About the property

Holiday Cottage Madehurst, Arundel, West Sussex - Idyllic Location For Those Who Want To Get Away From It

The Cowshed is in an idyllic location - very peaceful for those wanting to relax - we are on top of the South Downs within the newly appointed National Park so there is instant access to miles of bridle and footpaths making it perfect for walkers and cyclists. We have just installed a small but well appointed kitchen. There is no living room although the main bedroom doubles up as the main living area. Please note that prices are 'from' £80 per night and bringing a dog is extra too.

A lovely warm and cosy stay with breathtaking views. Everything you could possibly need is supplied. The Cowshed is adorable, clean, warm and beautifully restored. This little gem is a must visit for a relaxing get away from it all break. The zip wire is hilarious, numerous lovely walks surround you. Amberley and Arundel are a short drive away. Tory is a very caring host who makes you feel welcome, we will definitely return, we enjoyed every minute of our 3 night stay.

Relaxing retreat

  • 5 of 5

We arrived quite late on the Friday, so it was dark and we were quite tired but Tory was so laid back and helpful that we felt at home straightaway. As others have said, she directed us to some local pubs for dinner and we ended up going to them both over the weekend - the George and Dragon at Houghton and the Bridge Inn at Amberley - both had excellent food.

The 'cow shed' itself was immaculate and beautifully designed and decorated. (The photos really don't do it justice). Tory provided us with everything we needed for breakfast and the cupboards were full with tea, coffee, etc. We couldn't have asked for more.

The location is absolutely beautiful but be prepared to drive up some small winding woodland roads. Also, there is no WiFi or much phone signal (which I was actually quite pleased about as it was a complete getaway).

Overall, excellent, would go again and will recommend to others. Thanks Tory! :-)

Lovely and Cosy Cowshed

  • 5 of 5

The Cow Shed is a lovely place to stay, I don't think the photos do it justice! We stayed for 2 nights whilst attending a wedding nearby (just a shame we hadn't booked for longer) and everything surpassed our expectations. Our party was 3 adults, 1 child and our Lab and there was ample space for all of us. Lovely views, our son loved the zip-swing and even wanted to leave the wedding early to get back to it! Tory was very helpful and friendly, giving us information before we booked and when we arrived. Would definitely recommend. Thank you Tory.

Bijou gem

  • 5 of 5

Just had wonderful weekend stay. Excellent facilities and extra little touches. Magnificent views and if you like being woken by birdsong you won't be disappointed. Only negative and this is minor for me is the lack of a full sized oven. Although my lasagne did cook in the convection oven which is also the microwave. Just takes a little longer. My teens had great fun using the netball hoop, football and zip line. Didn't even get round to ping pong. Excellent directions.

A quiet rural location with a warm welcome

  • 5 of 5

The cottage and its location were perfect for our needs. The setting, thoughtful provision, cleanliness and sense of space within a limited area all contributed to an excellent birthday and New Year celebration. The owner took great care to ensure that we knew what to expect before arrival, that we had all we needed, and provided detailed advice on local pubs. There are excellent walks from the cottage, and the scenic and country town features of the area are self evident. Good OS maps and brochures were available.

The historic walled city of Chichester is 20 mins away and also has an impressive cathedral, the Pallant house gallery and Chichester Festival Theatre. Further Details:

There are a wide variety of restaurants in Arundel including a Chinese and an Indian. There are some good pubs in the area - the nearest pub is the Spur in Slindon, the George in Houghton or the Bridge at Amberley. All serve good food.

The nearest post office is Arundel which also has several banks and a very good walking / camping shop called Peglars. Arundel Castle is open from spring throughout the summer and has a wonderful garden too or you could hire a rowing boat at Swanbourne lake just along from the castle and also feed the ducks and wild birds while you are there.
