House in Withypool, Nr. Minehead, Somerset, England - Facing South Gardens Leading Down To The River Barle And Overlooking The Moor

Totally refurbished to high standard and situated within a garden of over an acre which has its own river frontage Ormrods faces south & looks out to the moor . The house provides comfortable accommodation for six people. There is adequate off road parking . The house is approached down a no-through lane giving it a tranquill setting within the village. Bi-fold doors lead from the sittng room and dining room onto a south facing balcony with a table and chairs for those long summer evenings .The Two Moors Way passes within 50 metres of the property as well as this footpath there are others leading in all directions out of Withypool besides the moor to explore where you may see some Exmoor ponies Birds of Prey or even Red Deer. The walk from Withypool along the River Barle to Tarr steps(a prehistoric clapper bridge) is very pretty. Exmoor recently gained the first European night sky award for the quality of its clear skies, something you can discover from the balcony of the house.

About the Owner

We have always loved visiting Exmoor , both our children and their wives enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the house and the area. Even the Grandchildren like to do their thing whether it be walking over the moor, or playing in the river at the end of the garden or visiting one of the many beaches in Devon and Cornwall.

There are some lovely eating places and little towns to nose around. everyone is so helpfull

Lovely house in a superb location. Tastefully decorated with great attention to detail. Set in fabulous countryside with spectacular views. We found the balcony perfect for enjoying a glass of wine and the beautiful weather! Great service in the tea rooms and post office ( which seems to stock everything you could possibly need!) Highly recommend the food at The Royal Oak. Plenty in the local area to keep humans and dogs busy. visits to Dunster Castle and Woolacombe a must. A great week.

A week in wonderful Withypool

This is a beautiful property in the delightful Exmoor village of Withypool. The garden is lovely and has the added attraction of the river Bayle flowing through the bottom of the garden and a an area of special scientific interest.We and our dogs enjoyed the fantastic walks and once we arrived there was no need to travel anywhere else there was so much to do. The village shop and pub were excellent and the locals very friendly. It is a popular spot for walkers so the pub and tea rooms do get busy. There is no mobile phone signal so if you need to keep in touch with the outside world you will need to use the public phone box. Thoroughly recommended.

Having enjoyed lots of holidays in the area we decided to buy somewhere to renovate to put our own stamp on somewhere and bought Ormrods after a years search . Although we are in the village of Withypool which forms part of the Golden Triangle of Exmoorbecause we are down a no through lane we are off the beaten track in that we have the views , the proximity to the shop and Pub yet even though we have neighbours we seem to be away from it all .

The nearest beach is at Minehead 16 miles away.

The north Devon coast is full of resorts and fishing villages which are mostly within one hours drive of the house . Woolacombe Beach and Saunton Sands are lovely large beaches for children to play on .

If you like sailing or canoing you can do this at Wimbleball Lake as well as on the sea.Boating on the River Barle at the bottom of the garden provides many hours of fun for children and parents alike.Children love fishing in the river too.

Bristol Airport is circa 75 mile from Ormrods

Although a car is necessary to get to this venue there are lots of outdoor activities to do from Ormrods without needing to use a car

  • Notes on accommodation: We do allow a maximum of two well behaved dogs , please do not allow dogs on the furniture or in the Bedrooms.The utility room has under floor heating so they enjoy the warmth filtering through to their dog beds . Please do not leave your dogs in the house unattended and clear up after them at all times. There is a charge of £15.00 per week per dog We have recently installed a double dog kennel with separate runs for your dogs . Bring your own dog beds, feed bowls etc Outside: The large garden is primarily laid to lawn although there are perennial plants and shrubs which give privacy. The bottom of the garden is left to its natural habitat as it is a site of special scientific interest where rare wild orchids flourish. Two stone walls have recently been constructed to terrace part of the garden one has a stone seat built into it with elevated views over the village,garden,river and Moor. There are garden benches, two sheds one with logs for the wood burner and one with some garden tools and a barbecue. Because it is south facing, the garden is ideal for those sunny days, take your binnoculars and watch the ponies and wild life on the moor.Sit by the river, watch out for fish in the lovely clear water. There is a new double dog kennel for guests to use for their dogs which is also ideal to put them in to dry off when you arrive back from a lovely walk and before they come into the utility room. Please clean this out when you leave the house. Utility Room: There is a belfast sink and storage cupboard in the Utility .Under the stone floor, under floor heating is installed. If you have well a behaved dog, it will enjoy the warmth filtering through to its bed . See details and conditions below. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: We provide the linen but please bring your own towels as we do not provide them. The house will be throughly cleaned on change over days.Please make sure you clean up after your dogs at all times Other: The house is approached down steps to the front door which is on the first floor ,the hallway leads to the principal rooms and to the stairs which lead down to the two ensuite double bedrooms on the ground floor.These have french doors to the garden.
