Charming Stone Villa - Secluded, Tranquil, Sea And Mountain View, Sleeps 7

Overview

Property

Updated: 22-Nov-2016
Villa in Agia Paraskevi, Kerames, - Quiet And Peaceful - 5 Minutes Drive To Lovely Coast With Its Unspoilt Beaches

Preveli House and Garden Studio are located in the quiet village of Agia Paraskevi which lies between Agia Galini and Preveli, set between dramatic mountain scenery and the coast with miles of unspoilt sandy beaches, all just a few minutes drive away. For those of a more active disposition, the beaches can be reached by walking down the lanes through the olive groves. The local beach is Ligres with a fabulous sandy beach with good swimming and two tavernas. A little further away is the Fotini Taverna in a wonderful romantic spot right by the sea. This is a must visit place !! The huge sandy Triopetra beach has a cluster of tavernas at one end , some with sunbeds. All the local beaches are quiet even in the height of summer. In addition you can sample the local Cretan cuisine in various small traditional tavernas located in the nearby mountain villages. Try the one in the centre of Kerames and watch the old men drink their coffee and play dominoes . Wonderful places with excellent wi-fi and a picturesque village setting. Fantastic sea views from Kerames, just walk around the village. Our villa is fifteen years old, stone built, and stands alone in private walled gardens along a lane, on the edge of the village. We are very private and secluded. We have a large garden Ideal for sun bathing on sun deck, terraces and also shady quiet areas for relaxation.... There are two pleasant places to eat within a few minutes walk. Agia Paraskevi is a perfect place for a quiet holiday away from the crowded resorts but still offering lots to do and see, great beaches, great views and peace and quiet. We have very little light pollution so you can enjoy sitting on the terrace with a glass of wine gazing up at the stars in the night sky. At night the sound of the waves on Ligres beach can be heard. By day the tinkle of the sheep bells as they graze nearby.

About the Owner

We are John and Sheila and we live in Derbyshire UK. John is now retired after running his own business for thirty years and Sheila has now retired after many years as a Community Psychiatric Nurse. We have four children and five lovely Grandchildren .

Although we both enjoy peace and tranquility we also really enjoy socialising and the area of Agia Paraskevi gives us both. The local villages of Kerames and Dramiskos both have traditional tavernas where the local old men gather in the evenings to have a drink of coffee or racki and a chat.

It is a lovely unspoilt area and very well worth the journey. Why not come and see for yourself.

John,

I just wanted to drop you line to say thank you once again for the use of your villa last month.

It really is beautiful and so relaxing, and I hope I can request a stay next spring a little nearer the time.

Many thanks, John L

Lovely, peaceful hideaway in a beautiful location.

Great stay, lovely location and stunning views. The house itself is simple, clean and quite traditional with a great, sheltered terrace to sit in the sun and a splash pool for the kids.

Will definitely stay again.

Perfect

We thoroughly enjoyed our two week stay, which must rate as one of our best holidays. The property was excellent - lovingly maintained - and the location was exactly as we wanted - a tranquil site set in unspoilt scenery and within easy reach of quiet undeveloped beaches. The property, although secluded, is not far from the local village and tavernas. The roads can be a little daunting at first, but they are generally well maintained, if narrow in places. A car is essential.

Fab holiday destination

  • 4 of 5

We had a fabulous 2 weeks here. The house was just what we needed in a lovely secluded and unspoilt location and had great outdoor living space with a beautiful view down to the sea. The local beach, Triopetra, was one of the best beaches we found, and we'd thoroughly recommend Adoni's taverna there. The MiniMarket in Kerames seemed to be open all hours and provided everything we needed including fresh bread daily. Don't come here if you're after the nightlife party scene, but definitely do if you want to experience beautiful unspoilt Southern Crete.

Location

From the Owner

We love Agia Paraskevi because of the remoteness, tranquility and the unspoilt beaches. The spectacular views of the mountains, the lovely unspoilt hill villages , the friendliness of the local people. There are several miles of beaches just down the hill through the olive groves. A few minutes drive and the choice is yours. Ligres and Triopetra beaches both have a choice of 2 tavernas to have lazy lunches or early evening drinks and both are ideal for families.Triopetra has a few sunloungers provided by the tavernas but these are unobtrusive. There are wild remote beaches with fantastic geology and drift wood and also sandy coves and inlets all waiting to be explored. After a few days here we feel totally relaxed. It's a great place to be! The weather, of course, is usually really good.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Heraklion or Chania at 75 Kilometres Nearest Barpub : Pegasus Hotel at 0.5 Kilometres Nearest Restaurant : Pegasus Hotel at 0.5 Kilometres Nearest Beach : Ligres at 2 Kilometres Car: necessary

Coast/Beach:

A twenty minute walk from our house through olive groves and tracks to the coast area with lovely beaches or few minutes drive. The beaches are sandy, unspoilt and never busy. The Ligres beach is an ideal family beach with the traditional Ligres Taverna overlooking it. Great for a beer in the afternoon as well! The Triopetra beach is very long and as yet unspoilt with a few tavernas at the far end offering free sunbeds for customers. There are lots of coves and bays to explore.

Travel:

Heraklion or Chania Airports are both around 2 hours and 20 minutes drive to Agia Paraskevi. Although a fair drive both are very straightforward. Car hire is essential. Flights from Manchester, East Midlands, Gatwick, Heathrow, Bristol. Try Jet 2 or Easy jet amongst others. RyanAir has flights to Chania For car hire, airlines often do a good deal otherwise try Autoway or Justrentals via their web site. Both offer all inclusive prices no hidden insurance extras !! Agia Paraskevi is a lovely place. Remote and so peaceful - very well worth the journey!

Distances:

Spili with its Venetian fountains, supermarket, shops and cafes is about 30 minutes drive, Rythmnon is about an hour and has a fabulous old town with myriad lanes full of shops and cafes to explore. Look out for Cretan traditional music and instrument makers . Preveli with beaches, gorge and monastery, the charming fishing port of Agia Galini with its selection of good restaurants. The Minoen Palace of Phaistos and the Roman cemetery and hippies at Matala. The lovely Amari Valley is nearby.

Further Details:

Internet: we have wi fi installed at the house and it is usually excellent . The mobile phone signal is also good. There is also good free wi-fi just 5 minutes walk up the hill at Pegasus Hotel. There is also wi-fi now at most local taverna's. The attractive village of Kerames has free wi-fi in the village centre. There is also a mini market at Kerames . Main Shopping can be done in Spilli which has several good internet cafes as well as local supermarkets. Hera are several cash dispensers..Mosts guests will drive through Spili on their way to Agia Paraskevi from the airport. There are several local tavernas all of which offer excellant local traditional foods and all at very reasonable costs. It is difficult to choose a favourite taverna as the standard is so high and the prices very reasonable but Fortini, Pavlo's and Adonis are outstanding. The village of Ayia Paraskevi has two small hotels with good sized pools which you can use for the price of a drink.

Places to visit, Ayia Galini, Palm Beach at Preveli and Spilli are all well worth a visit and only a short drive away. If you missed the Palace of Knossos on the journey down you can visit Phaistos another very interesting ancient palace! Further round is Matala where the hippies used to gather and visited by Bob Dylan There is a music festival every year.. It a lovely place but fairly busy..
