The village of Campan is perfectly positioned in the Valle de Campan to enjoy all the outdoor pursuits and local produce this region is famous for. The Tour de France is a regular visitor through the village en route to Col du Tourmalet or the Col d'Aspin. Summer visitors regularly come in search of the the monaques (life size rag dolls that mysteriously move each night!). Beautiful walks for all abilities are on your door step and our house is perfectly equipped for you and your family and friends to relax and enjoy the surroundings on a warm summer day or curl up in front of the log fire after a hard days ski-ing on the many pistes at la mongie. All the amenities you require are available including wi fi connection, tv and dvd players in 2 of the bedrooms and 2 luxury showers. The village has everything you need; hotel, restaurant, chemist, baker, tabac, bank, post office, tourist information, cafe and grocer. For those additional things Bagneres de Bigorre is only 8 minutes away.

About Carol Allenby

We are, Carol, Gary, Emma and Ben and we enjoy visiting this part of France all the year round. We are now on our 3rd French dictionary and have all improved our French and given the locals lots of amusement along the way. We have slowly renovated the house and created a holiday home with lots to keep us and our family and friends amused in both good and bad weather. We all love ski-ing at La Mongie and have had great fun exploring the walks, caves, nature, cycling and history around Campan. Each visit is not complete without a visit to the Aquensis Spa in Bagneres de Bigorre and a visit to the coast with dinner at our favorite fish restaurant in Saint Jean de Luz. We hope you enjoy getting to know the friendly Basque culture and exploring this beautiful area of France as much as we do.

Why Carol Allenby chose Bagneres-de-Bigorre area

Location, location , location. Fantastic ski-ing in the winter, watching the Tour de France in the summer and enjoying day trips to the great beaches and fish restaurants of the French and Spanish Atlantic coast. Each year we have visited different places and we still have not seen everything we want to visit. The mountains are beautiful and we love the fact we can walk from the house or just spend 10 minutes in the car and find the most fantastic scenery and walks to suit all abilities and all energy levels. We have also enjoyed learning lots about the Basque culture and we particularly enjoy the fresh food which makes everything in the Pyrenees taste delicious. Our holiday home is like the tardus and we love the fact that we have been able to renovate it to suit all our family needs.

What makes this house unique

The house is in the village of Campan, right next to the Salle de Fete. In the summer the Pastorelles have a show with local music and dance. The village is on the cycle route for the Col Du Tourmalet and the Col D'Aspin so there are always lots of colorful cyclists going past. We have everything on our door step, including a small tourist office with weather forecasts and the local activities, including a map to find the life size rag dolls in the summer. For those on your holiday who want a bit of independence and don't want to drive there is a local bus to Bagneres de Bigorre, ski bus in the winter to La Mongie and bicycles at the house to get you around. For those who don't want to cook Chez Brenda's do great Pizza in the evening and tasty meals for all tastes plus hotel and cafe.

We have just returned from a wondering holiday touring around France. However, the highlight of our stay was the small little village of Campan. Your house was so cosy and felt like a home away from home with lots of games to entertain the kids. You both have done a wonderful job on renovating this delightful house. Even though it is in the middle of the village, the house felt very private and secure. The surrounding area was so beautiful and we enjoyed our daily walks through the lovely countryside. My children really enjoy nature and were delighted whe we cam across a flock of 15 golden eagles down by the river walk early one morning. We had many hours of fun taking pictures next to the coarse dolls on in the village. I cannot thankyou enough for opening your beautiful home for rent and look forward to my visit next year (McGrath family, Ireland)





2. Perfect: Cosy base for cycling the famous Cols. Comfy beds, luxurious bath/shower. Wonderful garden for barbecuing local sausage, Yum, with great view in good weather evenings. Cosy log stove for warming up cold bones on less good weather evenings. Two local mountain Tour de France mountain stages to be watched and so far its a british rider wearing the yellow jersey. We would love to stay longer, so much more to see and do. Thank you p.s. chocolate biscuits and wine went down very well when we arrived (Sarah and Graham)

Phwoar, what a fantastic holiday!

Two weeks have flown past. Great cosy place to stay in with super weather. It was impossible to do everything in this fantastic region, but we'll be back for sure. There's great long hikes to go on right outside the door, especially the walk to Lac Bleu, the views were breath taking. Also we spent a day at Biarritz and St. Jean de Luz was also well worth the slightly long drive. The closest town Bagneres is full of lovely markets, filled with excellent cheese, wine and charcuterie. Perfect accommodation in a perfect region, with things to do for every age.

Superb Property

The house is superb and perfectly equipped. We have spent several days exploring the fantastic views, mountain side vistas and the windy mountain roads. The area has so much to offer and we have been blessed with consistently good weather. The shops in Campan were both friendly and the slightly larger of the two, run by an Englishman was incredibly helpful when we had a problem with one of our bikes. We used the local pizza restaurant 3 times which says a lot. The owners were extremely amusing, friendly and served lots of tasty meals. The log burning stove has been put to good use and we appreciate hugely how well equipped the kitchen was and how comfortable the lounge was. Overall a superb property and a perfect house. At least 2 of us will be bringing our families back here in the future. Thank you.
