About Ian Clark

We bought the house when we were living and working in London, as a complete contrast to our life in that city. We and our family spend as much time as we can at the house, but we have decided to let it for those weeks when otherwise it would be unoccupied as it seems a waste to leave it empty when it could be enjoyed.

Ian Clark purchased this house in 2007

Why Ian Clark chose Caprese Michelangelo

We were simply bowled over by this part of Tuscany when we came on a visit, by the landscape, the food, the historic walled towns and the culture and we decided to make a second home here. This area has a real feeling of being a world away from life in the UK, like stepping back in time to an earlier, simpler, gentler and more relaxed age, yet it also has fantastic art and interesting places to explore.

Guestbook comments from the owner

“Just leaving Villa Bengodi after a wonderful week- we really liked the area and had some good walks. We really liked the villa and felt very at home. It was very tastefully furnished and comfortable to live in- the view over the Tuscan Hills from the terrace is inspiring and the peaceful and tranquil setting makes it an easy place to switch off and relax”. (JR, Kent 2012)

“Villa Bengodi is gorgeous..it suited us perfectly. The pool was the biggest hit..put to use every day! We had a fabulous day at the beach, gorgeous pizza in Anghiari and a lovely relaxing time. Thank you so much for a fabulous 10 days.” (RPC, London 2012)

“We had a thoroughly relaxing break..Waking up to the views from the bedrooms was a definite plus, your pool was a big big hit with our two boys and of course the food and prosecco were overindulged in!” (TH, Surrey 2012)

"We loved our time there- it was a trip of a lifetime." (MR, NJ USA 2013)

".. a wonderful holiday in your fantastic villa.." (NC, Lincoln 2013)

Stunning home in a beautiful and relaxing location

  • 5 of 5

We had an absolutely fantastic two week stay at Villa Bengodi. We were two families, (4 adults and 5 children) and the villa was spot on in terms of size and facilities for us. The house had literally everything we needed to make ourselves at home. The huge swimming pool, gardens and amazing views made this a very special holiday for both adults and children. So much space and privacy for swimming, exploring and just relaxing.

The location is an ideal base for experiencing real Italian life (very few tourists), with great local restaurants serving delicious traditional Tuscan food and welcoming families. There is ample opportunity to explore the more famous historic towns and cities if you don't mind driving further afield, or closer lovely local towns with restaurants, woods, walks, churches, shops and bars.

This home is beautifully decorated and a real holiday treat. We went with a view to exploring Tuscany and Umbria (which we did a little) but found the location just too perfect to want to move very far. We managed the holiday goal of just switching off and making the most of the perfect, peaceful and thoroughly relaxing surroundings, usually very hard to do with 5 children under 8, but they were constantly occupied with the pool and garden!

Ian was very helpful when booking the villa and providing local information. We could not recommend this villa and location enough if you want to switch off, relax and enjoy all that Italy has to offer from a very comfortable and beautiful traditional Tuscan home.

Beautiful house in stunning location.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for a week in the wonderful Villa Bengodi but I wish it had been a month. The house has been beautifully renovated and is simply but comfortably furnished. It was spotlessly clean when we arrived and the view from the terrace took our breath away. The kids were straight in the pool before we'd even unpacked and the adults enjoyed a nice chilled bottle of Prosecco overlooking the hills. We had day trips to Florence and Siena which are lovely and the local town of Anghiari is very pretty. The second half of the week brought a heatwave so we spent most of our time lying in the shade by the huge pool with the occasional dip to cool down. The house is very rural so if you like to be close to the action it's probably not the most suitable but if you're happy to drive there are some wonderful places to visit for a day. Ian was very helpful prior to our stay and he and Marie even moved out a day early to accommodate us. We had a fantastic time, many thanks.

A fabulous family house.

  • 5 of 5

A beautiful rural property with amazing views. We shared the property with another family and we had plenty of space. The children had lots of fun in the large heated pool and the outdoor terrace was great for eating meals together and barbecues. The owners were very helpful and we liked their recommendations for restaurants. A great family holiday home.

Fantastic pool and beautiful views

  • 4 of 5

We found the property very easily from the directions and appreciated how well equipped the rooms were. The solar heating meant the pool was just the right temperature and it was a great size with the fridge in the pool house an added bonus for keeping drinks cool. The views from the terrace were wonderful and the location was very tranquil. There were not many restaurants in the immediate area but we had a particularly good meal at Cristalle and if you drove further afield there were some good restaurants in Anghiari and Cortona. We found the local people exceptionally helpful when trying to buy supplies locally in Lama and Caprese, especially at the butchers in Caprese. Thank you for the use of your beautifully restored holiday home!

Owner's Response: As well as the Cristalle, there are three other excellent restaurants within 5 minutes drive of the house, all highly recommended!

Beautiful villa and pool

  • 5 of 5

Villa Bengodi is a beautifully restored Tuscan villa with an fantastic pool and the most gorgeous views of the countryside. We had a fantastic week staying here. There were 4 children in the group who were kept very happy by spending time in the pool. The views of the countryside were particularly beautiful from the terrace where we had our lunches. Locally, the region is very remote but there were true gems closeby. The closest town of Anghiari is a beautiful medieval walled town and good for evening meals (particulary good pizza) in the main piazza. We also spent a lovely evening in Buca Caprese Michaelangelo which served really good local tuscan cuisine with stunning views. The drive to Florence is about 1 and a half hours.
