About Katia

This has been a family holiday home for several years.

You will the find the house much more of a home than just a holiday rental. It has been "touched" with an artistic eye.

Katia purchased this villa in 2003

Why Katia chose Syracuse Province

A very good freind of ours recommended buying a property around Noto in Sicily. He is an imaginative and wise person and we immediately fell in love with the region. Noto is very unspoilt whilst still being a very sophisticated city. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and the beaches out of this world. The Sicilians are incredibly kind and freindly. Our children really love their holidays there as do we.

What makes this villa unique

Quiet calm location that is only 2.5 km from a world heritage city Noto where you can eat the most wonderful Italian food. Noto is also home to one of the top ten gelatarias in the world, Cafe Sicilia, as described by the New York Times.

We have a great river to cool down in and from our house you can enjoy the most amazing walks and discover waterfalls and streams along the way.

The house is comfortable and has been designed as a comfortable yet authentic Sicilian country home.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Evans Australia: Il Molino in Noto, Sicily. We absolutely loved this house. The entire house was bright and spacious, well equipped and very welcoming. The kitchen was huge and had all the equipment you could need to feel perfectly at home. The verandah was so perfect for relaxing and eating on and we couldnt have asked for a more beautiful setting. We stayed in many different houses and apartments during a long 6 week holiday around Italy and France. We have just returned home and can easily say that Il Molino house in Noto was by far our favorite. Katie M, UK: We had the most wonderful week at Il Molino. It is a very special spot and you have made the little house so comfortable. We are most grateful that you let us share your home. It definitely felt more like a home and not at all like a “holiday let” and we enjoyed every minute of the beach and solitude (not to mention the fresh orange juice off the trees). The weather was brilliant – not a cloud in the sky the entire 7 days.

A truly tranquil retreat in a stunning location and fabulous house.

I had high hopes for the Casa Mulino if the photographs and reviews were anything to go by, and was not disappointed - so refreshing to find the photos really do give an accurate reflection of the property. Having spent a week sailing around the Aeolian Islands we were specifically looking for a quiet country location to kickback and relax in and Casa Mulino ticked all the boxes. In fact it was so delightful to sit on the large shaded terrace taking breakfast, reading, chatting or simply gazing upon the valley views it was an effort to get ourselves out to tour the area.

We loved the house, a real home from home, with lots of character details, personal touches and very well equipped throughout. Beautiful decoration, plenty of kitchen equipment, great shower, comfortable beds, very clean and loads and loads of space - we were just a couple, but even a large family group would be swallowed up easily in this roomy property. Loved (and appreciated) the thoughtful touch of leaving some mosquito spray and supplying anti bug devices.

Nicola was extremely helpful, great English and very happy to come to our aid when we got a puncture and needed help contacting the local tyre company on our behalf. Katia was also very helpful and responsive in all my dealings during booking and prior to our arrival. The information sheet you are supplied with is really very comprehensive and full of local information and restaurant recommendations.

We didn't really visit the beaches in the area, but Noto and Syracuse were both really beautiful towns to while away an afternoon; we had a lovely lunch at Marzamemi and took a tour up Etna as well one day - well worth the journey. A walk in the National Park area of Fendicari was also atmospheric and lovely to watch the flamingos.

Other reviewers have mentioned the track approaching the house - and yes it is pretty lumpy, but then the position of this lovely holiday home deep in the valley surrounded by olive trees and lemon groves is what makes it so very special - you just don't hear traffic: only the occasional voices travelling over the valley from the few houses opposite. My highlight? In the early morning, sitting on the terrace listening to a woman singing what could have been Italian folk songs as she pruned her lemon tree on the opposite side of the valley!

Would definitely recommend this as a relaxing holiday location and ideal for a family gathering.

Wonderful location

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week at Casa Mulino with our friends and we loved the 'away from it all' feel of this property. Overlooking the valley from the terrace in the mornings was idyllic. The villa was extremely well equipped - although a microwave would have been a bonus - and Nichola, who met us and showed us round the villa, was extremely helpful. Noto was only a few minutes away by car and an ideal base for touring south east Sicily. Wifi was reliable.

The booking process was efficient and any queries before our trip were answered speedily. Highly recommended.

Beautiful, well-equipped villa

  • 4 of 5

Our family of 2 adults and three teenagers enjoyed a wonderful week in Sicily, based at this beautiful villa just outside Noto. The villa itself was spacious, spotless and very well-equipped, with a lovely patio and outside dining area looking out over the surrounding hills. Carla and Nicola were incredibly helpful and attentive in dealing with any queries - they are great ambassadors for Sicily! We were glad we had taken out fully comprehensive insurance on our hire car as the unpaved road to the villa is tough on vehicles.

We made lemonade with the lemons from the trees around the villa - a delicious refreshing treat on the days when we didn't venture too far. We spent most of our time exploring the variety of magnificent beaches a short drive away. You are spoilt for choice where they are concerned. We were disappointed that the swimming area in the river was not what we had been expecting. One of the reasons we chose this villa was that the children would be able to swim whenever they wanted. However, the water was not deep enough for them to do so.

Noto is a lovely town with a plethora of restaurants to choose from, but if you choose to cook at the villa, the kitchen has every utensil and piece of equipment you could wish for. The supermarket at Avola is close by for general shopping, and the fresh food market in Siracusa is worth a trip for the colour, smells and bustle.

Owner's Response: Hello I am really glad that you loved the house but I am really, really sorry to hear that you didn't get to swim in the main swimming area. Unfortunately our gardener had not cleared the route to the deep water where it is 5 feet deep and approximately 40feet long.

A very special place

  • 5 of 5

A very special place to let go and loose yourself in really enchanting surroundings. We cooled off in the river, drank from the spring, found waterfalls and deep pools to swim in and walked to Noto antica. There is also a nature reserve nearby, beaches and the beautiful town of Noto.

So there is plenty to do nearby but always so tempting to just do nothing, pick some fruit of a tree relax and read a book on the veranda.

Will be here again.

The perfect family holiday

  • 5 of 5

The house is set against an ancient landscape, surrounded by olive, orange and walnut trees and the view was breath-taking. The house is spacious, clean and had everything I needed.

My children enjoyed picking fruit and playing in the garden, and taking dips in the river to cool off. It was a magical experience for them. My youngest son, has stated that it is his 'favourite place in the whole wide world'- and we have travelled extensively.

It's an easy journey from the airport, and the baroque town of Noto ( a UNESCO world heritage site) is just down the road. It was perfect for our three young children, as they can safely explore the town and parks, and the spectacular architecture, churches and amazing food kept us all happy. Sitting relaxing on the veranda, ice-cream, the warm ocean and the safe swimming bays along the coast ensured a memorable and brilliant family holiday. We have been back to this place several times and it loses nothing outside of season.
