About the Owner

I live in the Montpellier area with my wife and our son. I bought the Puilacher Chateau with enthusiasm in 1975, and since then have devoted a great deal of my life and energy to repairing, decorating and furnishing it. It is now listed as a historical monument, which I am very proud of, and can be visited two days a year.

I worked for 29 years in western Africa and brought back many arts and craft pieces. So, the Chateau has both European furniture and African elements.

Its situation is ideal because it is in the part of the Herault that is called "the French Tuscany", centrally located in this department, only 40 kilometers from the seaside and almost literally surrounded by historical sites.

Location

From the Owner

Puilacher is in a beautiful part of Languedoc, from the point of view of its natural scenery ("the French Tuscany") and pleasantly warm climate of course, but also because there are so many places to visit, when one is not too busy working on the Chateau that is! I have already mentioned the abbeys (Valmagne, Saint-Guilhem-le-Desert), and natural curiosities (Clamouse caves, Moureze dolomitic circus, Salagou lake, ...), the Mediterranean seaside. But Montpellier where I live part of the year is a wonderful city of 450,000 inhabitants, with a vibrant culture, arts and sports scene, not to mention its heritage: its University for Medicine and its Cathedral dating back to the 14th century for instance, etc.
