About the property

Cottage in Sainte Mere Eglise, Manche, Normandy, France - Peaceful Location 10kms From Landing Beaches

This charming two bedroom holiday cottage is located in peaceful countryside on the outskirts of Sainte Mere Eglise in normandy. Sainte Mere Eglise is famous for being the first town to be liberated by the forces during the second world war. Our gite is just 10 kms from the D day landing beaches. The gite has it's own entrance and parking area as well as a large, private, south facing garden with plenty of space for children to run around and play, you can even play badminton if you feel up to it. Alternatively you could sit and relax on the wooden decking patio, soothed by the gentle stream which runs underneath and watch the ducks go by. The gite has its own garden table and chairs and on sunny evenings a barbeque is a must!

About Elizabeth Palfreyman

Our love of all things French originally brought us to France in 1983 and we have lived and worked in the Normandy region of France ever since where we run our own smoked salmon company.

Why Elizabeth Palfreyman chose Cherbourg area

We bought our present property in 2002. The gite was converted from a stables building in 2005 and we have been letting it ever since. The Gite is part of our property and we are always available to assist our guests in anyway we can. We love this part of France because of the relaxed way of life and the space all around us, as well as the proximity of beautiful, sandy beaches.

Great location, lovely host, fantastic stay

  • 5 of 5

Had a great stay here for just under a week in Oct/Nov 2016. Property was really well heated so we weren't cold. We did a lot of days out travelling by car and the location was great for access to the main road. Really near to both the town and the supermarche. Bathroom had just been worked on and the whole property was clean. Host was lovely, we arrived on Sunday when shops were closed and she provided us with essentials. We will definitely come back to stay again.

well appointed gite in a lovely setting

  • 5 of 5

The gite was just right for us with double and twin rooms in the eaves plus a fabulous shower with jets upstairs and an open plan kitchen/dining/living area downstairs opening onto decking. The garden was amazing and we enjoyed plenty of outside games. Everything we needed was provided and the place was spotless. Elizabeth was very welcoming and gave us some great suggestions for things to do nearby. The location is great for exploring the D-day beaches but we also enjoyed cycling on the quiet country lanes and pottering in nearby St Mere Eglise. We're already planning our return!

Great gite in a lovely area.

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our 2 week stay at this gite. Liz and Bill are lovely and friendly hosts. The gite is in a lovely part of France full of history, it had everything we needed and a huge garden to chill out in especially on a hot evening, also the decking area to sit and enjoy a beer or 2.... We will definitely be back in the future and would recommend a stay here, thanks again. Dawn and Jim.

Lovely cottage with a fantastic, large garden.

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage. Liz and Bill were excellent hosts and provided all we needed. The cottage is clean and well appointed and has a lovely garden that has a huge lawn that was perfect for our 4 year old to run around on. There is also a decking area for outdoor eating that has a little stream running beneath it. The property is located just outside Saint-Mere-Eglise which offers a range of amenities and it is easy to jump on the N13 to get around the Cotentin peninsula. The Airbourne museum in Saint-Mere is very interesting as is the one at Utah Beach.

Location

From the Owner

We bought our present property in 2002. The gite was converted from a stables building in 2005 and we have been letting it ever since. The Gite is part of our property and we are always available to assist our guests in anyway we can. We love this part of France because of the relaxed way of life and the space all around us, as well as the proximity of beautiful, sandy beaches.

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

Being situated on the Cherbourg peninsula there is a large choice of beaches within easy reach. The nearest, the D day landing beaches are long sandy beaches , 10 kms/6miles away.

Travel:

The gite is easily accessible from the ports of Cherbourg and Caen and although Le Havre and Calais are further away, the journey is easy and mainly on the motorways, which in France are often fairly empty. Don't hesitate to ask us for directions.

Distances:

The gite is 1.5kms from Sainte Mere Eglise with its famous church and war museum, 55kms from Bayeux and the tapestry and 35kms from the port of Cherbourg.

Further Details:

Whether you want to visit the many historical World War 2 sites in the area or have a relaxing family holiday, the gite is ideally located.

It is only a short distance from the watermeadows where you can take a boat ride along the waterways www.bateaudouve.com and there are many beautiful sandy beaches to choose from. you can go for long rambling walks or bike rides in the surrounding countryside and for nature lovers the local bird reserve is only 10 mins away. If you're feeling more energetic then sailing, sand-yachting, canoeing and horse-riding are all nearby. Golf courses and swimming pools (both inside and out) are also within easy reach.

And as for the D day celebrations in June..the gite is only 1.5kms from the town centre of Sainte mere Eglise which becomes a hive of activity during this time. The planes fly over the garden on their way to the parachute drop and you could sit and watch the soldiers drop from the plane and open their parachutes all from the comfort of the patio
