Villa in Monte Agudo, Nr. Santo Estevao, Tavira, Eastern Algarve, Portugal - Peaceful Rural Location Yet 1km From The Village Of Santo Estevao And A Short Drive To Tavira

This delightful villa is set in a peaceful fold in the gently rolling hills of the eastern Algarve. Set in around an acre of landscaped grounds with a formal garden and lawn, the property melts into the beautiful surrounding countryside dotted with its carob, olive, almond and fig trees and nearby citrus groves. Whilst externally the architecture is classically traditional, Casa do Ferreiro is a modern and very well appointed villa completed in 2010. The 10m x 5m salt water pool was built in 2011 and surrounding patios and final landscaping added in 2012. The 4 bedrooms are all ensuite, fitted with air conditioning included in the rental prices. The spacious living areas include a generous lounge, adjacent reading area and formal dining area with high airy vaulted ceiling and circular glass table. The traditional Algarvean fishing port of Tavira with its splendid river frontage with fish restaurants, fabulous beaches and excellent fish market are 6 miles distant.

Notes on accommodation: The villa is fully licensed for rental with the Portuguese authorities [License number 3078/AL] and compliant with health and safety requirements. Air conditioning is included in the rental prices, please read our guidance notes for efficient use upon arrival. All windows and doors have integral fly screens and shutters or decorative security ironwork. All bathrooms have mechanical ventilators set with overrun timers linked to the room lights. Hot water is provided by solar panels. The bedroom roof terraces and ground floor bedroom have two rattan cushioned armchairs and table. In addition the master bedroom terrace has 2 cushioned sun loungers. Internet and wifi available. Essentials starter pack provided [can be supplemented at additional cost]. The villa is idyllic for a relaxing, stress-free holiday. Strictly non-smoking. No pets. Car essential. Outside: Large landscaped garden with 10m x 5m swimming pool to the front elevation of the house facing South and West for all day sunshine, surrounding patio and lawn with loungers and umbrellas. The pool is hygienic and non-toxic salt water with walk in steps to shallow end, depth range 1.2m to 1.6m. The pool is cleaned and grass cut approximately weekly and garden and landscaping tended when necessary. Steps lead up from the pool patio to a large shaded pergola and further sun terrace. Accessed directly from the kitchen and pool area is a spacious alfresco dining area with huge stone table and benches comfortably seating 10 with traditional built BBQ with large grille to suit occupancy, a sink and shelving at the cooking area. Attractive unbreakable outdoor tumblers, glasses and crockery are provided for your safety. If you visit in late August/September it is a tradition that our neighbours pick the carob pods from the trees around the perimeter for a cash crop, please accommodate their access. Utility Room: Utility area annexed to the kitchen with washing machine, separate dryer, granite work top, tidy dry, iron and ironing board. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are provided and changed weekly along with cleaning for stays of 10 nights or more. Pool/beach towels are provided. Extra cleaning is available by arrangement and charged locally. Other: Spacious circulation/entertaining area leads from lounge to dining room with lovely airy, vaulted ceiling and circular glass table seating 10+. A picture window and patio door overlooks the garden and pool area with further patio doors and balcony.

Excellent surpassing our high expectations

Our family of 10 including one 18 month old, excluding the bride and groom spent an idyllic week in Oct at Casa do Ferreio for our son's wedding in the Pousada. We were delighted to have met Margaret and Stephen when confirming our booking in April. The experience was amazing with the beautiful villa showing off all it's splendour, complemented by the vibrantly beautifully coloured gardens while suffused with the scent of the orange blossoms - it seemed ideal and perfect for our needs, consequently our expectations were very high indeed. Our week surpassed those expectations and completed our whole wedding experience, as did Tavira with it's sandy beaches, restaurants, nightlife, people and 2 unforgettable BBQs - family meals are my No.1 joy in life.

The grounds were spacious and manicured with really comfortable pool loungers, tables and chairs both in the shade and not. The pool with it's shower was so inviting and with it's complement of recreational equipment was used by all.The non ostentatious air conditioned villa was superb, extremely practical, functional and spacious. The kitchen wanted for nothing with the 2 fridges a godsend. The spacious lounge with the large round glass table facillated another most enjoyable family meal. The hall had a hat stand with an impressive array of hats to fit all shapes and sizes!! The bedrooms with en suites and balconies, very comfortable beds and spacious wardrobes were very adequate indeed ( because we are a very tall family min 6'3" max 6'8 devan beds would be more suitable than framed - giving you the only downside).

With a smiley fairwell from Rachel who was on hand for any assistance, the car packed, having our final swim to cool down, just 3 of us left relaxing for our final moments before leaving with fantastic unforgettable thoughts and memories of our idyllic stay where we wanted for nothing.

Absolutely fantastic

The villa is pure luxury and spotless. Plenty of shady areas if sun gets too hot. Everything you could need for a superb holiday. In a tranquil setting but the bussle not far away in Tavira if required. Taxis are amazing and Rachel the meet and greet lady is great. Supermarket in Tavira sells loads of British food if required. Would certainly stop here again without hesitation. Margaret and Steve the owners are easy to contact and nothing is too much trouble. Just lovely.

Simply, perfection!

Everything from the booking, communication, our greeting at the villa, and our stay, couldn't be faulted. This villa is absolutely beautiful, and is kept in first class condition and wonderfully clean, and greeted with fresh linen and towels, and the villa had everything we needed. The owners have thought of every detail when eating/sitting outside, thinking of the best place to sit for different times of the day as the sun moves around. For us the location was perfect, we went to some lovely restaurants, including Marisqueura Fialho, a wonderful traditional fish restaurant. We also visited the gorgeous waterfall at Santo Estevao. We had a day out at Tavira Island, where we caught the train, its a lovely place with nice shops and bar/restaurants. Everything was near by just a 10-20 minutes drive away. We can't say enough about this beautiful place, would definately like to visit again. Thank you very much for making our holiday one to remember.

Stunning villa in beautiful countryside

This is a fabulous villa in beautiful grounds which was just perfect for our family birthday celebrations. Beautifully furnished and decorated with everything you need to make for a perfect holiday. From initial booking to our final day, the administration and support was fantastic, with good instructions to locate the property. Lots of lovely restaurants and countryside around with wonderful beaches within easy reach. Tavira is very close by and is lovely with lots of choices to eat. The villa was particularly loved by our young granddaughter, who just loved the pool and garden and the sheep who came by to visit regularly. We have already booked for next year!

Perfection in Portugal

The villa and the grounds are fabulous. The location is excellent - close to a lovely town that offers everything you could need in the way of groceries etc. The local market which is held every day offers a super super selection of fresh fish and meats.

Our family is 5 adults and 2 young children, ages 1 and 3 years, and the house was perfect for all of us.Very safe for the children and they loved wandering the many paths on the grounds. The house offered everything you could possibly need with a well equipped kitchen and a fabulous built-in wood bar-b-q.

Margaret ( property owner) was terrific to work with and answered all my questions very promptly.

I would highly recommend this property and hope that we will be able to visit it again in our travels.

Absolute perfection!

This truly is the most beautiful property. Really clean, spacious and modern, and it feels really homely and comfortable too.

We spent most of our time outside lazing in the sunshine by the pool and it was really tranquil. We went in late September and I was so surprised by how hot it was, so the pool was very much needed and was so refreshing.

For meals, we either had BBQs at the villa (lovely selection of food at the local supermarket Pingo Doce) or we went to some fab restaurants in Tavira which is a 10-15 min drive/taxi ride away.

Really easy to get to, it was approx 30 mins drive from Faro airport. We didn't want to leave! I will definitely recommend to friends and relatives and I will certainly be coming back again. Thank you so much!

We live and work in England, our 3 grown-up daughters have now flown the nest and are pursuing their careers.

We have worked hard to achieve our place in the sun.

Since completing the villa in 2010, we have visited as often as possible, work commitments allowing, and have never tired of returning. We hope that our visitors will feel as comfortable and relaxed as we do at our home from home.

Why Mrs Margaret Smith chose Malhão

We eventually got around to visiting the Algarve in the late nineties, having promised ourselves for many years. Our holiday was with another family, two sets of parents and 5 daughters in all in a large villa in Santo Estevao. We were immediately taken with the eastern Algarve, so much so that we returned the following year with the same friends but this time to the West. After many visits over the next few years to different locations with differing groups, we decided to look for our own property. On the last day of one visit to Tavira, we were taken to see a piece of land and we instantly knew that this beautiful and tranquil part of the Algarve was the place for us. After several years of a tortuous planning, approvals and building process we finally have our own slice of paradise.

The eastern Algarve boasts many beautiful beaches. A number can be reached in around 15 minutes by car (6 miles). From the riverfront in Tavira or near the river mouth you can take a short ferry trip to the beautiful sandy beaches on Tavira island with its excellent facilities, water sports and many fish restaurants for lunch or dinner. More island beaches are at Fuseta, Cabanas, Olhao and Barril by causeway/minitrain at Pedras d'el Rei. Beaches at Cacela and Manta Rota are within easy reach.


Faro Airport is a 30 minute drive by car (35km). Seville airport 170km (1 hr 45 minutes).

Coastal train line 8km away in Tavira.

Motorway A22 4km.

Car hire is essential.


Santo Estevao is the nearest village to the Villa taking 2 mins by car or approximately 15 mins on foot (approx 1km).

The town of Tavira is a 15 min drive (around 8km) away.

Spanish border around 30km.

Further Details:

The village of Santo Estevao has a well equipped mini market, catholic church, chemist, a Post office with free internet access and cash point, snack bars and the O Forno restaurant and bar, which is recommended for an inexpensive and relaxing evening serving excellent barbequed food.

Approximately 8km distant is the traditional Algarvean fishing port of Tavira with its splendid river frontage and many fish restaurants serving fresh daily catches; cafe bars, shops and much more on both sides of the river.

There is a large indoor shopping centre with free underground parking just outside the town centre of Tavira (Plaza) with a huge supermarket to stock up with everything you need.

Tavira has its own extensive and fascinating traditional fish, meat and vegetable market that is open 6 days a week [morning for the fish market] where you can pick up all of your BBQ needs.

There is an open-air cinema in Tavira in Summer.

Further afield, across the Spanish border, you can visit the beautiful city of Seville, around 1.5 hours travel on the motorway.

Please contact owners for availability. A 30% deposit is required to secure the booking and final payment is required 8 weeks prior to your date of arrival. Full payment will be required at the time of booking for bookings taken within 10 weeks of arrival.
A £400 or Euro breakage/damage/lost items, keys etc, deposit is required, refundable within 2 weeks of your return provided all is in order.
We strongly advise that our clients take out holiday insurance cover. We cannot offer refunds.

Changeover Day:
Change over usually Saturday in high season, flexible at other times.
Arrival time is 4pm and clients must vacate the property by 10am on the day of departure. If you arrive early, please allow the cleaners to finish before access inside the villa.

Notes on prices:
Pricing is for up to 8 people sharing. The double bed settee in the master bedroom is available for the use of up to a maximum of 2 further guests for which the charge is £75 per person per week. Ideal for 2 young children in their parents' bedroom. First infant [up to 2 years] free, one cot and sheets only provided, additional cots payable locally.
