Somer house is a cotswold style stone cottage located directly on the largest lake of the exclusive and award winning Lower Mill Estate. The cottage boasts some some the best views on the estate and has a large deck with dining area and bbq overlooking the water. It has private access to the lake via it's own jetty and has been recently decorated in a comfortable and contempary style. The accommodation comprises of 4 bedrooms and two bathrooms with downstairs loo and separate utility. Somer House is perfect for families and couples alike.
We have a young family that loves the outdoors - sailing, windsurfing, waterski-ing, BBQ's and entertaining friends. We bought the house as a place to bring the kids up to appreciate the outdoors and to have fun.
Ineke Harirs purchased this house in 2009
we grew up in this area and wanted a special place for our kids to grow up in too.
The house has one of the best locations in the whole estate.
The house was very clean and so homely. The log fire was wonderful in the evenings and the decor is beautifully done. The views were out of this world and it added to the peaceful feel of the house. We would definitely stay again and we highly recommend it to others. Di, Helen, Is and Sheila.
Our family of four and friends had a brilliant week not dampened by the wet weather! The two upstairs bathrooms made it perfect for two families holidaying together . The log fire was constantly on due to novelty factor. We enjoyed trips to Bourton on the water (kids loved the model village), mooching round the nice shops / coffee shops/ pubs in Cirencester, Swindon designer outlet, Cheltenham races, Gloucester rugby and a show in Oxford. Would love to visit in summer for walks , bike rides and to enjoy the decked area with great views over lake .
We stayed here for 4 nights over the Christmas period. The house was beautifully decorated in a cosy, country cottage style with a wood burner and 3 comfy sofas in the sitting room. Lots of interesting pictures and numerous candles added to the homely feel.
The owner, who was very helpful, supplied a decorated Christmas tree which was lovely.
Upstairs the 2 double beds were particularly comfortable.
The views of the lake from the sitting room and the deck were lovely too. The house is in a beautiful location and there is a smallish shop close by and a very new, oak-beamed, barn-style restaurant too.
We have no hesitation in recommending Somer House.
What a beautiful, family friendly house. We stayed here for a long weekend to celebrate my birthday. The location is great, very peaceful and family friendly. House was cosy and we didn't feel the need to tell the children to not touch anything. Plenty of toys and books for them to use as well. Good sized bedrooms, one with a balcony and stunning view of the lake. 2 bathrooms and a cloakroom. Nice comfy lounge with plenty of seating. The best thing was the decking over looking the lake with a large table and bbq. The site has an outdoor pool, playing field and park, which my nephews loved. The only down side we could see was the shop is small and expensive and nowehere on site to have a meal or drink. However local Tesco less than 10 minutes away and plenty of places locally to eat and drink but you will need a car. All in all a lovely weekend and we hope to be baxk next year for a week if we can.
We booked the lake house quite last minute for ourselves and another family, to celebrate my birthday. The location is beautiful and offered all the peace and tranquility I hoped for. What really worked well for us was the great environment for our children (aged 9-12) to play and explore safety (no fast moving vehicles on the estate, bit like tiny centre parks- parking areas but little moving traffic) but also lovely for us grown- ups...sauna, pool (5min walk) and great BBQ terrace overlooking the lake.
Cirencester is lovely with really good butchers & fishmongers and local pub (the Bakers) is an easy walk for a pint.
We're looking forward to a revisit soon- recommend for family groups particularly.
A truly wonderful place. I've been here on several occasions and the whole family absolutely loves it. The estate is beautiful and doesn't feel like an estate at all - it's so well laid out and sympathetically designed. When you are looking out over the lake from the deck or the main bedroom you could be somewhere much more exotic and far flung than the Cotswolds but you can enjoy it without the hassle and cost of travelling further afield.
There's so much to do - it's a great place for kids to cycle around, walks to be taken around the lakes, tennis courts, swimming pool, trampoline, a crystal clear stream to play in - and that's just on the site - there's heaps more to do in the local area. There's a gorgeous little shop/cafe for essentials and home comforts like morning coffees, pastries and treats like afternoon icecreams etc.
The house itself is beautifully appointed, stylishly decorated and very comfortable. My only hesitation in recommending it is that I might not be able to book again in myself!
