Coastal Cottages - Amazing Sea Views - The Roost

Overview

Property

Updated: 08-Dec-2016
Two 2 bedroom cottages above Whitesands beach, St. Davids, Pembrokeshire

Lower Porthmawr sits majestically above the internationally acclaimed Whitesands beach in the heart of the Pembrokeshire National Park. The views from the cottage are directly across the Irish Sea towards Ramsey Island and are truly spectacular. The cottage has been sympathetically renovated in the traditional Pembrokeshire style and following it's completion won the master builders national award. It is only a short walk to the Pembrokeshire coastal path and a 5 minute drive to the cathedral city of St Davids. Whitesands Roost is a barn conversion, and is on the same site as Lower Porthmawr. It sleeps 4 and boasts 2 private areas for viewing the coastline and Ramsey Island.

Details for holiday barn The Roost , 2 Bedrooms, Sleeps 5, 1 Bathroom

On the ground floor the traditionally converted barn boasts a kitchen/diner & bathroom with shower, where there is underfloor heating, dining table & chairs and a settee, electric fan oven, washing machine, dishwasher, microwave & fridge & freezer. Upstairs there are 2 bedrooms, one with a king size bed & the other a twin with single beds. In addition there is a lounge with a wood burning stove, TV with Free View, settee and chairs, DVD & a large scenic window.

Outside

There is a small patio area housing outdoor table & chairs and a BBQ.

A few steps further up the hill is one of the most romantic spots in Pembrokeshire - a small seated area with views straight across to Ramsey island and the sea - your own personal bit of heaven.

Amazing and comfortable stay

  • 5 of 5

Loved it. 'The Roost' is so welcoming and comfortable. Amazing views, great walks on your doorstep, boat rides just a short car journey away. Debbie was fantastic when booking. Can't wait to visit again next year. So pleased I picked this one.

The Roost is an interesting barn conversion set high on a hillside above White sands bay.

  • 4 of 5

The Roost is very warm, comfortable and well equipped. It provides a very good base for exploring the Pembroke coastal path and Whitesands bay is just a short walk.

Nearby St David's is an interesting little city with a good selection of small, quality food shops. We only ate out at The Bishops which provides decent quality pub food.

The Cathedral and Bishop's Palace are gems.

My only criticism regarding the property concerns the ceiling height in the double bedroom. I am not particularly tall but I could only move around by constantly crouching.

Owner's Response: Thank you for a very informative review, it will help other guests enjoy the surrounding area. I look forward to welcoming you back and apologies regarding the low ceiling on the outskirts of the bedroom, the planners were not too happy to lift the ceiling any further. However, if you decide to return Lower Porthmawr has higher ceilings. Yours Debbie

Lovely quirky cottage fantastic location,idyllic

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at the Roost, out of the way from the noise and bustle but close enough for all amenities, short walk to a great family friendly beach but also close to the coastal path for longer walks straight from the door

Fantastic cottage by the sea

  • 5 of 5

Just got back from a fantastic relaxing week in The Roost. What a find this is an amazing cottage right by the sea, the sea view is not brilliant but the position more than makes up for it. It has the most amazing shower head which I am going to order now I am home. Lots to do and no end of beautiful walks, the coastal paths are fantastic, our dog Toby loved his week here. Will definitely be back.

Owner's Response: Hi Amanda Thank you for your review and I have taken account of the limited view from the Roost so will be erecting a wind shield which will enable better views from the Roost viewpoint. I look forward to hearing from you again Debbie

Good winter break

  • 4 of 5

Very comfortable and well equipped cottage, with excellent heating . 5 mins walk from the beach and coastal path, and good for dog lovers. Some spectacular walks and scenery, highly recommend (although the view of bay bit restricted).

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review Steve. I'm pleased that you enjoyed your stay and I have plans to erect a wind protector on the viewing point which will enable Roost guests to sit and enjoy full views of the coast. Hope to hear from you again Debbie

Gale Force Heaven

  • 5 of 5

Just come back from another thoroughly brilliant stay at The Roost. Took everything that storms Abigail and Barney could throw at it and the added bonus of the new woodburning stove meant that we could leave the storms outside and hunker down in front of a roaring fire while they did their level best to take the roof off the cottage....Amazing!

Constant trips down to the windswept sands of Whitesands, Marloes and beyond really helped blow the cobwebs away and left us feeling totally refreshed and like we'd been on holiday for ages.

Just the break we needed, so thanks so much Debbie for allowing us to use your heavenly hideaway again.

We'll be back.

Owner's Response: So pleased that you coped with the wild weather and appreciated the wood burner after combating the elements. Whitesands is very special place and chooses it's weather randomly so am delighted you absorbed it's beauty and wilderness at this time of year. Thank you for such an exciting review, hope The Roost sees you again soon Yours Debbie

Location

From the Owner

The cottages are situated in one of the most amazing locations. They are in South Wales, 1 mile from St Davids, the smallest city in Wales, which has a beautiful cathedral and an assortment of restaurants, cafes and craft shops. However, the highlight of the location is that the cottages sit high on a hill looking directly over the Irish sea and across to Ramsey Island. The whole area, which includes the Pembrokeshire Coastal path - 180 miles - is a national park and therefore pristine. Whitesands Beach, beautiful in it's own right but also delightful for families with it's many rock pools, is also a haven for surfers and swimmers. The coast is home to many seals and the nearby Ramsey Sound hosts porpoise and an abundance of sea life.

Facilities

From the Owner

The cottages are only a 5 minute walk from Whitesands Beach and the coastal path and only a 15 minute walk to an isolated beach inaccessible by car. The views from the coastal path are incredible, whichever direction you walk in. The cottages have a variety of maps and guide books to help you find your way around. We do take dogs on request and the surrounding area is ideal for them. When guests have discovered Lower Porthmawr and The Roost, they return time and time again. Try it for yourself and you will see why.
