the town is the church of Nossa Senhora do Rosario, built in 1698 with contributions from the fishermen. It is elegant with a baroque facade. Olhao is well known for its fish market; there are two market buildings on the waterfront with a vast and diverse choice of fresh fish and seafood, locally grown fruit and vegetables. These market halls are surrounded by pavement cafes where you can enjoy the view of the sea and the boats moored along the waterfront & the ambience of the area. Olhao is surrounded by 'ilhas' sand spit islands, which protect the marshy lagoon, but Olhao also boasts many beautiful beaches reached by ferry or private boat. The Reserva Natural da Ria Formosa is an environmental and conservation area for birds and marine life and encompasses 60 km of coast between Ancao and Manta Rota. It is a vital area for birds, especially waterfowl, and the park was included in the list of wetlands of worldwide interest defined by the Ramsar Convention. One can observe the wildlife from hides dotted around the Natural Park and there is also the opportunity to see the rare Algarvian Water Dogs on the Reserve. Boat trips are run around the Ria Formosa, or boats can be hired. Olhao Seafood Festival takes place in August (around the 2nd week). It's one of the biggest gastronomy festivals in the Algarve with plenty of delicious seafood & live entertainment every night. Apart from the daily fresh markets in Olhao there are plenty of other markets to visit in the surrounding areas, including Fuzeta, Montcarapacho and Quelfes. Bicycles and quad bikes are available for hire plus guided tours. Zip line adventures, guided walking tours, big game fishing, museums and water parks are nearby.
