Sunset Cottage is built in traditional stone and was lovingly created from what was once the stables. Oak beams and chestnut from a nearby sawmill, along with locally quarried stone, were used in the conversion.
This comfortable, light and airy cottage benefits from full central heating. The open plan living area comprises of kitchen, dining area and lounge. There is a fully fitted modern kitchen with a microwave/combi oven and gas hob, dishwasher, washing machine, fridge with freezer compartment and a toaster.
The bathroom has a tiled and glass shower, WC and vanity unit.
There are two bedrooms. Bedroom 1 has a double bed, wardrobes and chest of drawers. Bedroom 2 has two single beds, wardrobe, bedside unit and chest of drawers.
Les Hirondelles can be found at the end of a small lane in a tiny hamlet called Montribot. The hamlet, with just 3 families, is situated on top of a hill at around 1000ft. The location offers peace and tranquility and the most wonderful all round views. It is possible to virtually walk from the door into high flower meadows or onto many varied walks. However, our oasis of calm is far from isolated. The historic town of Rouffignac with all its amenities, including shops, restaurants and a Sunday market, is just 5 minutes away. Excellent roads give easy access to all the attractions of the beautiful Dordogne and Vezere valleys and beyond. They also ensure that, after a busy enjoyable day, it is possible to escape back to our much slower and quieter pace of life.
The cottage has its own private terrace with wooden garden furniture, parasol and gas barbecue. The terrace leads onto a large garden and enjoys superb views across the valley.

About the Owner
About Jeanette and Peter Grainger
For Peter and Jeanette it was love at first sight! After two weeks travelling around SW France, we found our dream home here in Montribot. That was over 16 years ago and we are still in love! Having retired early from our busy and demanding jobs, we moved to France in October 1999. We spent the next two years working on the grounds, installing the pool and renovating the cottages - so many stories to tell!
We opened for business with Pippin's in the summer of 2001 & Sunset followed in 2002. Since then we haven't looked back. We have met so many lovely people over the past 15 years and it is a pleasure to see them return each year, as well as to welcome new guests.
Whatever your reason for visiting us here in this beautiful part of France, we can assure you of a very warm welcome.
Jeanette and Peter Grainger purchased this cottage in 1999

A lovely tranquil region of France
A week in this lovely cottage in rural France was a highlight of a two-month trip from New Zealand to Europe. Peter and Jeanette were so welcoming and helpful but also respected our privacy. The cottage is beautiful. It is very well laid out, clean and comfortable and while we loved tripping around the area to small villages with their markets and their restaurants, we also enjoyed spending time at our cottage. The whole complex has been developed as an ideal holiday retreat for couples or families and we have certainly talked about it a lot as a highlight of our trip.
Summer in Sunset
Sunset is a well equipped, clean and tidy cottage. The surroundings are very quiet and peaceful, with lovely views across the valley. A good supermarket with fuel is 2 miles away, as is a bakers, small cafe and post office. The Dordogne and Vezere rivers are easily reached by car, with plenty of picnic spots. Good market at Montignac, nice shops in Perigueux, river paddling and pottery gallery at Limeuil. If you don't mind a drive, Rochamador is a wonderful place, better than Sarlat. Domme has lovely views and a great ice cream parlour. Peter and Jeanette have great knowledge of the area which they are always delighted to share. You could not meet lovelier hosts.
The property is beautiful, with everything you need for your stay. The owners Peter and Jeanette were very welcoming and attentive throughout our stay. The grounds were amazing with the most fabulous views from your terrace. The pool area was lovely and clean and a pretty cool view whilst you swim. A lovely place to wind down and chill but lots to do within the area. Thanks for a lovely holiday.
We had a wonderful, relaxing stay with Peter and Jeanette. They are perfect hosts, we spent several very pleasant evenings with them but they were also unobtrusive unless we needed them. Sunset Cottage is well appointed and comfortable, especially the beds and stays cool in the hot weather. The salt water pool was a nice temperature enjoyed by the whole family. The views from the gite are beautiful and it is a peaceful area without being isolated. The local supermarket and village caters for all needs.
A big thank you to Peter and Jeanette for making our holiday a well needed rest, we would definitely return in the future.
We have recently returned from 2 wonderful weeks in the Dordogne, spending time relaxing in quite idilic surroundings.
Les Hirondelles, sun set cottage could not have been more perfect.
The drive through the villages in approach was relaxing enough.
Met by our hosts we were giving a guided tour. Stepping through the gate onto what would be our patio and seeing the views across the valley was amazing.
Immediately you didn't want to leave. The 7 acre grounds were there to explore. Walnut and fruit trees around each turn and a very welcome, clean and refreshing pool.
Sunset cottage is very well equipped with everything you need. Again very clean and welcoming. Supplies of cleaning and washing products on hand ( septic tank safe) and fans in the bedrooms.
We had places to visit: Montingac, Sarlat, Les Eyzies and others yet to discover. We found this location excellent to provided access to these towns and easy to return to.
Rouffignac-Saint-Cernin-de-Reilhac is a very easy 2mile walk from the property and a nice Sunday morning trip to the market. There is a Carrefour supermarket 8-8. Closes at 1 on Sunday but has 24 Hr fuel.
Jeanette and Peter are the perfect hosts. There if you need them, and discrete to let you enjoy your stay at your pace and in privacy.
We did not want to leave there and miss the piece and quiet. The warm evenings sat out in the fresh air.
Remote and beautiful
Clean, well equipped cottage in a beautiful setting. Apparently isolated, but 5 minutes in the car from all amenities. Friendly, helpful hosts who don't impose, but are there when needed. As a wheelchair user who can walk a little, the one level of the cottage was ideal. You need a sturdy helper to get you to the pool! Montribot is ideally placed for visiting tourist sites in the Dordogne.

Montribot is a small, quiet hamlet, 4km from Rouffignac St Cernin which has a post office, cashpoint, pharmacy, bars, cafes, restaurants and a Carrefour Contact supermarket. Blondys bakery make the most delicious cakes and pastries for miles around, especially their strawberry tarts - you have been warned!!
The small, colourful market in Rouffignac on Sunday morning provides really fresh locally produced fruit and vegetables, as well as cheese, wine and other tasty goodies! There is a market every day of the week in one of the nearby villages and towns.
The Perigord has many flower-filled, historic small villages which give the distinct impression that they are lost in time. Many have stunning architecture and usually a small bar or restaurant where it is possible, glass in hand, to while away an hour - or three! - and quietly sample a pace of life long forgotton in a busy world.
The area, and particularly the Dordogne valley, abounds in castles, chateaux and beautiful gardens in stunning locations and may be visited throughout the season.
Les Hirondelles is a small paradise for those interested in all aspects of nature. You can walk directly into lovely flower meadows and woodland and we have many varied and waymarked paths, some of which start almost at the door. Spring is the time for bird watching with more than 70 species recorded around our cottages. Wild flowers, and in particular the orchids, are stunning in spring and early summer.
Summer is the ideal time for picnics on the shady banks of a river or relaxing on a lounger by the pool. Autumn is a quieter time, warm with early morning mists and the fantastic changing colours of the forest. The time of bounty with mushrooms, chestnuts and walnuts, and migratiion with Cranes passing overhead in large numbers on their way south to their winter roosts.
For pre-history enthusiasts, the area has the National Centre for Pre-History and the largest concentration of caves and paintings in France. Rouffignac has its own cave with remarkable cave paintings, accessible by an exciting train ride!
