About the property

W492

Lower Porthmawr sits majestically above the internationally acclaimed Whitesands beach in the heart of the Pembrokeshire National Park. The views from the cottage are directly across the Irish Sea towards Ramsey Island and are truly spectacular. The cottage has been sympathetically renovated in the traditional Pembrokeshire style and following it's completion won the master builders national award. It is only a short walk to the Pembrokeshire coastal path and a 5 minute drive to the cathedral city of St Davids. Whitesands Roost is a barn conversion, and is on the same site as Lower Porthmawr. It sleeps 4 and boasts 2 private areas for viewing the coastline and Ramsey Island.

About Debbie Henchoz

I own both Lower Porthmawr and the Roost in Pembrokeshire which offer amazing coastal scenery and walking, relaxation and serenity, plus many adventure sports.

Please explore the site and choose which you would prefer

I look forward to hearing from you

Why Debbie Henchoz chose St Brides Bay, St Davids & The West Coast

The cottages are situated in one of the most amazing locations. They are in South Wales, 1 mile from St Davids, the smallest city in Wales, which has a beautiful cathedral and an assortment of restaurants, cafes and craft shops. However, the highlight of the location is that the cottages sit high on a hill looking directly over the Irish sea and across to Ramsey Island. The whole area, which includes the Pembrokeshire Coastal path - 180 miles - is a national park and therefore pristine. Whitesands Beach, beautiful in it's own right but also delightful for families with it's many rock pools, is also a haven for surfers and swimmers. The coast is home to many seals and the nearby Ramsey Sound hosts porpoise and an abundance of sea life.

What makes this barn unique

The cottages are only a 5 minute walk from Whitesands Beach and the coastal path and only a 15 minute walk to an isolated beach inaccessible by car. The views from the coastal path are incredible, whichever direction you walk in. The cottages have a variety of maps and guide books to help you find your way around. We do take dogs on request and the surrounding area is ideal for them. When guests have discovered Lower Porthmawr and The Roost, they return time and time again. Try it for yourself and you will see why.

A perfect retreat.

  • 5 of 5

Although we only stayed four four nights we had a lovely time and loved the layout of this unique cottage. We have never stayed anywhere quite like it. Although we had picked a time when the weather decided to throw heavy rain and gales at us, the cottage was never less than welcoming and cosy with everything catered for. The log burner heated the building to an extremely nice warmth in addition to the permanent background heating so that we felt really snug as the wind and rain lashed the windows. When the skies cleared for a day the cottage showed its true colours with magnificent views and just the right amount of privacy and isolation. Although the large plot is shared with another cottage, this in no way detracted from its charms and apart from an occasional nod and "hello" from the other holiday makers our peace and privacy were unaffected.

Owner's Response: I am delighted that so many guests take the time to write reviews. It's very much appreciated and if there are any problems I am always happy to address them. It's my greatest joy when I receive a personal and positive response and it also helps anyone who is potentially looking to book. I love my cottages and hope everyone who visits feels the same. My two caretakers are at the root of the success of the cottages, I could not be without them. Debbie

Beautiful location. Cottage well equipped with all mod cons.

  • 5 of 5

Whole experience was well organised by the owner, can't fault the organisation by the owner or anything about the property.

This was our first visit to Wales - is it always sunny? We were probably lucky & the great weather may have rose-tinted our review. The area is fantastic - amazing beach only 5 minute walk from the property (10 minutes back given the steep hill!), great rock-fishing, kids loved crabbing off the rocks, beautiful seas & coastal path walks, great walks up the crags directly behind the cottage.

The cottage itself is tastefully presented with all mod cons. Old character cottage but with modern decoration. Wood-burning stove is excellent & wood supplied at no extra charge. We almost wanted it to be colder so we could make more use of the stove!

Outside space was well used by the family & dogs. Amazing views, great bbq, very secluded.

We will definitely consider returning even though we have a family rule never to go to the same place twice - tells you all you need to know.

An everything-just-so cottage in a very special location

  • 4 of 5

The Roost came up to our every expectation and more, and was just-so in terms of equipment, furnishings, and all other comforts.

The location is just so interesting, with Whitesands Bay, St David's Headland and so much coastal path so directly walkable within minutes from the Roost.

Lovely cottage

  • 5 of 5

I stayed with my husband, three small boys and dog. We all loved the feature-filled property and had a great time at the nearby beach. The walk along the coastal path was fantastic.
