About the Owner

We bought 15, Las Fuentes last year after retirement and plan to spend time here ourselves, as well as offering it for holiday rental. We have refurbished the property during 2012, including external repainting, a new kitchen, solar water heating and new linen and towels. The books and DVDs reflect our tastes and hopefully yours as well! The satellite TV has recently been installed and will be upgraded later in 2015.

Cosy, but too warm, no air con & cockroaches

  • 3 of 5

The apartment was well located and in a quiet residential complex. The pool was lovely and clean although the sunbeds were broken and the overall condition of the outside of the pool was a little tired.

The apartment was homely with very comfy sofas and had everything you need for your stay. Located very close to a large supermarket and good cafe's and bakeries were a 5 minute walk away. The view to the rear of the property was a large derilict area sectioned off with wire fencing, so not much of a view.

Sadly I have to say that the cleanliness of the apartment was not so good. The floors were clean where you walked but the edges, corners and under furniture were filthy. One of the drawers in the main bedroom contained a dead cockroach which put me off using it for my clothes. The cushions for the sunbeds were grubby and had patches of mould on them. We had a major issue with the lack of air con and the apartment is unbearably hot in the evening. The presence of cockroaches meant that we couldnt leave windows open at night and the fans were simply not enough to keep us cool. During our stay we had cockroaches every night and in total we had to deal with 7 or 8 of them every evening. We had to purchase spray and powder to try and keep them at bay, leave all the plugs in, block up the overflows in the sinks and put powder around the shower drain. We placed the bins outside and had to visit the communal bins twice a day to avoid having any rubbish at all which might attract the cockroaches. Our daughter slept in the lounge after waking to see a very large cockroach crawling up her bedroom wall on the 2nd night of our stay. Whilst I understand that hot climates attract cockroches and other insects we did feel that having to deal with the amount we had was not good and it proved to be quite stressfull in the evening when we returned back to the apartment not knowing how many we would find.

Overall we found the apartment to be a little tired and out of date. The wifi was unpredictable and it took an age to connect. Dealing with Ray was fine although we didnt meet as he was away during our stay. We did enjoy our holiday and apart from the cleanliness, lack of air con and the cockroaches, we enjoyed our time at the apartment, however we would not return to this particualr apartment for the reasons set out in this review.

Owner's Response: Hi Lorraine, we are really sorry that you felt unhappy with our apartment. Twice a year the whole complex is chemically sprayed for cockroaches. This unfortunately can sometimes cause a problem for a couple of days as they run for cover !! we do not have a problem other than at these times, which are beyond our control. We have since replaced all the sunbed cushions. Regards Ray

The owner was very helpful and gave us an extra key on request. He was very friendly and a warm welcome awaited. We had a fab holiday and will return next year to this property. I would highly recommend this apartment if you are going to Fuerteventura you will love it.

Great apartment, great value for money.

  • 5 of 5

We met Ray right on time outside the apartment with the keys. Ray gave us a summary of all the facilities and useful tips for the holiday. I was blown away by the apartment which is much better than the description leads you to expect. It is a lot more roomy than the pictures suggest and the outside terrace is just enormous and gets the sun all day! The complex is quiet and clean with well kept gardens and two stunning pools which were never busy at any time during our stay. There are also extra features such as a drinking water tap over the sink which provides a separate supply of filtered drinking water saving you the trouble and expense of buying heavy loads of bottled water. There is also a digital safe to store money etc. which was most welcome. There wasn't much in the way of English TV but the massive collection of DVD's more than made up for it. It's a great selection of films, comedy, TV series, children's programmes, something for everyone. The other aspect I wasn't expecting was the amazing double aspect views from the apartment, you had an amazing view of the sunset over the volcano from the lounge, main bedroom and balcony, with a view over Isla de Lobos and Lanzarote from the dining area and second bedroom. We walked into town most days and found the walk very easy. It also felt very safe and was well lit at night. If you don't to walk into town there are a number of excellent cafes and a few bars at the roundabout on the main road 5 minutes walk away. We had a very enjoyable week and if we return to Fuerteventura, we will definitely want to stay here again.

Home from Home

We stayed here over Christmas and found the apartment to be very homely, clean and extremely well equipped (one of the best we have stayed in!) with everything you needed. Its quite a walk to the centre which we dont mind, however, there are a few nice places to eat and bars on the way and taxis readily available. The complex was mainly quiet with a lovely pool but unfortunately it takes your breath away at that time of year! Thanks to Ray for looking after us and hope you are feeling better Dave....we hope to return again :-)

Lovely, comfortable apartment with great views.

  • 5 of 5

The website does not do justice to this apartment. We stayed for 2 weeks in August - a family of 4. 2 adults and children aged 15 and 12 yrs. The apartment itself was clean, comfortable, light and airy. The facilities were as described and the property was well maintained with helpful additions such as DVDs and books. There is a balcony overlooking one of the huge and well maintained swimming pools, with further views to the mountains behind. The roof terrace is sizeable enough for 4 loungers, table and chairs drying rack etc. and has brilliant views across the sea to Los Lobos and Lanzarote. There are actually 2 massive pools to serve the complex and we never found either at all busy, even though we were there in the middle of the summer holidays.

The town of Corallejo is just a 20-25 min walk away, and a large supermarket is about 10 mins in the other direction. The town has bars, restaurants, beaches, water park and a harbour from which boat trips and the ferry to Lanzarote leave. Strongly recommend the "mini cruise" to Los Lobos which has one of the most beautiful beaches/crystal clear blue sea in which to swim, and which includes snorkelling off the back of the glass bottomed boat! Also recommend the ferry over to Lanzarote - you might see flying fish on the way!! Lots of fun tourist attractions to do there.

Free bus from Corallejo to the Zoo in the South of Fuerteventura - great Zoo where you get so close to the animals, you can stroke the giraffes! Tickets can be arranged by "Whats on!" -British chap in town with an office just off the main street, or probably online. If you hire a car, the mountain drive through the central area of the island is stunning.

This apartment was a brilliant base for exploring the island and we quickly felt really at home. Apartment manager was available for dealing with any problems, not that we really had any, and for providing transport from the airport, which is about 40 mins drive.

Strongly recommend this apartment. We would love to go back!

Excellent

  • 5 of 5

I would like to say we really enjoyed our stay in this Apartment. It had everything you could want for an excellent holiday.

It really looks much better in reality than photo,s. If it is a peaceful holiday you are looking for you will not get than this. A very convenient place to stay close to all amenities. Well maintained. Owner gave a very full description of the equipment and how to use them. We have already recommended to family and friends.

Location

From the Owner

A good location for us, quiet, private but with great communal facilities and no need to have a car.

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

The nearest beach is about 15 minutes walk away, and about 5 minutes further to Waikiki beach.

Baku water park, open from May to September, is some 15 minutes walk away, and has several water slides as well as other activities such as mini golf and tennis.

The Dunes natural park with protected desert areas, surf schools and 10km of golden sands starts at the edge of Corralejo, 20 minutes walk away or 5 minutes by car or bus.

Travel:

There are a variety of transfer options from Fuertaventura airport, some 40km south of Corralejo. These include transfer buses, local buses, hire cars and taxis.

Distances:

The seaside/surf resort of El Cotillo is some 15km west of Corralejo, and the mountainous interior of the island with its ancient capital of Betancuria is some 40km away. The south of the island with its famous dunes and beaches, and many resorts including Costa Calma and Morro Jable, is some 80km distant.

Further Details:

There are two 10 pin bowling alleys nearby, and regular weekly markets in the Campanario centre (Thursday and Sunday mornings) and the Baku water park (twice weekly, usually Monday and Friday). There is a mini golf/crazy golf course also at Baku, and plenty of places hiring bicycles, and others hiring quad bikes and offering other off-road safari style activities.
