Lovely upper floor flat in the historic centre + panoramic terrace

Casa apollo is a very bright and sunny apartment (windows in each room, bathroom included), soberly but tastefully decorated. Its living room faces a splendid terrace that enjoys a gorgeous panoramic view both on the roofs of the old island and the sea (left side). It is equipped with all modern comforts (air-conditioning, dishwasher, washing machine, internet wi fi). It is located 3 mn' walk to the lovely daily food market and 4 mn' distance to a swimming access and bathing platform.

Beautiful smart flat

We've just stayed a couple of days in this beautiful flat, although we came in the winter we enjoyed a lot the fantastic terrace with amazing views. Thanks to Stephanie for her warm welcome and useful tips.

On the roof

On arrival Stephanie was there to meet us and took us the short walk to the apartment, spending a little time with us, giving us all the necessary info re the flat and recommendations re restaurants etc., all of which were useful.

The flat was as described, clean and well equipped with comfortable furnishings and neutral, easy on the eye colour scheme. All essentials worked well although the TV wasn't receiving any channels but played DVDs. The roof terrace in particular was great with space to lie out and plenty of room to dine. The views across the rooftops to the sea from the terrace were great and it was nice to be up above the bustle going on below. Space like this in Ortigia is precious as there don't appear to be any gardens anywhere and it's quite built up, in a nice way.

If beaches are your thing Ortigia is probably not for you as it's certainly not a beach holiday type of place, but if you like a glimpse of how people here lived through the centuries and you have any interest in history and architecture then you'll find it fascinating. It's small in area so you can easily walk everywhere and explore the alleyways and narrow streets. There also loads of bars and restaurants to choose from, some are pricey to the point of being a rip off but a little care and common sense should prevent bad experiences. Stephanie's advice on this will prove useful.

If you're planning a trip to Ortigia I recommend this property and if I return I'll rent it again.

Oasis above the bustle

We stayed for a week. We arrived early evening after a 6 hour train journey and liaised by text with the wonderful Stephanie who met us precisely as arranged and led us to the apartment, showed us around and then spent time giving us loads of helpful tips and recommendations of places to enjoy breakfast Italian style, an aperitif or a meal. As there are so many to chose from this was particularly helpful. However the kitchen is well equipped and with fresh fish and vegetables available and very reasonably priced in the market five minutes walk away we cooked in several evenings and made very good use of the wonderful roof terrace.

There are 55 steps up from the street but the reward is to be up above the bustle and open to the welcome email sea breezes - Ortygia is hot even in mid Sept. This meant that we hardly used the air con but when we did it worked fine.

The apartment is as light and airy as the photos suggest, stylish and comfortable. The terrace is a real treat and from lunchtime onwards is shaded.

Ortygia is fascinating and great for market and restaurants but it was good to get out and explore the region. The Archaeological Park with the ancient Greek Theatre on the outskirts of Siracuse is within easy reach. Bus services seemed fine for places they serve. We hired a car for two days very reasonably.

We certainly recommend this property as being ideally placed to enjoy Ortygia and Siracuse with ease and comfort as long as you are averagely mobile. The 55 steps and the need to walk the alleys on the island to see the city mean this is an issue to consider.

Ortigia

A super roof top apartment with a view over the roof tops of Ortigia with the sea beyond. Ideal location situated very close to the Apollo Temple and it's many shops, cafés and trattoria. Located a few minutes walk from the superb local daily market to purchase delicious local produce and of course fresh seafood. We felt very safe wandering the beautiful streets and we ate amazing food from the restaurant recommendations given to us by Stephanie.

Stephanie was very helpful and informative managing our booking both prior to and on arrival. Great apartment, it was easy and well equipped. Love to come back!

Great flat!

We stayed 2 weeks in this lovely flat in October and really enjoyed our stay. The terrace is absolutely goregeous, we had breakfast and dinner on it everyday. The location is very convenient as it is only 2 mn' walk to the daily market and shops. Thanks to the owner for welcoming us late the day of our arrival and for all the helpful recommendations she gave us. We will definetely come back next year!

The daily (very typical) market of Ortigia takes place every morning (except on Sunday) from 7 am to 1pm: you can find fruits, vegetables, cheese, fish, olives...and is only 4 mn' walking distance

Nice "caffè" are 2 mn' walking distance (at the ruins of the Apollo Temple), you can enjoy having breakfast there tasting a "sfoglia alla ricotta" with a capuccino!
