About the property

W492

Lower Porthmawr sits majestically above the internationally acclaimed Whitesands beach in the heart of the Pembrokeshire National Park. The views from the cottage are directly across the Irish Sea towards Ramsey Island and are truly spectacular. The cottage has been sympathetically renovated in the traditional Pembrokeshire style and following it's completion won the master builders national award. It is only a short walk to the Pembrokeshire coastal path and a 5 minute drive to the cathedral city of St Davids. Whitesands Roost is a barn conversion, and is on the same site as Lower Porthmawr. It sleeps 4 and boasts 2 private areas for viewing the coastline and Ramsey Island.

About Debbie Henchoz

I own both Lower Porthmawr and the Roost in Pembrokeshire which offer amazing coastal scenery and walking, relaxation and serenity, plus many adventure sports.

Please explore the site and choose which you would prefer

I look forward to hearing from you

Why Debbie Henchoz chose St Brides Bay, St Davids & The West Coast

The cottages are situated in one of the most amazing locations. They are in South Wales, 1 mile from St Davids, the smallest city in Wales, which has a beautiful cathedral and an assortment of restaurants, cafes and craft shops. However, the highlight of the location is that the cottages sit high on a hill looking directly over the Irish sea and across to Ramsey Island. The whole area, which includes the Pembrokeshire Coastal path - 180 miles - is a national park and therefore pristine. Whitesands Beach, beautiful in it's own right but also delightful for families with it's many rock pools, is also a haven for surfers and swimmers. The coast is home to many seals and the nearby Ramsey Sound hosts porpoise and an abundance of sea life.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottages are only a 5 minute walk from Whitesands Beach and the coastal path and only a 15 minute walk to an isolated beach inaccessible by car. The views from the coastal path are incredible, whichever direction you walk in. The cottages have a variety of maps and guide books to help you find your way around. We do take dogs on request and the surrounding area is ideal for them. When guests have discovered Lower Porthmawr and The Roost, they return time and time again. Try it for yourself and you will see why.

Beautiful, soul provoking & totally idealilic!

  • 5 of 5

I booked this beautiful cottage last minute as soon I saw the photographs on Owners Direct and stayed there between 7th to 14th Feb 2017... It was exactly what I was looking for after taking early retirement from a stressful career. I was after isolation away from crowds of people, a relaxing homely cottage environment with a woodburner and stunning views of the coast to wake up to every morning during our stay... And that's exactly what Lower Porthmawr offered!

It truly is a stunning location. The cottage has been lovingly rebuilt and I felt relaxed as soon as I drove up to the house and entered the building. It is very rustic inside with a very warming woodburner, with plenty of wood. We did take some along with us but there was an ample supply made available. There is an electric Aga to keep you cosy in the kitchen and plenty of fridge and freezer space and washing/tumble drier if needed. The bedrooms were set in the roof space wjth very comfortable bedding and mattress in the master bedroom. You can hear the awesome roar of the sea and see the sea and Whitesands Beach from most of the windows. The beach is only a short walk away and there is a superb walking route up to the crag behind the cottage.

As we arrived late into the evening we had the lovely caretaker calling us to make sure we had settled in OK which was reassuring because you are pretty isolated in this cottage. The Roost, a smaller apartment located in a barn behind the cottage was also occupied but you would never know there was anyone staying there unless you saw their vehicle.

This property is stunning and a true place to reflect and rejuvenate one's mind and soul... I would love to own and live there myself as it was that inspirational! So Debbie if you decide to sell??

The only advice I would give is to take your time driving up the private track to the cottage. It's rugged, narrow and with large stones in places, For my 4x4 it was fine, but if you have a standard or low rise vehicle just take your time to drive up the incline. When you do, there's ample parking immediately outside the cottage and a lovely grassed area to exercise your dog which is fenced off yet not totally enclosed from the track. It also has a fab BBC area.

I have no negatives to this property as it was exactly what I needed so thank you Debbie for sharing a part of your history.

If you are after a rustic retreat anytime of the year, this is the place for you... You won't be disappointed.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for taking the time to write this amazingly detailed review Louisa, it has been a pleasure talking with you and I'm delighted that you wish to return early next year. If, and only if, I ever wish to sell I will contact you, although my 2 children are at the top of the list if it ever gets too much for me Yours Debbie

A beautifully restored cottage in a stunning location. A perfect place to escape to.

  • 5 of 5

Underfloor heating, the aga and a plentiful supply of logs ensured we were always cosy as the west wind howled across the bay! The beauty of the constantly changing sky as we enjoyed bracing walks on the beach was uplifting. Dogs are allowed on the beach out of season which was perfect for our pup, as was the garden outside the cottage. Highly recommended, thank you Debbie.

Owner's Response: Whitesands is in a class of it's own as it can be wild and wonderful, or calm and collected, showing off the most amazing sunsets. The walks with or without your canine friends are for ever changing. There is now a new, impressive Lifeboat station at St. Justinians, well worth a visit to see and you may then decide to take a trip around Ramsey or one of the many islands that host a a myriad or birdlife or you may be honoured to see a pod of porpoise or even whales. Absolutely perfect in every way!

  • 5 of 5

Traditional charm, modern comforts and stunning location - does not get any better than this for a break away from it all. We return year on year - the Aga, the warm stone floors, the Woodburner - all perfect to come back to after a day walking, swimming and exploring. Plenty of room to play in and out and just one of our favourite places to be in the world.

Simply perfect - even in a storm

  • 5 of 5

The location couldn't be bettered - as it says, amazing sea views but still very private. Simply and tastefully decorated; warm as toast come the evening and very clean. We've stayed in many, many cottages; this is one of very few that we'd come back to. Just wish it was ours!
