Coastal Cottages - Amazing Sea Views - Lower Porthmawr Sleeps 5 (2 Bedrooms)

Updated: 28-Oct-2016
Two 2 bedroom cottages above Whitesands beach, St. Davids, Pembrokeshire

Lower Porthmawr sits majestically above the internationally acclaimed Whitesands beach in the heart of the Pembrokeshire National Park. The views from the cottage are directly across the Irish Sea towards Ramsey Island and are truly spectacular. The cottage has been sympathetically renovated in the traditional Pembrokeshire style and following it's completion won the master builders national award. It is only a short walk to the Pembrokeshire coastal path and a 5 minute drive to the cathedral city of St Davids. Whitesands Roost is a barn conversion, and is on the same site as Lower Porthmawr. It sleeps 4 and boasts 2 private areas for viewing the coastline and Ramsey Island.

Fantastic Whitesands stay

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is in the perfect location and the perfect place to stay whatever the weather - and you get four seasons in one day in Pembrokeshire. We love the Aga, the comfy beds, and the loo with the view but it's the location that is totally unbeatable. Whitesands is a 2 minute walk, Porthmelgan less than 10 minutes away and great walks galore are right on the doorstep. This was our second visit and we can't wait to come back again.

Perfect !

  • 5 of 5

The owners have created just the right mix of a relaxed approach to holiday letting with everything you would need during your stay. Sometimes you can feel a little 'perched' in someone elses home but not here ! No little notes everywhere that can make your teeth itch sometimes. We will definately be back. So much to recommend locally............ Where do I start. Fantastic location. Cosy when the weather turns too !

Fabulous cottage with great views

  • 5 of 5

Lovely cottage, very secluded other than the Roost behind. I don't think I have ever stayed in such a warm and cosy cottage and the memory foam mattress on the King size bed was an unexpected pleasure. Soon got to grips with the Aga and enjoyed a very deep, hot bath in the claw foot, looking out to sea as I did so. Great walks from the door. Spectacular views over White Sands Bay. The hopper bus runs from the bottom of the hill into St Davids and over to Porthclais, although it was a struggle to leave the sunken, sheltered garden when the sun shone!

Would highly recommend. We loved it!

Lovely cottage; glorious views

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week staying in Lower Porthmawr. The cottage is in a great location, overlooking Whitesand Bay and Ramsey Island: the views are stunning. It is an easy 10 minute walk down to the beach (though a bit more energetic going back up!). The cottage is very well equipped, has lots of space for boots, bodyboards, etc, and is warm and homely. An Aga, underfloor heating and a wood burning stove kept us nice and toasty after several blowy days spent on the beach or the coastal paths. It has lots of outdoor space, and a fine stone bench for tide-watching! In the summer, it would be lovely to dine outside on the patio overlooking the Bay. The cottage is a short car ride to St Davids, with its lovely cathedral and good shops (we recommend Gianni's for icecream ...). A boat trip around Ramsey, and/or a landing on the Island is recommended. There are many gorgeous beaches to choose from, and fabulous coastal paths. We hope to return!

excellent property

  • 5 of 5

Lower Porth mawr is without doubt the best self catering holiday cottage we have stayed in. From the stunning location looking out over Whitesands Bay to the level of comfort of the interior.

We arrived on a cold wet windswept day to a warm and cosy cottage. The wood-burner had been layed ready to light, the underfloor heating was on, keeping the flagstone floors warm enough to wander around barefoot and the warmth of the Aga made the very well equipped kitchen a joy to cook and eat in.

It is obvious that a great deal of care and attention have gone into setting up this cottage. There was everything here to make our stay perfect. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, the bedding crisps and fresh, an endless supply of hot water and unlimited logs for the wood-burner.

We would definitely return for another stay and cannot recommend it highly enough.

From the Owner

The cottages are situated in one of the most amazing locations. They are in South Wales, 1 mile from St Davids, the smallest city in Wales, which has a beautiful cathedral and an assortment of restaurants, cafes and craft shops. However, the highlight of the location is that the cottages sit high on a hill looking directly over the Irish sea and across to Ramsey Island. The whole area, which includes the Pembrokeshire Coastal path - 180 miles - is a national park and therefore pristine. Whitesands Beach, beautiful in it's own right but also delightful for families with it's many rock pools, is also a haven for surfers and swimmers. The coast is home to many seals and the nearby Ramsey Sound hosts porpoise and an abundance of sea life.

From the Owner

The cottages are only a 5 minute walk from Whitesands Beach and the coastal path and only a 15 minute walk to an isolated beach inaccessible by car. The views from the coastal path are incredible, whichever direction you walk in. The cottages have a variety of maps and guide books to help you find your way around. We do take dogs on request and the surrounding area is ideal for them. When guests have discovered Lower Porthmawr and The Roost, they return time and time again. Try it for yourself and you will see why.
