Cottage in High Ellington, Masham, Yorkshire Dales, - Peaceful Location at southern end of Wensleydale.

Set adjacent to our farmhouse, The Stable is set in its own garden with a small terrace beyond the french windows and an adjacent paddock. Whether you want a quite, lazy holiday or a base from which to tour The Dales or Moors, High Ellington and The Stable are ideally located. The attractive market town of Masham, home of Theakstons and Black Sheep Ales is just two and a half miles away and offers a range of shopping facilities. Leyburn, Middleham, Bedale, Ripon and Thirsk are all within twenty minutes drive.Touring the area by car is a perfect way to enjoy the breathtaking scenery of The Dales and revel in the pleasure of driving on quiet, uncongested roads. For the more energetic, The Dales are a walker's dream with hundreds of unspoilt footpaths to explore. A wealth of stately homes, gardens, castles and abbeys are within easy reach.

Notes on accommodation: The Stable was converted in 1993 to a high specification and has been well maintained since then. It is set ajacent to the owners farmhouse but enjoys the privacy of its own garden. The gas central heating keeps the building comfortable and the woodburning stove is additional heating which has a great appeal. A dustbin full of logs is included in the price and additional logs can be purchased at £6 a bin full. We respectfully request our guests not to smoke in The Stable. WE REGRET NO PETS Outside: There is a small patio beyond the french windows and a bird bath and feeder which attracts many species including woodpeckers and nuthatches. Over 29 different species have been recorded by our guests so far. There is a table and chairs on the patio for outdoor dining. The half acre paddock is available for a gentle stroll. All linen and towels are included in the price. These are changed weekly.

The North Yorkshire Coast is about one and half hours drive from The Stable.


Durham, Newcastle and Leeds Bradford are all all within one and a half hour's drive. Because there is no public transport in High Ellington, a car is essential. The nearest railway stations are Thirsk and Northallerton, both half an hour from High Ellington.


Two and a half miles from Masham.

Lots of places of interest within an hours drive, including Harrogate, York and Leeds.

Further Details:

Masham has a full range of shops including two butchers, a bakers, greengrocers, chemist, bank and 3 galleries. There are many good eating places in the area and information is provided in The Stable. Gardens, Historic Houses and many places of interest are within easy reach. Fountains Abbey, a world heritage site, is just half an hour away. York with its cathedral, historic buildings and museums is an hour's drive. Sporting enthusiasts are well catered for with some of the finest golf courses, fishing and cricket. Racing is staged 140 days a year within the county. Local racecourses include Ripon, York, Catterick and Thirsk. There is a good range of information leaflets and guides in The Stable to help you plan your days out.

Fees No additional mandatory fees

Booking Notes:
During the high season (May to September) we accept booking for full weeks only from Saturday to Saturday.
A £50 non returnable deposit is required at the time of booking and the balance is due one month before your visit. We regret we cannot accept credit cards. Payments from abroad can be made by Bank Transfer.

Changeover Day:
Our normal changeover day is Saturday for weekly bookings. Guests are asked to vacate The Stable by 10.30 am on the day of departure and not to arrive before 3pm. For short breaks we can be flexible.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund for cancellations more than 30 days before check-in date.
  • 100% refund for cancellations more than 60 days before check-in date.
  • Service Fee fully refunded on cancellations that qualify for 100% refund.
