Overview

About the property

House in Carhaix-Plouguer, Chateaulin, Brittany, France - Peaceful Location

The original building dates from the mid 19th century, occupied by local families into the late 1960's. It was brought back into use in 2000, in 2011 it was completely refurbished. It is in a small hamlet of 5 other houses that are a mixture of French and English residents. The road into the Hamlet is a Cul de Sac and there is no through traffic. The cottage is detached and has a good size parking area to the front. The view is over our neighbours well tended gardens and there is a large field behind the Cottage There is a sun trap patio area to the side. Although rural the town of Carhaix Plouguer is only a 15 minute drive. Carhaix has all the amenities you need including a Cinema and Tourist information center. There are walks in the nearby area and the Nantes Brest canal which is close, is ideal for cycling. The Parc Amorique, the National Park in the area with Huelgoat as its center is only a half hour away. Days at the coast will take up to 1.5 hours to drive to each way. It is a very central location to pick and choose what you want to do.

About Jonathan doughty

Hello, I am Jon and I have very long standing connections with France. I am a UK resident now retired after working with disadvantaged people for 25 years.

Jonathan doughty purchased this cottage in 2010

Why Jonathan doughty chose Carhaix-Plouguer

I spent a long time looking for a house in Brittany. I fell in love with the Cottage at Pont Bihan and quickly established contact with my neighbours. I love the fact that the Cottage has a rural feel to it, yet is not isolated and is within easy distance of Carhaix.

Since buying the Cottage I have completed a programme of refurbishment which included a complete rewire, redecoration and a mixture of new and selected older furnishings. The Cottage is welcoming and has a lot of character.

What makes this cottage unique

When I visit the Cottage I always feel at home. I would like to think that my Guests can have a nice place to stay whether to relax the days away or explore the wonderful Breton area.

The Hamlet of Pont Bihan is small and friendly. There are keen gardeners living here and there are woods at the end of the road. The Nantes-Brest canal is close and is a great place to walk or cycle.

If you are looking forward to relaxing the Cottage is in an ideal place.

Guestbook comments from the owner

'The cottage was always a welcoming place to come back to after a busy day'.

Nice cottage in a friendly hamlet

We had a very enjoyable stay, Carhaix Plouguer is a nice small town with everything you need. The cottage is in a good location for walks along the canal or through the woods.

Relaxing and comfortable

  • 4 of 5

A lovely quiet and pretty location and the gite is comfortable and cosy. Everything you need for a restful stay. The canal is a short walk away and there are good shops close by. The coast is about an hour away and there are some pretty lakes ably half an hour or so away. Would recommend for a quiet stay away from all the hustle and bustle.

Perfect and relaxing little home

  • 5 of 5

It was easy and pleasant to book this property, I stayed for two weeks and would have loved to extend my stay even longer as there was a lot to see around and the house felt like home. Of course car is needed to travel around. Many interesting sights and historical monuments in a circle of less than 60 km - visited beautiful churches with valuable stained glass etc, beautiful historic towns and seaside. The cottage is close to Carhaix where one can find supermarkets (pleasant use of WIFI gratuite in L'Eclerc supermarket, gas station round the corner). The hamlet is very quiet and beautiful, lots of flowers, pleasant neighbours. The managers were perfect - although we didn't meet, I knew that help would have been close. The kitchen was well equipped. Sitting area outside, car parking just in front of the cottage. Perfect, I would highly recommend it. Many thanks to the owner!

Owner's Response: I have had guests from Czech Republic, Sweden, Estonia and Great Britain. I do try hard to make sure my guests have a pleasant place to stay and I am lucky to have excellent managers in France. I am always trying to improve the overall experience and I am so pleased that so many guests appreciate the Cottage and the soroundings it is in.

Peaceful Beauty

  • 5 of 5

This little house on the outskirts of Carhaix is a little gem of a place. For my wife and I, it was perfect. Central Brittany location, and very peaceful.

The charming town of Carhaix is 5 minutes drive. From there, you can get all the pastries you could ever want from any one of the many patisseries.

The area is great for cycling and the beautiful Brittany beaches are only about an hours drive. We highly the beaches of Crozon.
